This might seem a bit unorthodox but from what i see, what made pre-disney star was as successful as it was, is that it actually WENT TF AWAY for a bit between trilogies, giving fans some time to breathe and writers a longer period to fine-tune their concepts, disney is making too much too fast and it is bloody SHOWING
@timothyserabian51035 ай бұрын
I’ve been saying the same thing for a LOOOOONG time with not just Star Wars, but a lot of other shows and franchises like Marvel, DC, Star Trek, and MythBusters (VERY personal example). We see it time and again: a LACK of content makes fans WANT it more. Give some time to make us want it, or take the time to PLAN something special, and then let it go. Cows need resting time before they can be milked again, and so do franchises.
@athatcher93675 ай бұрын
I disagree. A lot of people talk about the idea that people get sick of different series if a lot gets released and while I understand that conceptually, I don’t think any of the series people normally talk about in that vein (Marvel for example) actually had that issue, the issue was not that they were releasing stuff quickly, but that they were trying to release stuff quickly, if that makes sense. Like, if 12 very good final products all come out in the same year you’re not gonna see anywhere near the same amount of complaints as if 4 meh products are released in a year from a studio you know can do way better if they hadn’t rushed it.
@modell10845 ай бұрын
It’s not that there’s too much it’s that they don’t have a vision or a story they are trying to tell. They just keep making shows at random points in the star wars lore. Giving any popular their own show just because people like them but there’s no purpose for it. Kinda like marvel now. No one knows what they are building up in to. There is no build up or payout in any of their movies.
@pubcle5 ай бұрын
I don't really agree. I mean yes it does help to have breaks to some degree, but really Star Wars was still going non-stop from about 1980 to 2014 in relatively smaller projects. There were over 800 Star Wars books released if you count the collections & dictionaries & such. That was a huge part of keeping it alive. The Star Wars The Roleplaying Game was MASSIVELY important to the development & continuation of Star Wars, it can be seen almost as the founding blocks of the EU & while significant portions of it would be retconned more still would be adopted to the screen & used thoroughly as the primary reference material for the early writings. The problem is that these are talentless hacks for whom the height of passion is essentially "oh yaasss Anakin was like so hawt & Padme was slay. Lightsabers are flashy." Most of them would be the same types who would mock nerds when it wasn't popular. They're tourists, at best. These are also people who have no idea how to even begin to budget these shows, much less write them. Some of them outright seem to hate the series & the people who enjoy it. It has nothing to do with too much too fast, Star Wars in 2000 was producing content at a ridiculous rate that in many ways outstrips Disney's productions, even if it was less in TV & more in games & books & comics. It has to do with the utter lack of any quality or care for the franchise or the fans, it is merely a skin suit to parade whatever they want & target to a completely different audience.

I’ve noticed that Disney in general has been struggling with movies recently. Just looking at movies like Wish, Ant Man: Quantumania, and the live-action Little Mermaid, Disney has been struggling to reach that level of success with fans that they did for decades. I think that the problem is that Disney is only doing what they believe will make them more money rather than what is actually best to create. For example with Star Wars, there are TONS of Star Wars fans out there-myself included-so Disney probably saw that and decided that a good way to make more money would be to just make more Star Wars without having-like Lee says-a clear plan. I hope Disney can start listening to the fans again and stop just making sequels and remakes and go back to making movies that are (mostly) original stories like they were able to do with the Disney Princesses. There are *PLENTY* of Fairytales that exist that Disney could probably make a pretty good movie about but they first need to realize that sequels, prequels, and remakes are not doing the best right now. But that’s just my opinion!

As one of those lore obsessed star wars fans I want to speak on the Ki Adi Mundi Problem, but just briefly: The main issue is not really that he is alive during the time of the Acolyte. Yes, it contradicts with the previous canon established in the old EU, but in the new canon his age or year of birth were never specified. Therefore it can be possible for him to be there, even though it does leave a slightly bitter taste in my mouth. The real issue with Mundi's presence in the series is that his role in the cover up of the show's events calls into question his behavior in the Phantom Menace. In Episode 1 he is the one talking about how "the Sith have been extinct for a millennia". It sets the entire plot of the prequals into perspective and is a vital part of the narrative in Episode 1. The Sith, or similar dark side users, not being around for that long is part of the reason the Jedi don't believe Qui-Gon when he reports to the council about his duel with Maul. Due to this Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan have to face Maul alone without any backup at the end of the movie, leading to Qui-Gon's tragic death. But now in the Acolyte, not only has a Sith/Darkside User revealed himself, no, multiple Jedi have died quite evidently at the hands of another force user. That alone should be cause for an outrage or outcry because during this time the Jedi were at their strongest, with basically no enemy or rival. One dead Jedi, let alone a whole platoon of them, should cause an investigation and be something the entire order is aware of. But somehow this gets completely swept under the rug and Ki Adi Mundi does not speak up about this during Episode 1? I am fine with some small inconsistencies. I am fine with some obscure lore not being kept in mind, or outdated lore being updated (like Mundi's age). But decisions which put the entire established canon into question like Osha and Mae being deliberate, immaculate conceptions has, to me at least, less to do with disorganization and more to do with people who either don't know star wars lore or with producers who simply do not care. Still great video and points from your end!

