I have been having the "Sura Classic" for the lat 3 years. Great health insurance I ever had in my life. Superb care compared to my policy in the US which is lesser and about a quarter of the cost in US. Appointments are very easy to make and very quick. Highly recommended. SURA is the best company in Colombia

With good health and very low cost, good quality healthcare in Colombia, am I not better off self funding ? …take the say $300/month I would normally spend on insurance, and put that into a savings account ? In 10 years that is $36,000 if I stay healthy. That covers pretty much anything that may come up in Colombia, right ? For a couple that is $72,000 in 10 years. What would come up in Colombia that $72,000 would not cover ? We are Vegan, so eat a 100% plant based diet. We go to the gym and do long walks.

That's a good point but also that's assuming nothing happens, for example poor John was just dancing salsa and tore his ACL lol having the insurance there gives a lot of people peace of mind.

@@AKJoel Yes, self funding is not for everyone. We are 56 and 61, and have lived in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and now Guatemala. We have done very well self funding, but nobody knows the future….

You're actually required to show some sort of health insurance for most visas when you go to apply/renew.
