He did an interview with Rick Beato where he somewhat describes how. He spoke about how his tecqnique naturally lends itsself to the rhythm that he keep in songs like this and his cover of Norwegian Wood

Not fair to write and indeed not right. Al Di Meola maybe an artist you cannot understand. He comes from a 'transitional' musical experience. Know your modern musical history. Start with the 'Mahavishnu Orchestra' and then move into 'Shakti'. Then you might begin to come to learn where maestro Al Di is coming from.
