For everyone unclear as why this setup is a great idea just think of all the rack space you save while using just the miko and the mpc. Instead of having a bunch of racks with sounds you have two things and endless sound possibilities. No need for a computer and the sequencer on the Mpc is rock solid!! The Miko and a bunch of vsts plus the solid sequencer on the mpc and that is all you need cause you can sample,mangle,sequence and record. Even add vocals if you want on the spot.

Producer7 Yea, for me the biggest its downfall was the fact that it was PC based and not Mac OS. Most prossesional producers (not all) tend to lean towards the Mac platform. Mac is pretty much the standard when It comes to audio and video. No disrespect to pc users but thats the truth. Just like protools is the standard in recording even Im a Logic pro guy. The Miko and Neko (timberland edition) commanded a heavy price tag upwards of a $5000. Not justifiable for producers to switch from their Mac setups for a $5000 PC. It just wasn't going to happen. Maybe if the price was more reasonable. Something like $2199, those machines wouldve flew off the shelves and they would still be alive today. Now the MPC X is a beast. Its got everything you need and a nice price point and portable. Nice beat fam.
@beeisbad
@beeisbad 6 жыл бұрын
Yo bruh.... I understand you being courteous and sympathetic to the dude for buying that crappy circuitboard w/ a screen call a Miko.... but truth is? Even if the Miko was Mac based, the Miko would have STILL been a dumbass idea that flopped. Period. You and I both know it. Lol
@RodneyD
@RodneyD 6 жыл бұрын
Bee Gee Damn fam...LMAO I was trying to give a little logic behind the complete failure of the Miko. To be honest if the Miko would've had a more competitive price point, I dont see why it wouldnt been sucessful. It was a great idea. It was a complete all-in-one package. The only missing was a Microphone & Monitors. It was ahead of its time. BUT THE PRICE WAS TO EXPENSIVE.

NLS the miko only has 4 gigs of ram. And Akai requires you to have windows 8 for 2.0. I have the Mpc software 1.7 in it but it runs like crap with the memory in it. Pulling the sounds out of it by midi it uses less memory and processing power.

If you have a music theory back ground gear doesn't matter but with that being said Native instruments is the way to go bro. My background in theory makes it even better. Beast Mode...

I am glad someone else feels the same as I do. The last Akai product I bought was the Ren and I was pissed. I HATE IT. Software sucks. The last BEST akai product I bought was the MPC 4k (I have all of them except the 5k). That was the BEAST of them all. The Maschine Mk1/Mk2 and Studio are the best of the best for computer based production. Hardware to me production will have to be MPC 4k or the Roland MV8000 series. My opinion since I am a gear head.
@Official360
@Official360 7 жыл бұрын
I don't know how old you are, but I'm 27. I only got the chance to work on the Roland MV8000 & I loved it. The guy I was producing for at the time bought it so I could work on it. I believe it was the 8800 that had the external screen capabilities & it kinda looked like FL Studio, which I came from at the time. I used FL Studio for over 10 years & was in limbo between FL & Maschine for another 2 because I was trying to get used to the workflow, mainly sequencing, I could only do loops lol! But I haven't looked back for about 3 years. Maschine is only gonna advance. Its still in its infancy, people knock it &but its amazing to me.

It's also not very good by today's standard. I had one and even when it first came out it was apparent that it was just hyped up. Poor quality unusable touch screen, basic semi weighted keyboard and basic DJ controller and basic presonus sound audio interface loaded with mostly free plugin sounds. It really did not start off the best and today you would be better of with a midi keyboard audio interface and a Mac book Pro or if you like hardware get the MPC X or live 2 and you have a tool that really is made for music production rather than a buggy computer set up disguised as a music making device. Most people used them to host plugins and sounds so as not to feel like they had bought into a totally pointless music device like I did.

Quickstrike209 exactly... I was thinking the same thing. Flow makes no sense. The Miko is just a computer with a built in keyboard and audio interface. He wasted money on the MPC. I would install FL studio on the Miko upgrade the RAM... Buy a pad controller and go from there. There is a reason open labs is out of the game now. This setup is redundant, like putting two steering wheels in a car. But this isn't the first time I have seen setups like this and producers missing opportunities to be efficient with an more intergrated setup.

Man I hadn't seen any Miko videos in awhile but the mpc x is a waste of space. You have the Miko which does a bunch by itself don't see why you'd add the akai crap. I own the Timbaland version and still play that bitch like it just came out. For what you're doing with that mpc x you could do with a dr20 for a hell of a lot cheaper and mix it all in the Miko. Cool shit tho bro, hate to see so many stand alone devices used together kinda defeats the purpose..... Btw the Miko looks better hooked to a tv

+Gutta Boy man I'm a mpc head. I've been rocking with them since 99. I'll always sequence on a mpc. When I got the miko it was to host my vsts with my mpc 4000. I'm also a Mac guy and love Logic Pro. So the miko never did much for me as for as cutting vocals. But yea I do know if you like some windows programs for beat production and recording you can do everything in there if you got it upgraded. But like I said I love Macs Logic Pro and sequencing on an mpc. But the miko is cool for hosting sounds

@Marcus K: @YAMS: It's old and dated. Even when it first came out it wasn't great. It's slow. it can't run modern vst's without hiccupping. It's over priced (even when purchasing used). It runs on a free DAW (Reaper). Reaper is GREAT, but why pay a lot of money for hardware that's loaded with a DAW you can get for free and eventually buy at a very low price? Preamps are CRAP. Probably the cheapest preamps PreSonus has ever made. They are the same as the PreSonus TubePre. $100.00 each when the Miko first came out. Sell the Miko, keep the Akai, get a laptop, load it with Reaper (for free), get a midi controller with keys (they don't cost that much) and a descent preamp...….. You will "Kick Yourself" for not doing this sooner.
