Was watching the "Battle of Alberta" and thought about researching Calgary and Edmonton. That's one very beautiful drive and 2 very fascinating cities. Thank you for posting.

Thank you. I’m making this trip tomorrow and although I’ve made it before I have driving anxiety and this has helped me a lot.

maybe one day -- but I haven't driven through Manitoba in a long time. There are some other Manitoba videos online though.

This video is really awesome! By the way, I've visited Calgary back in 2017 (not necessarily for the Calgary Stampede - but me and my dad ended up going there anyways) and my - It was an awesome city! It took me 12 years (yes, 12 years) to make my visit to Calgary a reality. I won't give you any specifics on why (and how) it took me that long, however. Aside from that, I really love the name how they named the highways and so forth (Stoney, Deerfoot and McLeod Trails are my favourites). Aside from that, this video is just plain awesome!!

Alberta Highway 2 is Albert's longest north south highway. Alberta Highway 201 aka Stoney Trail is a beltway around Calgary. Hopefully, in the future, Stoney Trail will be a complete beltway around Calgary. The number reminds me of something: the hundred digit is even and means for Highway 2 and for a beltway and the last two digit means the parent route. The same thing happens to the beltway around Alberta's capital, Edmonton aka Alberta Highway 216 aka Anthony Henday Drive. The beltway numbers remind me of Interstate beltways because the hundred digit is an even number and the last two digits are for parent routes.

I personally tend to find the East side portion of Stoney rather dull and boring. Not much as far as scenery other than a nice view of the downtown skyline around the 16 avenue east Interchange. Just wait till that west portion is completed in a few years. I guarantee it'll be one of the nicest and most scenic freeway's in North America when it's done

Omg these highways is so unique and different of the rest of canada . It looks like you driving in ireland without the mountains
@AsphaltPlanet14 жыл бұрын
Really, eh? I did not find the look of Calgary's freeways to really stand out to me as being unique. The only thing that struck me as being a bit different was the lane markings for entrance lanes joining the freeway.
@Abbubba_094 жыл бұрын
@@AsphaltPlanet1 maybe you are right. But in my perspective from what i saw in this segment of your video, if you remove all the mountains in ireland it would look like this.. the green is stunning with all the green space around

The signage is interesting, with '201 east Stoney Trail', which doesn't say much to people not familiar with Calgary's road naming or numbering. For all they know it could be just an exit to a secondary / suburban road.
@AsphaltPlanet14 жыл бұрын
There are some supplemental signs directing through traffic bound for Lethbridge, Medicine Hat etc. to follow the by-pass. But I agree -- it would be much more useful to sign control cities on the overhead signage vs. signing the name Stoney Trail.
@highway2heaven912 жыл бұрын
Alberta tends not to sign control cities unless you're on the edge of the city. However, they usually do a good job of warning motorists of a potential bypass.

So, if Alberta is the Texas of Canada, where *ARE THE 5-LEVEL STACK INTERCHANGES??* 😡🤬😤 Nice to see a video of Western Canada from you!
@BrandonClaridge4 жыл бұрын
I know that was meant to be sarcastic, but those kind of interchanges are very expensive and are probably not needed in a province that has plenty of open land, even in the cities. I don't think they would handle Canadian winters too well either, but Ontario and Alberta do build some pretty big interchanges as it is. Besides, I know of no other place in the United States nor Canada that uses frontage roads to the same extent Texas does; this is why Texas has five-level stacks in the first place (I live in TX myself). I was about to say North America, but then I realized that many Mexican cities use frontage roads alongside their freeways.
@AsphaltPlanet14 жыл бұрын
lol. Thanks for the comment. The one thing that surprised me about Alberta was just how slow the drivers were. I thought that the Texans of Canada would drive as fast as the Texans of Texas do, but they do not.
@BrandonClaridge4 жыл бұрын
@@AsphaltPlanet1 I guess Canadians in general are just more polite drivers. With respect to the DFW area, I have seen some pretty terrible drivers in Dallas (things like sudden, fast lane changes; it scares me to drive there sometimes), but Fort Worth drivers are better. Still, people drive pretty fast even in Fort Worth; the speed limits on a few of our urban freeways can get as high as 70 mph/113 kph (eg. I-35W south of downtown, I-20 in south Fort Worth), and people routinely exceed that. The tolled express lanes are even faster, with speed limits up to 75 mph/121 kph. I do not know of any other urban area, outside of Texas, that has speed limits that high posted along freeways in a metropolitan area. Either 100 kph in Canada, or 60 mph in the United States (slightly slower than 100 kph), seems like the usual upper limit for urban-area freeways. Some places with older freeways have even slower speed limits; 50 mph/80 kph is typical in New York City, for instance.

Canada has lots of awful drivers - it’s just that generally they seem to live in Ontario.
@brianxyz4 жыл бұрын
@@AsphaltPlanet1 One reason most don't can be seen at 9:40. The pandemic also seems to have brought out people who have never driven before and they are extremely slow. At first it didn't matter because traffic was so much lighter. Now that major roads are much busier they're becoming a safety hazard in my opinion.
