You are right on with supplementation, it is and slowly has shown to be the safe alternative to medicines, which can often have detrimental side effects, I worked at GNC for 2 years while I was in college, as a health sciences major, alcoholism runs in my family, and I found myself drinking and abusing alcohol far too often, Everything you have said makes absolute sense and is spot on, with various experts that have studied these supplement protocols for years, I will mention one expert in particular, Charles Poliquin, an Olympic Strength coach, recommended L-glutamine To his clients, to curb their craving of carbohydrates, during Ketogenic diets, I give you props, as this is only one example of what you have just shared with you're audience!!! Thank you!

I think people start drinking because they feel so freaking Shitty. Because if they felt good naturally, then why would you really drink to start with. I think for sure you need to fix the physical aspect of it and it is a physical problem. They’re trying to tell people with physical problems and that you’re just not spiritual enough to quit and that makes them feel like complete shit on top of it. Our current system isn’t working we need more information like this out there.

I had horrible experience with Kratom. At first it was ok. Then it suddenly caused Central (vs Obstructive) Sleep Apnea for me - where the brain doesn’t send the signal to your body to breath. It was the scariest experience I’ve ever had. I’d be drifting off to sleep then would feel my body just stop breathing!! I’d re-awaken in a panic from it. Long story short, Once I stopped Kratom, then It cleared up - my body would breathe normally during sleep again - thank god! It was terrifying. I’ll NEVER take Kratom again, and would never recommend it to anyone. I think it messes with your brain biochemistry…

It's absolutely true. I spent 10+ months of my life going from recovery house to recovery House trying to stay sober, trying to find a job and feeling like absolute garbage while they fed me food that barely would sustain me. Now I was definitely happy to have a place to stay and a chance to get sober and something to eat. But I struggled to achieve anything, felt physically ill and weak and had extreme anxiety and depression. Eventually I did get sober. But it was grueling hell! Not that it was supposed to ever have been a walk in the park..but I found out later that it could have been a lot better....Fast forward 7 years later. I'm drinking around the clock again and I have to stop or my life is going to implode. The intention is set, but this time it's different because I have a job a home and loving wife. Also, I became an amateur researcher on supplements during my last clean stretch. This time I was armed with scientific information that I put to use and literally my health was so much better in 2 weeks that I had the drive to stay sober. What took me years to achieve health wise the last time I sobered up was reached within a few months. I can't say enough about proper supplementation after addiction. While I don't think you can just take supplements and get sober ( Imo you have to REALLY want it and take a look honestly at how your actions affect you and those around you and strive to change those behaviors) I BELIEVE THAT THEY BRING YOUR HEALTH BACK A LOT FASTER IF DONE CORRECTLY AND GIVE YOU THE BATTLESHIP TO WORK OFF OF TO REBUILD A MEANINGFUL LIFE...

Magnesium glycinate is superior. A month's supply is around $15 depending on brand. Relaxes muscles, calms nerves, helps sleep. Everybody should take magnesium supplements not just recovering addicts. Doctors don't test for magnesium deficiency so nobody is really aware of their magnesium levels. Mostly everyone is either magnesium deficient or magnesium insufficient.

On the spiritual side if there is one.....you could say it’s the chemical demon that comes out in you.....if these supplements work....do it!! Fight for who you are!! A bioavailable form of B1 like benfotiamine or ttfd is definitely helpful. Alcohol depletes B1 considerably and even leads to thiamine deficiency for many alcoholics which if left untreated can be deadly or have other seriously deleterious effects. Even people who drink a couple drinks per day can experience this. It's definitely not as common of knowledge as it should be.

I'm years late to this and I'm just getting a few jumping off points for further research. Just trying to identify all the scientifically vetted methods to help ease my recovery once I finish my taper and cease drinking entirely (specifically ones that aren't also addictive and/or narcotic like benzos) and thought it might be worth correcting a few points made in this video. "50% of the population is deficient in magnesium." This is a pretty large over-estimate. The truth in clinical research and in all the data I could find is that an estimated 10-30% of the population in "developed" countries have low, sub-clinical magnesium levels based on extrapolations from serum magnesium test results. This also does not mean "deficiency" this means lower than recommended. Note the use of the word "sub-clinical" meaning that no negative health effects are present. The margin of error in this estimate is also very high. If you're speaking from the facts, the best you can really say is that it's likely that at least 10% and no more than 30% of people are more vulnerable to magnesium deficiency if their diet were to substantially change. I will also throw out a bit of advice from a personal experience perspective. Magnesium is a mineral that is heavily involved in your heart rhythm so be careful, especially when you're stressed and recovering from something, when taking cardio electrolyte supplements like magnesium and potassium. These things get out of balance and bad things can happen. Just be sure to run your ideas by a healthcare professional of some kind if possible before you change your diet or add/remove supplements from a daily regiment.
