I became a swiftie about 2 weeks after fearless tv (yes, i was VERY late). I finally listened to her entire discography. Reputation was always the most played for me and it became my #1. I kept asking myself why it's so underrated. I agree with you and I think they a lot of it was not understood because the media portrayed it a certain way. (or at least that's the vibe I get) That it was like a revengeful album meanwhile most of it are love songs.

Just in case you guys didn’t know “first string” is an American football term meaning the group of players that play regularly and/or start games for a team. Aka the best players/first choice. I’m figuring since y’all are Australian you might not know.
@eschrad4 жыл бұрын
Yeah... “end game”, “first string” and “A-team” are all sports colloquialisms meaning your “go-to” team/player/play, your best shot, your winning strategy, the one you give the ball to when the game is on the line because they are your sure fire playmaker. So in relationship terminology, she’s saying she wants to be the love of his life, the one he wants to marry, the one he wants to turn to when life is challenging, etc.
@chatsandreacts4 жыл бұрын
yes thank you for this hahah 🥰
@eleriangharad57734 жыл бұрын
First string is also like in an Orchestra, the one who gets melody/ solos etc. It’s SUCH a good lyric because it encompasses so much 😍
@robertthompson72424 жыл бұрын
Also, Ed had a song, A-Team, released in 2011, before he toured with Taylor for the Red Album. And, if you watch old TV shows, the A-Team was a comedy/action show that was very popular in America in the 1980s. End game is a chess term, the final moves before checkmate. And also, refers back to the first song" Baby, let the games begin". 💜

@tinamardt77347 ай бұрын
Apparently it comes from bow and arrow days as the first string used …. The archer anyone? 🤔

Oh! I always loosely thought it was an orchestra reference (without any knowledge of orchestras mind you) I was like "Maybe there's a string instrument that is first in the row of string instalments" lol It's funny the conclusions we jump to when we don't have all the knowledge.
@lmowle3 ай бұрын
Late to the party too. In an orchestra there are usually two sections for violin. First and second string (she actually mentions violin in third track). First string are the better players. They usually have the melody the second has the harmony.

I always thought that when Taylor sings ‘if he drops my name, then I owe him nothing and if he spends my change, then he had it coming’ was referring to the fact that he didn’t credit her for writing This Is What You Came For and he’s spending her money from the sales of the song ☺️
@ruffboiALT9 ай бұрын
oooo potential double meaning on that line then, bc "drops my name" could also mean namedropping her to get something for himself by association with her. I love that wordplay for her, goddamn.
@taralovesdiamondart5 ай бұрын
I always thought the 'drop my name' part was for Tom H. He was talking about Taylor in some interviews, and I heard she didn't like that. and the spends my change was referring to something else. But I can see how it works both ways.

I always thought the line “I bury hatchets/but I keep maps of where I put them” was a nod to her songs- she writes through the pain, the grudges, the joy, the experience of her life and those songs are where she stores those emotions. Look what YOU "made" me do: You've achieved exactly what you've intended to with these videos: so far I've only known Taylor Swift songs in a very shallow way (for i.e.) - liking a song because it has a good pace and is empowering to run to/ hearing it on the radio without actually listening to it (English is a foreign language for me, so I didn't even try to understand all the lyrics in a linguistic way, let alone metaphorically) - your videos have opened this whole new world for me that I would otherwise have missed on! :-) I'm intrigued by everything related to her now and it feels like catching up to be ready for a brand-new, deep and exciting relationship with the artist, her music and artists and music in general. This fascination you've instilled so far also led me to buy Folklore (Meet Me Behind The Mall Version ✨) and Reputation in Vinyl right after watching the corresponding video of you - yay! As someone who has watched Bonnie’s channel for years, I totally see a parallel between Taylor’s rebirth with Reputation and how Bonnie has had to transform her channel since announcing she wasn’t vegan anymore. I admire the strength in Taylor and Bonnie, and any other woman who has had to deal with public backlash, and people who have never met you trying to take you down and say you’re something that your not. I’m so happy to see both Taylor and Bonnie thriving and making the best content they’ve ever made in spite of all the noise. Lesson learned: when someone tries to take you down and ruin you, rise from the ashes stronger, braver, and more true to yourself.

Watching this made me see connections between some of these songs and in her other albums. Like in "Call It What You Want" she said "windows boarded up after the storm" reminded me of "I look through windows of this love even though we boarded them up" in Death by a Thousand Cuts. And then "he built a fire just to keep me warm" reminded me of the cardigan mv opening "scene".And then in NYD the whole "I'll be there if you're the toast of the town babe, or if you strike out and you're crawling home" reminded me of "I'd be right there front row, even if nobody came to your show" from I Forgot that You Existed; like she would've done the same for her other relationships, but it was never reciprocated/appreciated until she found Joe. I love that your videos actually give me a chance to reprocess her music instead of just going into autopilot after learning all the lyrics.

