This series is amazing! Hope you continue on with the rest of the DOS era. DOS grew incredibly over the nineties.

Loved Scorch! I still have the floppy I carried around in my teens to play with friends or in the school library.

Nice one Al. Was just browsing KZbin and realised I hadn’t watched this countdown yet. It was the worth wait, what a great year. I’d never seen that Terminator before - may have to look out for the big box of that. Also great to see Dizzy and the Simpsons in the upper echelons - my young childhood in a nutshell there. Not to mention good old Larry; when I wasn’t quite so young, but still too young!

So, my name's David and loads of lads, including four Scottish brothers would come 'round and Scorched Earth was on a lot

in 1991 was when I was seeing PC games matching what the Amiga had. But I still had my heart set on an Amiga. But just a couple years later, I just had to go with PC, because with Commodore going away, it was obvious that devs won't be staying on the Amiga bandwagon.

yeah that's when the crossroads began. by around 1993 the battle was won

I've loved this whole series! Great videos. My personal top 10 list for 1991: Monkey Island II Chuck Yeager's Air Combat Commander Keen 4-6 Wing Commander II Lemmings Civilization Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe SimAnt Space Quest IV Another World Gods probably would have been on the list, bumping off Another World, but I hesitated to put Gods on my list only because the sound in the Amiga version makes the Amiga the better way to experience that game.

Glad to see so many of the games I liked were on your top 10!

FWIW, the Apple IIGS port of Another World has better sound than the original. The IIGS had a Yamaha sound chip capable of 8 voices - twice as many as the Amiga - and this port takes advantage of that by adding mood appropriate music. When I watched an Apple IIGS play, I was shocked when the music kicked in. What was that?!???!

Great game for sure! I remember playing it on my mates new 386 at the time and being blown away at that lush hi res graphics! I think I still had a Hercules at that time!

@@AlsGeekLab my brothers and I (I'm one of five) would all just crowd around the keyboard on our Compaq portable 286 (with a VGA monitor atop it so we didn't have to play on the monochrome screen) and blow each other's tanks to smithereens! It was always a race for deaths head! You could drop a Compaq portable off a rooftop and it would be fine. Thing was built!

I remember back in 1991 or 1992 I had a game that took place in a futuristic environment where you flew some kind of ship/hovercraft around. You could land it on top of buildings and what not. I have no idea what year it came out and for the life of me I cannot remember the name of it! I wish I could.
@AlsGeekLab4 жыл бұрын
What type of game was it? Adventure? Action?
@BollingHolt4 жыл бұрын
@@AlsGeekLab I don't even remember the whole point of it LOL. It was just a 3D rendered, and crudely at that, futuristic city and you could fly around and land on the buildings and stuff.

@@BollingHolt hmm, I'd really have to put my thinking cap on for that one! Could be a whole bunch of games!

@@AlsGeekLab Yeah. My description wasn't the best, was it? LOL! I DO know that it ran in CGA and on an 8088, because that's what I was running at the time. I miss that old Amstrad. But to be in CGA and run on that processor, the graphics were actually quite impressive. Maybe I'll stumble across it one of these days. By the way, I really enjoy these videos.

Out of curiosity, have you ever heard of D/Generation? That's an incredibly underrated game from 1991, imo.

Yep, if you look at the intro you'll see d/generation . I specifically call it out as a game that could easily make it to the top ten if it was any normal year

The idea was to chart the first decade of the PC, '91 was the last year, so I succeeded in that mission. I wouldn't mind doing one of these things for the rest of the 90s

Good list though that Simpsons game is a beat 'em up rather than a platformer. ;) Some other good PC games from that year: Conquests of the Longbow: The Legend of Robin Hood (PC) D/Generation (PC, 1991/AMI, 1992) Commander Keen IV (PC, 1991) Might and Magic III: Isles of Terra (PC, 1991) Battle Isle (AMI/PC, 1991) Supaplex (PC/AMI/ST, 1991) Eye of the Beholder II: The Legend of Darkmoon (PC, 1991) Gemfire/Royal Blood (PC, 1991/MD, 1992) Pools of Darkness (PC, 1991)
