Translates to "Happiness to you, and hope the food turns into blood and fat" basically saying enjoy your food. It comes from the era when people were starving so storing fat was a commodity/luxury.

Albanians make a lot of stew the best 1 is mish jani. I haven't seen you eating in shkodra Aubergine with cheese very traditional only shkodra makes. Went there on August and stayed at the same guesthouse. Worse stay ever and the food is expensive and terrible. I don't know how did you get that delicious food lol 😜. Thethi është parajsë dhe I gjithë veriu gjithashtu!

@E. man it wasn't that bad but we paid 80mije leke for lunch and everything was in small portions and not a lot of options were there. It was not worth it. Plus our room got flooded from the shower inside and they didn't bother to change us to a different room since most of the rooms were empty at that time but instead they came and cleaned the room while we're inside. Definitely gonna visit Theth but never this guesthouse.

@E. man No I totally agree with you on that but what i meant was that didn't see that kind of menu this guy got. Plus I'm Albanian myself, from Berat and for a smaller amount of money can get a delicious lunch full of varieties no just cabbage salad with some cucumber in it. For me it seems like they have a different menu for the foreigners lol 😂

@E. man On that case I cant compare Valbona with Theth at all. When I was there back in 2016, don't remember the name of the guesthouse but had amazing food and experience. Lots of food varieties and so tasty. But then yes you are right when it comes to making a difference between foreigners and locals they do want to rip you off. They still have a lot to learn when it comes to dealing with people so they're on the right track 😉

Balkans scenery is very beautiful and idyllic with lovely little villages and old stone buildings and structures still preserved-- i know what you mean. Croatia and Bosnia have similar sights (at least from my outsider eyes). The influence from the Ottoman empire is still there, so I think that makes for a cool medieval vibe.

@@yespls6260 Stonemasonry is an Albanian tradition, not Turkish. Turks got Albanian people from Albania to Istanbul to work with stone in building streets and houses. Even now in Istanbul you have " Arnavut kaldrem" streets , which means " Albanian stone roads " areas. Theth and the whole Alpine area of Albania remained Catholic to this day. Turks never made it over there......