I love all these connections you brought up! Taylor loves a good theme and metaphor. I felt the same thing, watching this helps me see way more similarities between albums. When she says “he built a fire just to keep me warm” in Call it what you want also makes me think of in Peace where she says to him “I’m a fire and I’ll keep your brittle heart warm”. That line (and the whole song) really seems to validate your point that she really wants to be equals in this relationship and reciprocate all he has done for her! 😍 Seems like taylor loves putting “strings” throughout her lyrics in different songs that tie them together! Lol

YES, I LOVE THIS! You girls are genuinely a vibe and I NEED to have a live TS listening party with you. I live in South Brissy so it's possible! Btw, 'First string' is a sporting reference used to describe 'the top player'

Ladies I am loving your reactions and album breakdowns so much!!!! I am a fan of Taylor’s music and I’ve always tried to enjoy the song for what it is. The way you both explain lyrics and the way Taylor writes and sings about experiences and moments in her life is making me appreciate her so much more than I was. Also the way you are using themes and calling back to other songs is making me think about the meaning of the songs and the albums so much more. Enjoying it immensely!

The ONLY way to describe rep is "An album that keeps getting better." Ahhh, so excited you guys love this album as much as I do! I just love that she took this risk and surprised literally everyone with this sound . I also think it's just has some of the most beautiful love songs ever.

ever since i watched your folklore reaction, all i ever wanted was for you to drop this video 😭😭😭 i literally waited desperately bc this is such a legendary, an iconic, a ‘superior’ album like what you always say and to be able to wrap up everything that you know about this album and how it is to be a swiftie, ugh it just made me feel more proud to be one. You just described it all so accurately in a way that people can really understand where we, swifties are all coming from. Thank you for doing this. Thank you for showing the world how SUPERIOR our queen really is. 🤍🤍🤍

This album by far is her best out of all of them. I love the grungy feeling, heavy drums and the mix. Can you please react and provide commentary to all her videos, including the Easter eggs? I'd love to hear your thoughts on all things Taylor Swift. Female here from Australia; loving all your content.

I know Emily & Bonny might not see my comment, but THEIR OUTFITS ARE I C O N I C!!!!!! I'm in my REPUTATION era as I rewind Eras Tour videos every time on social media!!!!!! The Reputation act, outfits (especially hers), the LWYMMD music video reference, vocals, and stage presence sent me to HEAVEN!!!!!!

About a month ago I found yours and Emily’s KZbin video reacting to sour. Since then I have watched your Taylor swift break downs, and even a bunch of your vlogs on your other channel. I wanted to reach out and thank you two for helping me rediscover my love for Taylor Swift. I have been going through a lot of things and have really let my love for things die off. This past year has really brought me back into perspective of life. your break down videos and your friendship has help me learn so much about Taylor and her songs which has brought the spark for Taylor back! I still have a few more albums to catch up on but thank you so much! I can’t wait for Red’s breakdown! Also I took first string from end game to be a sport reference. For example in American football your first string is your best players. The ones who you know will help you win the game.

Please do these types of videos for all of Taylor Swift albums. I’d be curious to see what you guys think abt all her albums. Also I love how your doing these breakdowns and not just reactions. I love your thoughts on lyrics and visuals etc...I can’t wait for you to do more!!

the most interesting thing for when this album come out was that everyone expected one thing and instead get something else...I till to this days still think that the majority of the critics felt too uncomfortable about the backlash between what they predicted (after listening to her first few singles) and the real deal after listening to the full album, that a lot of them even now talk about how dark and aggressive this album is, when in reality it is really not (it is clearly very much a bombastic album but not as aggressive as people thought it would be thanks to her dropping LWYMMD as the first single)...it is most than anything a love album, because for real the majority of the lyrics are about how much in love she was some of those critics i bet haven't yet digested the idea that TS tricked them sooooooo much, making them talk big games and betting that the album would be very much basic and all about obscure bad feelings, when one just need to listen to the lyrics to understand that it doesn't drown in negativity at all edit because now I watched it all: I love how you end up loving very underrated TS songs...and love the energy you put into this breakdowns LOL it makes me too as excited as you are for the all length of the video Love that you give so many infos, and how you explain so well things to make it more easy to get connections even between albums Can't wait for the revisiting video for folklore, there are so many things that need to be unpacked because that album is FULL of double meanings and what's not also I will give you a big YES, and adding a PLEASE, for the Rep tour video! I watched it too many times to count but I would love to get your insight about it SUPERIOR REACTION!!!!!

These videos seriously have open up a whole new world for me in music. I've been really sleeping on music recently - caught up in podcasts and TV shows and books (which all of course have their place), and have been using music as something to put on in the background. Your analysis of Taylor swift's songs and your genuine JOY and EXCITEMENT about the lyrics and moods and melodies are so incredibly inspiring and are bringing music back into my life in a whole new light. THANK YOU!!

I’ve been thinking do you think New Year’s Day could be about the fans? Like truly she wants our midnights, she doesn’t want us to be strangers, hold on to the memories we have all made as they will still be here? Idk was just a thought

You both summed up this album perfectly! This is most definitely her darkest, sexiest, most truthful album she produced at the time. I was not a fan of look what you made me do at first, but then ready for it really hyped me up for the album and it did not disappoint!

one of the things i like about your reactions or overall videos is how long they are. like others react to a whole album with 16 songs in just 20-30 mins and it's just not enough time!! Iike i want to see the reactions for different parts of the lyrics and i'm glad your reactions are long!
