Here's where I see the endgame for Akainu going: You know how the World Government has this horrific secret that they're desperate to keep hidden at all costs? The one where the Gorosei had someone killed just to prevent the mere name of the ancient kingdom from being mentioned? By the end of the series, that secret is going to get out, and Akainu is going to go "screw this" and rally the marines against the World Government. He is going to be the symbol of the outraged masses. During Reverie, when a Celestial Dragon tried to kidnap Shirahoshi and Rob Lucci said "A god doesn't need to make sense."? Yeah, I'm pretty confident that if Akainu were there, he would not be saying that.

I still would prefer Akainu to have simply come to the conclusion that all pirates must die through pure (if possibly twisted) logic. A villain with no tragic backstory is almost a novelty at this point and his position isn't entirely illogical; most pirates are awful people and while the government isn't much better, I can see him coming to the conclusion that he can take over and make the world a better place under his rule once the criminal element us eliminated.

@Bleeding Silence Yes, the idea that he just came from a military family is much better than some cliche "Pirates killed my family and raped my dog so now I'll kill them all, raaagh!" story. Whether they have him come from such a background or from a completly neutral civilian background that just philosophiesed his way into the death of pirates at all costs being the best way to go (the logic isn't hard to get to), it would definetly be better than being fueled with rage and misplaced vengeance.

I watched One Piece since the very beginning and it inspired me to become a Marine soldier one day. So i applied myself for the Marines, was accepted and climbed the ranks carefully. My current rank is “Lieutenant-Admiral”. The current Admiral is going to retire soon and needs to nominate 2 potential candidates (Needs to be atleast “Vice-Admiral” or higher) and i can gladly say that the current Admiral chose me and another Lieutenant Admiral (by coincidence a friend of mine i applied together with at the first day). Need to face each other for the Admiral Position. In the One Piece world, you can compare it with the “Fleet Admiral” rank. So please guys wish me luck! I need the One Piece community behind me to succeed! I came to far to lose hope, i worked really hard for this, i have waited 9 years for this opportunity. And i’m currently at my best form! Hmm.... I speak Japanese and I pronounce it as Akai-nu. The reason being is in Japanese there is the noun meaning red "aka,"(赤) and there is the adjective that modifies something to be red "akai"（赤い）. So, if they literally wanted me to say red dog it would be "akai inu"（赤い犬）. Secondly, it is a title, a word, a name, not a phrase. When you say names you just say it all the way through, and you don't usually separate into: "aka-inu" and instead go all the way through and say "akai-nu". [I realize this is just a weird way of saying vowels bleed into each other. Maybe that's simpler to understand.] The easiest example I can think if is iinchou(委員長) meaning class president. The kanji breaks into i-in-chou. But, you just say it all together, iinchou. As you have heard in various anime I'm sure. Hell, even when I say akai-inu [the phrase red dog] it sounds like akaiinu. Like I'm just holding the i-sound as opposed to re-enunciating, even though verbally I am re-enunciating. That was a long way of saying akai-nu is the best pronunciation as far as I know.

I see Akainu’s code as being Lawful Neutral (in DnD terms). Whether the law calls for morally good or evil acts, as long as it’s the law, he is likely to follow through. That’s why I think his issues with the World Government right now deal with the fact that they don’t follow the rules they themselves set. So if we were to see a scenario where he goes against them and he wins, I think he’d just apply the letter of the law fully to the entire world for the first time. IMO whether this is a good thing or a bad thing would depend on 1) what the laws are, 2) who made the laws, and 3) whether established laws can be challenged if they prove to be ineffective or useless.

Akainu kind of reminds me of Javert from Les Miserables. Powerful, fervent and steadfast upholders of the law, with black and white morality split between "criminal" and "law-abiding", and when presented with people or things that contradict these narrow preconceived worldviews they are genuinely incapable of processing it. I wouldn't be surprised if Akainu has a villainous breakdown near the end of the story in regards to his preconceptions of morality being destroyed in some way, similarly to Javert.

Akainu can be an incredible character. He just needs to not get totally wrecked in his final fight, having an expository phase to at least explain why he refuses to differentiate between pirates and end the story with some actual character growth. Have him fight a none protagonist character like a Yonko or a strong member of the World Government instead of getting steamrolled by Garp or Luffy. A character like Akainu leading the Navy post OP would be awesome. Hardcore justice and a focus on power and direct involvement at a ground level but with a human element and nuanced decision making.

She was branded and she was forced to use her DF as entertainment for the celestial dragons [facts in the story]. However, she has an insane level of aversion to men specifically. To the point she thinks every single man she runs into besides the ones that saved her are complete garbage and only deserve death. I'm not sure those mentioned acts alone make up for that. It's of course never confirmed, but it's strongly implied she was a victim of forced sexual acts during her time as a celestial dragon. These are the same people that take countless wives from the lower world [they are 1000% banging these "wives."]. Probably take some of the slaves as a side.

