Charlie was really a good brother. Not only let he life him and his son for free in his house for years, even when punishing him he pays for him to go to a good hotel, because ge knows alan can't afford it.

Charlie seduced a lawyer and then dumped her, which made her give Alan's awful ex-wife a ridiculously high alimony. So he couldn't afford to live anywhere except in a dump right next to an airport, and it only was fair that Charlie let Alan live with him after that.

It's not just Alan's meddling that triggered Charlie; remember, in Season 3, Charlie *was* going to marry Mia, a gorgeous dancer who was an actively positive influence on him, but when they went to Vegas to elope, she told Charlie Alan would need to move out. Charlie said no, and they broke it off. *THEN* Alan went and married Kandi, a woman half his age, a quarter his maturity, and one of Charlie's sloppy seconds, and won 500 Grand from a slot machine immediately after. Charlie defended his brother *for nothing.* Cherry on top, Season 4 opens 3 months later, and Alan is homeless *AGAIN* and up to his eyes in debt. So yeah, here, Charlie is still bitter at Alan and reacted much more angrily than he would have in the early seasons.

Besides, it is revealed that Charlie promised to spend time with Jake and then didn't do that, so yeah, I don’t have much sympathy for Charlie here...
