Perfect, this was just what I needed after determining which outlet had the current loss. I'm wondering how long it takes the alarm system to recharge? Thanks.

Hi @SharonBennett-yu6gx, Glad our video was helpful! Most panels usually take about anywhere from 4 to 24 hours to charge their batteries once replaced Depending on the system and level of charge already in the battery.

What happens to the alarm system if you wire it directly to power source without the transformer? Is it possible to wire it without the ac transformer?
@DKAlarmgridSupport2 ай бұрын
Hi, @lex_one-two, Each individual Alarm system comes with a Power supply, (AKA Transformer, Wall adapter, Power Block). This is to Prevent damage from the AC power that comes from your wall outlets that is at a much higher voltage and current than the panel can support. These Power supplies for each individual panel convert the Voltage and Current from your wall outlet and transforms (Why the device is called a Transformer) it into a voltage supported by the Device being powered. DO NOT WIRE DIRECTLY TO A WALL OUTLET.

The transformer electrically isolates the low voltage from the high voltage mains. Please explain the need for the earth wire on the LV side of the power supply thats connected to the alram circuit board. Can my alarm cause my RCD to trip?

A local tech shop in town that provides mainly surveillance systems approached me with a job offer only thing is I'm more if a networking guy, thanks for the video dropped a sub look forward to more resources for study in case I get selected

Wish you Luck on the job, There are various ways to study check out ohms law and normally open and normally closed circuits. Also look for basic of wireing security systems

What type of wire should I use to connect the transformer to the panel? I need to purchase the wire.
@dylanalarm_grid10388 ай бұрын
The majority of installations would use 18-gauge 2-conductor wire when connecting the transformer to the alarm panel.

I have 4 wires red black yellow and green and need to wire it back to the transformer for my alarm can you tell me what color go together it is a class 2 transformer
@joshuagriffin280711 ай бұрын
Most commonly used is red and black. make sure that red and black are used at the panel aswell.

Hi Michael. Wow! I learned a lot today. I had to replace a battery in a panel. I'm not sure if the Batt is bad... but i noticed a wire from the step down transformer to the panel had became disconnected (i think). Neg and pos should be hooked up to panel and transformer... right? Its not meant for anything crazier than that... right? Oh yea there was no adapter such as a barrel connecter just 2 wires screwed to screw posts on panel board per power.

So currently I am using a old LED light cord to "power" my panel. Its 20 AWG and I have it wiring correctly into the panel but it isn't turning on. When the cord is plugged into the outlet the panel doesn't do anything. Is it because I am using an old wire and I need to buy an actual transformer or is it a keypad problem?
@DKAlarmgridSupport2 жыл бұрын
Hey Maddix, Have you checked voltages from the wall where the adapter plugs in, adapter Voltage out and at the panel AC in terminals. As long as the transformer has correct voltage in from the wall outlet and out to the panel. 20 AWG wire within a few feet of the panel should be ok. If the voltages are incorrect, a transformer might be needed.
