I saw this Rockpalast concert in 1985 on television. I was looking because Prince, the main act was playing after Al Jarreau. After seen Al, the concert of Prince was far less " swinging" ( how much i do like Prince, that night Al Jarreau was the better concert) I record all on cassette tape, since I have no player anymore, I am very pleased to see the whole concert now on KZbin :)
@ulrichrohde40717 жыл бұрын
as far as I vaguely remember Prince wasn´t live on stage, it was a concert-film.
@j_muller7 жыл бұрын
Prince was broadcast live via satellite from Syracuse. There were serious technical problems and most of it was broadcast in mono at the time. Still a brilliant concert too. Widely available on youtube etc. Great 20 min rendition of Purple Rain. Before Al Jarreau was Paul Young who was not bad at all, but not in the league of Al Jarreau nor Prince IMHO. RIP Al Jarreau. I hope you live up to your "I will be there for you" in music heaven.

@frankmeenzen7873 жыл бұрын
@@LisaGemini Yes, he had the competence for communication with the audience that create a situation you have while your talking with good friends. I have seen some of these concerts of him with such moments. We all had the feeling the stage is his living room and we visit him there as good friends. And if you think it over, in real it was that situation! So much positive power! Have you ever seen a concert from Earth, Wind & Fire? After that you are one month on a constant power drive without any drugs! They pump you up with positive power! This is the reason, the "system" don' t let us to normal concerts, not the health reason! They abuse Corona to keep us away from positive power and to destroy it as much as they can.

Gotta love this, sooo eighties, brings back memories of Miami Vice, Miles Davis dressing like Michael Jackson, Yamaha DX7, Roland drum pads etc. Living in the Netherlands being able to watch the Rockpalast series was a real treat. A wide variety of music was featured at the time. Another one of those was the Steve Miller Band. Definitely not Mike Stern on guitar but some other stars like Alex Acuna (Koinonia!) on drums. Personnel listed in comments below.

Does anyone know the story with Charles "Icarus" Johnson? As you can see here, he is one hell of a guitarist and was a first choice for George Duke which should tell you something, I read that he just stopped playing? Why would someone so talented do that unless there was a physical/medical reason? I saw Al in London during his prime with a similar band but Hiram Bullock (RIP) on guitar who is one of the greatest guitarists too, sadly not with us due to bad health. RIP Al, truly one of the great voices, so many great songs and collaborations with Jay Graydon , Tom Canning and Larry Williams.