It was gifted to them on a golden platter that would have had fans lining up for miles to see their favorite eu characters on the big screen. They could have made it animated to compensate for the fact the actors are older. They may have been able to re-cast since fans would understand that the original actors are too old for the roles for live action. But no Disney belived they could do it better and drive a message and went in without a plan and are wondering why they are losing money on this. They could have even used Ahsoka, Ezra, and other Disney characters to replace the older actors and still done stuff like heir to the empire and Yuuzhan Vong when needed while introducing eu characters like Ben Skywalker and Jacen Solo.

Maybe just some video game remasters and Clone Wars: Special Editions. But ideally nothing. For years. Internally Lucasfilm would be building a new team up, putting in the work to create a strong plan, before they come back with a big event movie…. Star Wars: The Foundation of Everything that Comes Next (working title]. Ideally it would move say 100+ years into the future, beyond what happened in the sequel trilogy. I agree that Star Wars going away for a while would be a VERY good thing, but I think a sequel entirely separate from what came before might be too far removed from everything the fans actually enjoy for it to be a hit. Both Episode I and Episode VII, movies that EVERYONE was excited for when they came out, were separate enough from the rest of the franchise to stand out, but were also still connected by returning characters from the originals. I’m just saying, while I think that would be a breath of fresh air, it also isn’t a perfect solution. But yes, Star Wars hiatus, PLEASE, give everyone a break! :)

The first point is right. The second one is dumb. Star Wars has always been a political commentary, GL said so himself. How can you look at the prequels and type something like that? Just because the political message is more obvious and clunky than before doesn't mean the message wasn't always there. This is like the Star Trek fans who are shocked when Star Trek is left-leaning.

7:03 to 7:47 To be completely honest, I don't see the problem here. I mean, c'mon Lee, what you're describing is the very same thing Star Wars has been doing since before either of us were born. Between the novels, cartoon shows, comic books and video games they would jump around to just after the credits rolled on EP 6 to 4,000 years before EP 4 to in-between any given movie pair to a hundred years after everything then back to just after EP 6 again. All of this before Disney ever touched the franchise. Even if it is a problem (that I'm still not seeing, Star Wars trained me well there) you can't blame Disney for it. You can blame them for a lot of the other stuff going wrong with the franchise (and should), but not that...

One of the recent lore changes that drives me up a wall is the retconning of Asajj Ventress's death, because it has HUGE implications for what Disney can do going forward. Most of the lore changes simply conflict with the previous Legends timeline, which isn't canon anymore. Since Disney wants to make a new canon anyways, I guess that's fine. It's annoying and disrespectful, but it's not destructive. Asajj Ventress's death being retconned is crazy because she died in a CANON book. So that means that Disney essentially doesn't care about maintaining canon consistency anymore, which is not a good sign for Star Wars. If anything established in canon can now be undone, what's the point in getting invested anymore? I don't trust them to not walk back on decisions they've made, even ones that were well received by the fanbase, and that lack of trust shows a real disconnect between them and their audience.

Another point that could be made is Disney doesn’t (and frankly can’t) care as much as George Lucas did. It was all his creation. It’s much harder (but still possible) to care about a project that you didn’t create

Have you seen any of the stuff from the creators of Mando? All they talk about is how much they care

Lucas literally sold it because he didn't want to do it anymore. After the negativity he got from the prequel trilogy he didn't want to be the only person involved, that's why he trained up filoni and wrote with him. he shopped lucasfilm around to multiple studios and sold it to disney because they were going to allow him to put whoever he wanted in power and thought they had the best storytelling abilities. But the modern economy and streaming wars are absolutely destroying creative companies.

WRONG. The problem is not disorganization. Why wasn't this a problem when a book would come out that followed Cade Skywalker, 200 years after Return of the Jedi, and a few months later, we'd get something set in the Clone Wars? The problem is that the writing is garbage. Disney keeps bringing in writers and directors who focus on identity politics, social issues, etc... and keep priding themselves on not being / hating Star Wars fans. For over a decade, Disney LucasFilm has been on the offensive, saying that fans are the problem. News flash; without fans, there's no franchise.

Is this not, in a sense, disorganization as well; for a company to talk back to its audience THINKING this will increase or protect their profits? Businessmen who don't understand the rule about biting the hand that feeds?
@ZeroFighter3 ай бұрын
@@thefunnyhatter7390 It is not. They're fully organized, going with plans that extend for years to come. They've been planning things out years in advance at this point, and have been placing specific people in charge of specific projects, all neatly ORGANIZED. All of their releases have been ORGANIZED as they see fit. The problem is that it's a circlejerk of hack writers, hack directors, hack producers, and hack actors, all hiring each other because they know one another, and all agree on the same things, none of which involve a love for Star Wars, but most of it involves loving to milk cash cows until the udders dry out, then moving onto the next money-maker with built-in audiences. It's VERY organized, it's just also very malicious and unsustainable.

Star Wars can’t be killed by Disney. Disney can only hurt themselves and their version of Star Wars while Lucas Star Wars and the Legends continuity will always be special to me and many other fans. Plus we still have Andor season 2 to look forward to.

Star Wars fans over 50 need to get over themselves. It's not normal to have fans of a kids story who are 50 years old now. Star Wars was for12 years olds - George Lucas said so when he made the prequels. He definitely didn't think he'd have returning fans from the 70's

lucas hated the legends continuity. he was always open about that. I remember friends in hs talking about how he just approved whatever went across his desk. he didn't care. He's said the only pre-disney cannon was clone wars because that was him and filoni.
