@@juliadipaolo6665 I saw it the other day, and it's totally worth it! The singing is amazing and the humor is subtle but refreshing. I also love how it sticks with the original movie. It also implements modern dances and topics (like hip hop combined with bollywood) 9/10 would see again Hope this helps you 👍

@@cabbage8623 I personally do not think it's a good idea. Let me explain: 1. When we watch the original movie and they say some stuff that doesn't make a lot of sense, most of the time, people do not care. It's actually so much of a detail, people who have noticed that probably paused the movie at the right time or were focused on the details at this point. But that's all. It's not a big deal. 2. From "ten years" to "too long" we are passing from an objective relation to time to a subjective one. I think in a movie where time is important, I would be good to have some marks. Plus in a tale the space-time is supposed to be abstract and having a concrete time-line in it would help not being confused. 3. The plotholes are a way for people to theorize, to magnify the story, making more magic or darker. The theories are also little investigations but in a more creative way. Plotholes says "no matter how pro we are, we made some mistakes, and now that we've shared the story with you and that the story is yours, you can make a story out of this mistake"

I agree. I interpreted it as Aladdin looked to genie for help, genie motioned to his cuffs indicating he couldn't help as he had to serve Jafar. Aladdin saw the cuffs and got the idea. Further evidence to support the fact that turning Jafar into a genie was Aladdin's idea is that genie is confused and telling Aladdin 'no' and 'what are you doing'. Then Jafar makes the wish and genie realizes and makes the comment that Jafar's phrazing left a lot of grey area for him to exploit.

But I’ve been in musical theatre training for years and what I’ll say is one has to take careful care of your voice. Based on filming usually taking 12 hour days I’m hesitant to say it’s good to push ones voice so much. I just hope for her health they didn’t push her too hard as that can cause immense vocal issues later on :/ again, it looks amazing! Just hope she didn’t walk away from it with vocal damage

I see a wonderful symbolic meaning also in the scene where Jafar picpockets Aladdin! Think it this way: Jafar uses almost similar tactics to steal the lamp from Aladdin, Aladdin himself has been using for many years as a street thief, but in the beginning of the movie we see two women trying to steal something from Aladdin and of course he easily spots it! "Woah hold on ladies, I think thats mine" Not a clever idea to steal from a thief huh? So, why in the beginning Aladdin cleverly spots a theft, but misses when Jafar steals the lamp? this scene happens immediately after the clash with genie. "I kind of am a prince a now" and he continues to tell genie that he cant wish him free and that he needs to keep on the prince facade. Jafar succeeds stealing the lamp exactly for a reason which Aladdin practically says himself loud and clear! "I am prince Ali now, Aladdin is gone" in that second, he is not a street thief anymore, he is Prince Ali. And prince Ali doesnt know when he's being pickpocketed. Aladdin does. brilliant

@@nikamsnehal15 Yeah I had noticed that Jafar easily sneaks away that hair clip and wondered how Aladdin missed it but then again, the monkey manages to sneak away the lamp from Jafar (twice I think) without him noticing. However, come to think of it, the times we see these master pickpockets have something stolen from them are times they are being promised power or are being distracted by power. Jafar takes the hair clip from Aladdin's pocket whilst promising riches. Jafar takes Aladdin's lamp when Aladdin had just been adamant that he was now prince Ali, not Aladdin. When Jafar loses the lamp, it's often not long after he's got it and feels like he finally has the power over the genie.

Lexa The Snake they kind of draw parallels between Aladdin and Jafar. Both had the same beginnings. Both had the lamp during some part of the movie. But what they finally choose defines them. I think there is a line in arabian nights song, “there is a road that may lead you to good or to greed..”

My points: 1: Mena as Aladdin was gold. He totally pulled off the cleverness and cheekiness of the character, and his dancing during the party when Genie was controlling him was sooo cool 2: One Jump Ahead. By far my favorite song in the movie. I loved the new lines and I loved the choreography for it 3: I'm really upset about Iago. He was my second favorite character in the 1992 version, but now he's just a plain ol' parrot, and he had no sass. made me super upset 4: there are two groups of people. one is 'people who hate will smith as the genie' and the other is 'people who love will smith as the genie'. i am apart of the second group 5: the chains thing near the end. i think Genie saw Aladdin looking at him, and Genie was like "bruh i can't help you, man" which is why he gestured to his chains. but then Aladdin kept talking, and Genie was like "ohhhh i get you" 6: this is just a small comment i had. when jafar sent aladdin to the arctic or whatever, mena's acting in that moment made me think 'shoot this guy is gonna die' just because of that look of pain on his face

I have two things to say(not arguing or tryna start something) 1st there's actually three groups of people 1)people who hate Smith's genie 2) people who love Smith's genie and 3) people who, like me, are in the middle, like Smith but also don't like that he's not Williams. 2nd I didn't like that Iago was a plain old parrot either, but think about it. It would probably be worse if they tried to make him more like the original. I'm glad they made him more realistic, although I do prefer the animated version of him.
@angelenapulis9083
@angelenapulis9083 4 жыл бұрын
@@raspberryjam3724 I appreciated that they made Iago more realistic. I mean, parrots (or macaws) already can talk. They repeat phrases and carry on conversations just the way the live-action Iago did. In an animated film, we can suspend our disbelief with talking animals a lot more than with live-action. And if Iago could talk in the remake, then why not Abu? Why not the horses or camels? It just makes more sense to have Iago be a regular parrot with an evil owner that teaches him to say and do nasty things.

