I don't know where this narrative comes from but one of the major problems DBFZ has is its simplistic gameplay hindering competitive play. Every character in fighters fallows a very similar flow chart and style, there is very little variety in the game. Its push someone to the corner, apply pressure with assists, Oki , repeat. DBFZ was probably the biggest disappointment for me ever has a fighting game fan. I came in with the expectations of a Arc System fighting game with DBZ characters which sounds like the greatest thing ever. What i got was a dumbed down Marvel. This narrative that DBFZ some how brought everyone together is a crock of horse shit, DBZF got so much attention because its Dragon Ball it was all marketing.

@Mean Bob game couldn't be further from being dead. There's tons of players online still, finding matches is really easy. It's one of the most played competitive fighting games since its release (alongside street fighter and tekken). The casual xenoverse players left fast but the actual playerbase is steady and faithful to the game. The game still sells new copies everyday as well.
@alexisc.78874 жыл бұрын
@Mean Bob It has between 1.5k and 2k at minimum depending on the time of day. When new characters release it goes up to around 4-5k. Do you even play fighting games? If you did you'd know that these numbers are very high for these types of games, especially arcsys games.

I would like to see it too. BUT... I cannot enjoy fights between clones: Team Goku-SS1, Goku-SS-Blue, Goku-kid, VS Team Naruto-Frog-mode, Naruto-Chakra-mantle, Naruto-hokage. The whole cast could be filled with main charas with transformation alone. SF/MK/Injustice is a close solution to the clones, by selecting their style technique, or skin at the start of the match. Reminding me of some mugen games, that had a character selection in PAGES, page 1 consists of ONLY Kyo Kusanagis, 95 through 2002, his clones, female-kyos, orochi-kyo, kyo-original-concept, etc.

DBFZ is something really special. Previously, i never really played fighting games, save for street fighter occasionally, but my love for DBZ had me pick this up on launch day. Inspired by the characters I wanted to truly get better at fighting games. My training and constant following of the game lead me to the whole scene. I have never seen such passion or skill in any other of the games I've played. I'm hooked and happy to be a part of its community. My favorite "story" in the game was Fenritti's run in the first World Tour Finals. For context, since Kazunoko had won so many of the Dragon Balls, the Last Chance Qualifier ended up being several tournaments in a row. The winner of each tournament would qualify into the top 8, and then everyone else started another tournament for a new chance to qualify. Fenritti managed to qualify in the last LCQ, and then when the actual top 8 started he lost against Kazunoko and went to the losers bracket. But from the losers bracket he made it all the way to grand finals, beating his training partner GO1 (who, iirc, he had never beaten in tournament before), then he RESET the bracket and only then, at the end, lost again against Kazunoko 3-1. It was pretty bittersweet that he lost after making it so far, but it was still an incredibly amazing run. The sheer amount of matches he fought in that day is insane. He played *5* tournaments in a row with all the best players in the world, and he made top 8 in all the LCQs. I have no clue how his brain wasn't completely fried by the time he made it to grand finals.

Budokai 3 & Infinite World on PS2, Shin Budokai 2 on PSP and Burst Limit on PS3 looked (and still look) really awesome. And with today's emulators, they look even better than many modern titles. I suggest you to give 'em a look, because now that they've been (re)discovered as the good fighting games they always have been, a lot of high level competition is ensuing.

What others can learn from arcsys is how they treated this game post launch. After a while, a consensus came that most of the base roster felt samey and each became close to solved. Arcsys took that feedback and made dlc with it in mind. The dlc characters felt wildly different from each other. Base characters were given more abilities to differentiate themselves and make some of them relevant again after falling off. Jank exploits that impacted gameplay were turned into official mechanics later. They could have farted out a dlc pack that were just clones of other characters and called it a day, but they made the effort be do right by the community, which can't be said for many other companies.