She acts childish as an adult because she spent much of her childhood as a slave. Yeah, the Boa sisters was forced to eat devil fruits and use their powers to entertainment, but they wasn't forced to do sexual acts. But you'll believe what you want to believe and there's nothing I can do to change it because it wasn't confirmed what exactly happend during their time as slaves. Remember that Koala was also a female slave around the same age as them, too. She was in the the same position as them, and she doesn't look like she suffered from sexual abuse. I can say the same for the Boa sisters, but, as aforementioned, I can't stop you from believing your own headcannon. As for the wives, I got no comment about it except to say that not all marriages end in sex.

I'd like to see a moment near the end of the series during a massive multi-sided battle between the Marines, Blackbeard, the Strawhats, and a couple other factions where the Marines are basically trying to stop all the pirates but their main focus is on Blackbeard and they're basically fighting alongside the Strawhats in a "we're aiming at the same guy" way. Then you have a moment where the Strawhats go to do something that leaves them open to Marine attack, but when his men ask him what to do Akainu stands there for a moment and then says to let them go and keep focusing one Blackbeard. Couple that with a few other scenes beforehand of Akainu interacting with/seeing the Strawhats (or other pirates) actually doing good deeds/helping fight the actual bad guy then I could totally believe him pulling a semi-redemption. Not him being a full nice guy but more like him realizing that not everyone with a black flag is the worst thing in the world. Sort of like Carmelita Fox from the Sly Cooper games, she still tries to arrest Sly for stealing but she realizes he's not a bad person.

I would like it if Akainu made it to the end of the story, having some satisfying fights where he goes down while having his viewpoints challenged in ways he can’t answer… maybe in the moment he absolutely loses it when his coping mechanism gets exposed for what it is. We get some snippets of his backstory, maybe from his perspective which warps his worldview. But after the climax, as the story is winding down, we see him having that talk with Aokiji, and he’s been thinking it over while healing from his last battle… he’s kinda just “maybe you were right, Aokiji… maybe… I haven’t been going about this right…” This could be portrayed as anything from the faint beginnings of doubt, to a total collapse of “what have I done” as his beliefs come crashing down, with a bro moment with Aokiji or something. Then just leave it at that. No redemption arc, no playing the nice guy; the closure to his part in the story is just making us aware that he’s come to his senses and is ready to change his ways, without needing to bog us down in how he’ll go about that.

And, I have consulted my Japanese sensei [a native] to ensure it meant class and not single most strongest. I also have artur's translation in case you don't trust some random guy over the internet. The reason this is important is because there can be other devil fruits on that same class. The world's strongest paramecia for example is a good contender to be on that class.

It's a visceral reaction people like Ace and Whitebeard. Honestly, Blackbeard isn't evil, in his mind he was never actually apart of the Whitebeard Pirates, so it's not like he really betrayed anyone. He's basically just Vergo, Vergo was never part of the marines in his mind in the first place, he was always apart of the Doflamingo family. Even if Blackbeard didn't need to kill Thatch for the darkness fruit he was always planning on taking Whitebeard out afterwards for his fruit. Blackbeard was planning on taking down Whitebeard from the beginning, it's an inside job. When the Strawhats were posing as Wano insurgents were they evil? Sure, they deceived people, but they are pirates.