Especially jasmine wanting to be sultan. That makes so much sense, it should have been in the original. Why shouldn’t she be? Why should a foreign prince become sultan? She’s the first born daughter, she should rule after her father. And it added a lot to her fiery nature. I heard a lot of people complaining about that aspect, bringing up “feminism” or whatever. But it didn’t come off as injecting politics for no reason, like so many movies have been doing in recent years. It made a lot of sense and it added to the story.

I loved Will Smith in this movie, and in any movie. All I'm trying to say is that Will knows he can't be Robin, so he made his part as genie his own. Robin would be very proud of Will Smith. I think with the Genie "Breaking the Rules" he isn't actually breaking any rules, he's playing into that gray area that keeps coming up, like when he saves Aladdin from drowning. He even states that he's working in a gray area when he forges Aladdin's signature on the contract to use a wish to save Aladdin's life. Genie still used a wish, he just assumed that it's what Aladdin would have wished for if he could, and he was correct. I think because Genie cares so much about Aladdin, and his panic over Aladdin almost dying, he mistakenly states he broke a rule for him, which he did not do.

Basically, it reminded me of the "Good Samaritan" law. That if a person is unconscious and injured, you can safely assume they _probably_ want to be saved. So yeah, if a person drowns, goes unconscious and stops breathing, you get permission to perform CPR on them out of _good will._

I have to point out that you said the genie forged Aladdin's signature. Thinking back to that moment, after coming out of the cinema, I realised he actually only makes Aladdin write an X. At least in the 17th century and around that area, I know that people who were illiterate (And at the time there would have been a lot) they would just write an X. And I suddenly realised, something I'd strangely never thought about prior to that moment, Aladdin would not know how to read or write.

It was more about breaking his personal rule of never befriending a master, I think, because that held so much meaning to the Genie. He would always have a new master, but he had never made a real friend in one. His personal rule was important to him as it had helped him avoid any betrayal or sadness, and Aladdin caused that to some degree because Genie had broken his rule and allowed Aladdin to make a lasting impact on him.

I really liked this movie. It was a good movie. I do have one critique: The second wish where The Genie saves Aladdin's life made more sense in this one. In the original one, it felt like the second wish was stolen from Aladdin and that the Genie still owed him a second wish, but in this one it actually made sense why it cost him a wish to save his life. [Aladdin Return of Jafar and Aladdin the Animated Series makes up for the owed second wish in the original movie.] In the remake you didn't need anything else, because it all made sense. So I am glad they explained that part better this time. I still think that there should be a Genie rule that states that the Genie has to protect the life of the master and can't allow the master to die before all three wishes are completed. That's just my personal opinion. This was an awesome movie. I really liked it. Jasmine was awesome, Aladdin was good, and Will Smith was Will Smith. I don't like that the Sultan was just kind of there. This movie was very enjoyable.

I believe that there are Pixar-like Easter eggs hinting towards the next official Disney Princess live action remake in each movie. For example, there was Cinderella to begin with, they spoke French which hinted towards Beauty and the Beast. Then during the Be Our Guest segment there was an outline of the Agrabah palace which hinted towards Aladdin. It isn’t confirmed but there was a lot of sun and floating lantern imagery, so imagine if Tangled was the next one to come out? It’s just a theory. Please don’t hate on me!

Just from a singer's/musicians point of view I really enjoyed the way they changed the music to sound more "authentic" to a place like Agrabah. Mena and Will did a sort of decent job and Naomi was absolutely amazing! Ben, from my experience the reason why people "cut off" words in songs and don't let them ring out, is because they want it to sound more spontaneous and like they're speaking the words instead of singing them. It can also be a great way to gloss over the fact that person might not really be able to hit that specific note. Loved the movie and I'm seriously excited to see what future Live remakes will bring! Personally I'm desperately hoping they'll announce a remake of "Hunchback of Notre Dame"!

When designing the genie, they did so with Robin Williams as their inspiration before even getting confirmation that he would do it. That is why it is so hard for Will Smith to 'be the Genie' without 'being Robin Williams'. That being said, Aladdin is my favorite Disney movie, and this one did not disappoint. @@thisismysea I agree that mixing cultures isnt great, but Agrabah is a completely fictional city. The only hint of the location we get is with the song "Arabian nights", which leads us to believe that it's part of the middle east (presumably Iran/Saudi Arabia). Historically speaking, India and parts of the Middle East were once part of the Persian Empire; not to mention they naturally fall into trade paths. It really isn't that far fetched that the two cultures would collide in such a way, plus both cultures share some similarities.
@mayw2140

@@haleynewton3908 I see some of your points, but arabian nights isnt the only indication that its a middle eastern story. @haleynewton3908
@haleynewton3908 5 жыл бұрын
@@mayw2140 I know that the lovie itself is based off of Arab folklore. In all actuality, the story of Aladdin wasn't even included in the original 1001 Nights story and comes from a folktale based along Middle Eastern and Western Indian trade routes. In regards to the actual animated movie, we get very little hints of where the story is set, other than Arabian Nights and the character names. The palace is also heavily inspired by the Taj Mahal. I agree that there was a lot of culture overlooked & erased and that really isnt cool to do. But at the same time, on a historical front, Indian culture would have influenced Arabian culture (and vice versa). Which is why I particularly enjoyed seeing the Bollywood influence in the dancing scenes.
