Brooklyn’s Little Pakistan was flourishing before 9/11. But in the 20 years since, the community has had to survive harassment and surveillance by the FBI and NYPD. Tabish Talib traveled back to Coney Island Avenue to see how government policies have impacted a thriving immigrant neighborhood.

I am a Pakistani American, and the first neighborhood we moved to, when immigrating to U.S. in 1990, was Jewish Neighborhood of Kew Gardens in Queens, NY. I really miss that neighborhood. Brother, I have high regard for Jewish people here in USA, and this is the beauty of America, it is perhaps the only county in the Whole World, which gives us all the liberty and freedom to practice our own religion, so long as as we also abide by and respect the local laws and constitution of the United States. I was about 12 years of age, when moving to U.S. and after moving here, I made friends with Jews from US, as well as Israel and Kazakstan, and other former Russian republics, of course also have a ton of Christians, and many Hindus, Sikhs and Budhists, friends and coworkers. Only in America, this sort of pluralism and intermixing is possible, in such a vast array of human cultures, living side by side. Yes, there are some issues, and again here in U.S. there are also solutions, and truth comes out. Discrimination and hatred also does exists, as it does everywhere else in this World, but again U.S. people try to stop and think, and try to figure out a better way, to tolerate and learn to live with one another, and vast majority of American people are very tolerant and really don't care, who their neighbor are, as long as we all respect the laws of the land, and respect one another.

I admit growing up many were extremely nice and stupid mullahs brainwash us so we seem to have made enemies politically with Israel. Truth is we have sympathy for Palestinians but at end of the day looking at our own bloody history since inception same time as Israel we are actually not great at treating certain minorities in our own country too or other Muslims like the Bangladesh genocide which we have to be honest was a huge mistake. We’ve killed more than them and Muslims too. I hope inshallah we soon form a better relationship with Israel without upsetting the Arabs and try to stay out of the conflicts that don’t really concern us

This video goes into how poc, specifically Muslim and Pakistani communities do not feel safe with enforcement agencies that serve white supremacists agendas. Racism in America is not an "episode," it's a thread that's been woven throughout every part of this country from it's presidency, to it's police, to it's everyday life. I think people don't realize how diverse Pakistan is, and that lends itself to how successful Pakistanis are in integrating into all cultures! From a racial and ethnic perspective, Pakistan has people from across South Asia as well as people whose features are European or Chinese or Central Asian or African, and they have all been living on that land for centuries. And geographically, Pakistan has everything from the world's highest peaks to beautiful beaches, forests, deserts and canyons. Pakistan also has places of historic religious significance to not just Muslims but also Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists as well as of course the Christian influences which came from British colonization. We have so much diversity because we are at the edge of so many distinct civilizations, including India, China, Russia, Persia, Turkic and Arab. Hopefully we are able to achieve greater security and prosperity because Pakistan has so much potential.

I'm sorry about the hurt you have about not feeling supported. Please know that there are people out there who try to support the Black community the best they can. As a former salesperson, my boss told me that I don't need to really help "them" because "they'll" buy anything with the lots of money "they" have (insert horrible stereotype here). Well of course I didn't listen to his snide racist remarks and gave my customer, who was looking for a present for his sister, the best customer service ever. I think he kind of looked surprised, but I make it my mission to give people hope that there are people in the world who care and value communities such as yours and all other oppressed people. God bless ❤ Btw, my heritage is Pakistani

Quite amazing to hear that 75% of pakistani immigration occurred in the 1990s and early 2000s . In the UK mass immigration happened in the 1960s so the community is now on its 3rd and 4th generations . In fact the First Minister of Scotland is of Pakistani heritage , as is the main opposition party leader and the Mayor of London

Salaam Something I have been in search for quite sometime is a connection with somebody that goes beyond vanity. It's very hard to do in this day and age. People can be, somewhat very superficial. On my quest to achieve this I have learnt a lot about human nature. It seems to me that those who are not given traits such as beauty or being wealthy are some of the nicest, kindest and generous people. While the "gorgeous" and well off seem to be the most arrogant and greedy people out there. Of course that's not to say there aren't beautiful kind people out there. I've been in the process of change for a while now and I have made some decent changes but don't you just hate it when people can't let go of your past mistakes. I saw your profile and it intrigued me. I wanted to learn more about who you are and what type of path you would like on in life. Can we talk?