I might be rambling and feel free to ignore me if you wish, but I must get these thoughts out my head somehow. Since my previous comment seems to have disappeared, I will make my statement about Akainu brief. People also don't like Akainu because of the pain he put Luffy through and the fact that he seems to be obsessed with punishing criminals regardless of who gets in the way. He seems like the kind of person who would be willing to regard any innocents involved as acceptable losses. He also tends to assume people are criminals based on their heritage which only causes problems such as people becoming criminals because they think they have no choice. Smoker wants to capture pirates, but not at the expense of innocent people. He also is willing to acknowledge that the world government is flawed and cannot solve everything. Fujitora publicly stated that the government had nothing to do with the liberation of Dressrosa and acknowledged that they were to blame for their problems. He also wants the warlord system gone because he has noticed that it can be abused and is abused to a great degree while the government just sweeps these problems under the rug and takes credit for fixing the issues. There are marines who know that they system is broken in some regards and they want to try to fix it so that it works properly. Unfortunately there are a number of powers in the world government who don't care if the system is fair or works properly as long as it maintains their power base. As for Blackbeard, he might not be evil in his mind but he does act like a pirate in a more stereotypical sense. Everyone see's themselves as the hero's of their own stories. Even if he was never part of the Whitebeard's, him asking Ace to join his crew is rather foolish knowing of how strong the bond between crewmembers on Whitebeard's ship is. He should also know that what he does will be regarded as wrong and as a betrayal by Whitebeard and his crewmembers even if he doesn't think so. He knows that Whitebeard has rules aboard his ship that he insists his crew members follow. Whitebeard's death arguably made the situation in the world worse because his protection of the islands with his flag is gone and his power is in the hands of a man with arguably less self-restraint in using it then Whitebeard. Vergo had to know that his marine colleges wouldn't be happy to know he was feeding information to the Doflamingo family. That is why he decided to hide his activities, even if he doesn't see it as betrayal or morally wrong the marine's would still see him as a criminal just as they see Doflamingo as a criminal despite his title and authority. As for the Strawhats, they intend to take down Kaido. They are perfectly honest about that. Whether people think that they are insurgents or not, it doesn't change the fact that they seek to defeat Kaido which can only be good for Wano as a whole. Many people have noted that they are not like most pirates, most pirates for instance would just take what they could out of this situation and leave without bothering to face Kaido. Only a fool would challenge a Yonko especially without expecting to take their place or gain some other kind of reward. They go out of their way to avoid causing the kind of rampant destruction and death that most pirates are known to commit. These things are why people are confused when they meet them. Pirates are presented as completely evil beings in the one piece world by the government while the government is presented as the embodiment of law, order, justice, and fairness. People know that the government is not what they say they are, but in their minds, the alternative is worse. When they meet someone who challenges that belief then it confuses them. Because Luffy and his crew are honest to a fault about what kind of people they are, people in turn want to trust and support them. That and their personalities help to win people over.

I really do love Akainu's character. He is so interesting because he fights for an absolute justice that the government doesn't live up to his ideals. A talk and fight with Dragon would be great, to have extremists on both sides speak. I don't think he needs to change drastically, but to be a realist about what the World Government does is a good step and knowing his backstory of why he hates pirates so much!

Akainu is the same as any Army higher ups. They would kill couple of innocent people to save thousands, same as Akainu with Ohara incident. If you ran away from a war or just from the Army, they will throw you in a jail, similar to Akainu killed Marine soldier after he tried running away from Marineford(running away from your responsibility you vowed for). He is not evil, he is just like any commander/higher ups in any Army around the world, this is how it works with these kind of people.

Let's list off all of the "bad" things Blackbeard has done so far: He killed his crewmate (who was a pirate), he pillaged the corrupt Drum Kingdom which then allowed the citizens to be liberated from Wapol, he tried to claim Luffy's bounty, he captured Ace, he broke out criminals from Impel Down, and he killed Whitebeard. Idk what he did during the timeskip though. He also engaged in some basic Yonko tyranny where he goes around claiming islands to increase his territory. Sounds to me like the only thing that we know Blackbeard did that could actually be considered "wrong", would have been taking advantage of the corrupt system of the Shichibukai. Makes me wonder how the populous of One Piece would view Blackbeard, especially since the Government silenced the news of him breaking out all the prisoners from Level 6. From a normal person's perspective, Blackbeard would be a hero considering he captured the Second Division Commander Ace, and was the one responsible for killing Whitebeard.

Blackbeard turned on the marines. And the standard fodder that make up his crew are completely lawless in the sense they are the type to go around raping and pillaging outside of Blackbeard's orders [we saw this when the rev commanders were introduced]. That's complete anarchy compared to the rest of the emperors who have some sort of structure. Blackbeard possess the fruit that could destroy the world, and you remember how much people were shitting their pants when Whitebeard had that power. On top of this all the citizens that lived under Whitebeard's protection most likely had much better lives than under Blackbeard's territory. On top of all this he has publicly announced he wants to become Pirate King meaning unlike Whitebeard he's going to be doing a lot of moving around which is not good for the current structure of the world. Becoming Pirate King is dangerous enough to destabilize the entire structure of the world. For the sake of the story it will be portrayed as a good thing, but from their POV there is no guarantee it will be better than what is currently in place. Blackbeard also has the potential to destroy the world as legend has it with his fruit. And he's declared himself to be an enemy of the Marines. From a normal person's perspective he needs to be eradicated just like that nuisance Roger. [Remember, from Ace the normal people didn't like him at all.]

hey tekking something to consider.... remember back in punk hazard, nami chopper and those kids that were being experimented on by ceasar clown to be giants? they went into a hallway where there were a SHITLOAD of prisoners frozen in the wallsyeah uh, there was a scene that was announced by the narrator about prisoners literally in the walls itself, which was ice. the prisoners also look like they were there for a purpose, they certainly did not look scared to be frozen.Aokiji went back to that island to save smoker from doffy..... perhsps to also unfreeze these prisoners?
