Jessica, I'm in Louisville Kentucky. It's amazing but unbelievable that I've got more snow than you have! We were in the big Winter Storm that happened this week here in the Midwest. Louisville got 8.8 inches of snow, then 1/2 inch of ice and sleet! Now the temp is dropping to the single digits and maybe below 0!! On top of that, we're getting another round of snow Friday and Saturday!! This is the most snow in Louisville since 2015! Last 2 years we've had a total of about 3 inches all Winter! I was seeing all your snow last year, crying hoping I'd get to see it here. I've stocked up on alot of stuff so I'm not worried about running to the store on the bad roads. So I'm actually enjoying seeing the snow. I've got 2 kitties and this is the first time the baby has ever seen snow. She sits on the big ledge by our big windows watching the snow come down. It's amazing her. I bought in some snow for both of them to see, and the baby loved playing with it. Lol. I love seeing the animals y'all have. Thank you for loving them and caring for them. Sending love from Louisville Kentucky ❤❤❤

One thing we use in a pinch on our icy driveway in western Quebec is the ash from our wood stove. Just keep it away from where you park and your entryway. We use sand for those areas to keep the soot from being tracked back into the house

Glad you're feeling better. Your cold air and snow has come down to the lower 48. I'm in Eastern Tennessee - it's been in the low 30's for the last few days and we are about to get colder (17 degrees tonight). Flurries all day today and we're bracing for a "huge" winter storm this weekend. I've lived here 8 years and haven't seen a big one yet - maybe this is our year! Take care - love and hugs to you and your family.

I think we got your weather 😊 we are in the middle of the 2025 storm Blair , well i can tell you right now they can take her back anytime. 8 inches of snow and 2 inches of ice on top of that and snow everyday since last Friday. Part 2 coming in this Saturday. Not to mention every tree is hanging down from ice!Strait out of the holidays to trees taking out power lines . Not much relaxing here but very thankful at least we have a home and are warm. My heart aches for the people in tents from Hurricane Helene. Hope you feel better soon, you are still very pale!! Take care and get plenty rest! God Bless ♥️🙏

To save your flowers/elderberry/strawberries cover them with either straw or shavings - this will provide a nice depth of 'warm matter' to help them survive the weird weather. A good layer of mulch acts as a warmth barrier. 🥰

Ohhhhh....leave the old bedding!!! Just turn and fluff it and add shavings to the top. The decomposing bedding is exothermic giving off heat, even if only a little. Also, if you leave the new shavings in a few piles, the girls will spread it out which offers them enrichment and is really fun to see!!!! They are wonderful home makers😂 We weren't getting any eggs either for a month or so. I started sprouting grains from Fred Smith and egg production skyrocketed!!!! We leave the Mill and Feed in the free feeder and feed the sprouts grains once a day.

I am glad you are feeling better. I have been struggling with what felt like a head cold just before Christmas. On the 23rd I decided it was more. Long story short, I tested positive for Covid. I did not get terribly sick, but was extremely exhausted. I live in central Minnesota and our winter has also been strange. December was warm, now in January we have more average temps. However, we have no snow. I am also worried for perennials. On the plus side with sunshine, I have enough energy to take my dog for a walk. Then tea and a rest😊

Life long Alaskan originally from SouthWest Alaska. I remember more than one brown Christmas and glare ice New Years. Also remember wading through snow on Halloween. My Dad, though, remembers 50 below winters, which I have not seen in my lifetime. We do have a photo of huge snow drifts in May also. So, weather is all over the place here in Alaska. Also, I think most of the perennials will be fine. Don't think I've ever lost any to freeze thaw.
