Hi everyone, answering a frequently asked question: it was impossible to use Polish language, because two actors were Hungarians, and two Poles :) As always thank you for watching and feedback
@adseri
@adseri 2 жыл бұрын
That's an understandable explanation. Although, if it was me I'd consider everybody speaking their language and adding subtitles and maybe working the plot so that it works with speakers. The angle of people not understanding each other but still helping could be interesting too - even if characters didn't understand each other they could hold conversation more as a way of talking to themselves, filling the blanks with body language, while we as observers would get a translation to understand the situation better. If they could fill the blanks with latin it would work very well too. If the communication between two people with different languages was necessary, you could have assumed, that one with less dialogue speaks a little Polish, and teach one few words/sentences to say in the scene, maybe with scene cuts while he translates to his companion. Just something to keep in mind for the future to make historical movie more interesting by working around issues that people would have in those situations.

 @Akademia Szermierzy about the dialogue... maybe next time that you do a collab with another group that speaks a different language than yourselves, you could try having the characters speak in their original languages - likely German in this case (since whatever the language they speak it WILL be accented anyways, why not going the extra mile?). Turn a disadvantage into an advantage - that would have made master Lignitzer proud!

@thisdude9363
@thisdude9363 2 жыл бұрын
The problem is sadly two-fold in that doing this kind of choreography requires a high level of skill. It would be very hard to even have actors just memorize a set of moves like they sometimes do for hand to hand fight scenes. Second is that the stage fencers in Hollywood have essentially a union, and they aren't going to as allow their stale ass stage fencing and spinny ballerina stuff be replaced.
@andrewkelly6828
@andrewkelly6828 2 жыл бұрын
@@thisdude9363 I get that there'd be a high level of skill involved, but every time you read about an actor learning a martial art, or to ride a horse, etc., or spending months "learning to swordfight" as many have done for roles, you kinda wonder why they don't just shell out the money for some HEMA classes or to hire an instructor. Must be the union thing for the stage fighters. Shame. This looks so much better!

I love these so much. Your films have gotten better and better. I appreciate so much that these men not only are excellent successors of traditional European martial techniques, but how each film gets better with historically themed stories. Better acting, character development - it's so humbling that these men have to act their lines outside of their mother tongue; that's tricky stuff. I still re-watch the earlier films, those that paint the characters purely through their attire and their behavior, both demeanor and with their sword.

Only critique I can offer is that pacing-wise the midway point of the story(Midway point is traditionally the point where the story takes a sharp turn ) for me that was when the bountyhunters find him , that was more towards 3/4 of the film.

ENG Abolutely genius! Suspenseful from the first scene to the last and much more interesting than what we see in Hollywood productions. I worked on similar film etudes as an actor and I can imagine how much work, time and effort it took to create such a good work - the very scenes of crossing the river must have been a difficult nut to crack. When you watch, you forget that you came here to see a bit of fencing, because the story is simply captivating. I look forward to more in the future and wish you more success! PL Genialne!

Fantastic! FANTASTIC SHORT MOVIE! Great story, great choreography (realistic AND engaging), great music. Hollywood, see this shit? THIS is how you do history-based entertainment! Unrequested historic note: the symbol on the sword (that P and X composition) does not ACTUALLY mean Pax (peace in Latin) , but it's the composition of the Greek letters Chi (X) and Ro (P), and it's to represent the name of CH-R-ist. I am sure you knew this already, but the "Pax" interpretation (which is quite widespread, actually) makes for a much better story! Why am I pointing this out, and being all nitpicky? Because this is an excellent example of "enhancing" history/reality a little bit to make a cool story, as opposed to twisting it completely to make crap products and pushing an agenda (which is what mainstream production do). Once more: Hollywood, netflix, hbo... ya'll see this? THIS IT HOW IT'S DONE!

Not that it matters too much yet I'm willing to wager that the time period depicted above was meant to take place during the last 25 years of the 15th Century (1470s-1490s), yes (the 15th Century in Europe witnessed many sweeping changes in fashion, military technology & in the refinement of various swordfighting styles)?? How do you grab a sharp sword and pull it away with force without cutting yourself seriously? I've seen such moves in historical fencing manuals, but they are obviously meant for someone wearing at least thick gloves. From my personal experience, I keep all my swords as sharp as I fear trying to hold them by the blade in a bare hand, let alone squeezing and making a move... a cut to the bone is what will happen if I'm lucky. If I'm not, a lost finger or fingers.
@notfeedynotlazy
@notfeedynotlazy 2 жыл бұрын
Once again that comment... ;-) Man, the question has been asked so many times (both by legitimate questions and by trolls) that I can even give you a canned answer: Nope, it's done even with bare hand. The edge won't cut even your bare skin if it does NOT move along your skin when you grab it. It's a sword, not a lightsaber. Basically, the grabber is trying to keep the sword unmoving for the second he needs to move it away so he doesn't get cut, and the grabbed should really be trying to get the edge to move (either by twisting, then pulling, or by hitting the hand, then pulling; both techniques shown in fetchbuchen as defences against grabbing!) so he can cut the grabber before he moves the sword away. Victory will go for whoever "makes his homework better", quoting an old master.

@@akademiaszermierzy1105I think the levels between music and voices are fine. To be honest I don't know exactly what it is (I've never done film making) it but sounds like the dialogue is coming from a studio and isn't affected by the environment like at 3:12 where the monk bends down but and his head turns away from the camera while he is speaking, but the sound doesn't get quieter. Editing uses jump cuts, camera shaking, actions are *blink and you'll miss it*, reactions are too long and jump cut back and forth to everyone's reaction. Lots of awkward silence looking at each other any time anything happens.

Nice script, but the directing is kinda meh, I would prefer more static shots instead of hand-held so you can really focus on the actors' movements, hand held shots should always be used cautiously imo, the dialogue scene kinda just repeating from this shot to that shot there's really no creativity in the composition and the editing in this scene needs some work too, I'd say it cuts too fast to let the audience feel the weight of each line and the actors' performance, also the fighting scene is bit disappointing, you guys can make very good and realistic choreography but the editing and hand held kinda ruined it.
