Random thought here.... If you look at the development that went into the M4A1 barrel profile development one of the things SOCOM found was that M4 profiles were randomly bursting (like this did) and when they tested the metallurgy of the barrels they found that they got so hot (on previous firing days) the actual structure of the metal was altered and became dramatically weaker. I'd assume something similar happened here. There's a ton of data online about this if anyone's interested.

Big reason why there was a profile change to the m4 barrel, added more mass to the reciever end of the barrel allowing for thr gas tube to actually be the failing point it was designed to be.

I think the barrel lost its hardness after being shot the first time then once you heated up with a bunch of rounds going through it, it found a weak spot and failed.
@mikec80866 жыл бұрын
Matthew Williams aren't these rpk barrels? Shouldn't they be designed to take full auto fire and not fail?
@matthewwilliams65966 жыл бұрын
Yes it is a RPK barrel but if you maintain the cyclic rate for a several hundred rounds the barrel will be hot enough to cause the barrel to soften. Thats why the rifling gets destroyed after high rounds count in a short time. The sustained rate of fire is always less rounds fire and increased time between sustained full auto. Even machine guns can experience the same problems. No gun is designed to withstand a sustained cyclic rate of fire
@rifleshooterchannel2086 жыл бұрын
Matthew Williams So much for “legendary” AK durability, huh?
@matthewwilliams65966 жыл бұрын
No. The AK is still very reliable. ARs can fail just like the AK. If you dont abuse your rifle too much, it will last forever. These videos prove the AR and AK both can work very well and both can fail.
@caseyclymore44176 жыл бұрын
Rifle Shooter Channel what are you implying? This is failure at the molecular level. Something has to fail. The “legendary durability” you have sarcastically mentioned is not in reference to it’s ability to survive intense and sustained fire featured here in the video, and in reality a gun would never be fired in this manner, a soldier would never even be carrying that many magazines. AKs have been known to be buried in the sand, left for hours/days and then picked up by guerrilla troops and fired. Common AK malfunctions include bent covers, they have been frequently repaired by simply bending it back. Just look at the mud tests, barrels filled with water, actions closed on all kinds of gunk and it still fires. This barrel is literally dropping from the last test and it is still performing well. I don’t own an AK, but it is certainly more reliable than other weapons.

@jason127x996 жыл бұрын
Wish I could trade you some AR15 for some Veprs. How much does a Vepr go for in Russia as far a the dollar goes?
@Ergilion6 жыл бұрын
Well. A brand new Vepr VPO-126 in 7,62x39 or a VPO-129 in 7,62x54R or a Vepr-308 SOK-92-02 in 308 Winchester are all 610$. A VPO-148 in 5.45 is a little more expensive - 698$ and same is the .223 one. Apply my 5% discount on top of that. This is like the prices from the largest and cheapest store in Russia. But you can cut 5% more by going straight to the factory and buying from there. They literally take you to the factory itself and a workers locker room serves as a showroom for you to check the goods =). They are nice people, much closer to an ordinary customer than the high and mighty Kalashnikov group. Business is not too good for them lately. And with this recent Soccer Wolrd Cup (be it damned for all enetrnity) the government banned all sales of firearms for 2 months. Everybody in the industry got bent over and fucked in the ass by that.

Theory behind failure, swivel clasp that is right before the gas block tube, is right above where the actual piston head would be to absorb the gas and make the gun cycle. Add heat sync of clasp and a potentially higher heat generator of the piston head right above failure point. Maybe?

Consider the following, if there was an actual partial barrel obstruction, the failure mechanism is still more related to ammunition than the rifle itself. Maximum hoop stress at that extreme high operating temperature was obviously exceeded, i.e notice the “fish mouth “ appearance of the rupture. You were extremely fortunate that the barrel failed like it did!

I figure for all intents and purposes my SLR107FR will never wear out with the semi auto shooting I do. Usually in a range session I run 500-600 rounds with several cool downs. I plan on passing it down. I'm kinda scared to shoot my SGL21 as it's not replaceable at a reasonable price. It's a beautiful gun. At this point I've got it oiled down sitting in the case.

Lmao "drudgingly" thats an understatement considering that ammo is becoming more rare by each cycle of the action

soundspark 7N6 (military surplus 5.45x39) is still being produced but the USA put an import ban on that ammo in 2016. Only 5.45 ammo you can buy is the expensive Hornady steel case, and Wolf Surplus lacquered ammo (the same ammo that caused the failure in the AK74 the first time around)

All the heat from the first test probably compromised the heat treatment on the barrel, making it much softer and weaker where it failed.

looks like the barrel started to expand and when it hit the hand guard retainer ring the extra gasses went in the path of lease resistance out the side of the weakened section

Another great video guys! I know it would be expensive and hard to do, but a SCAR meltdown would be awesome if you can pull it off.

So if you think the primer sealant stopped the first test why would you use another ammo with primer sealant? Don't get me wrong I love 7n6, but it does have primer sealant.
