It may be treading too close to Heart of the Cast, but this is the only podcast on the internet so it should be fine. I’d recommend reaching out to Matt Bell, a former card designer for yugioh that has done videos with content creators before (he is contracted to not say some things, but he’ll talk about everything else). Theirs also judges like Josh Bovarnick that would be interesting to talk to, especially with both of your more local-level experiences to discuss how judges manage this game. Interesting thing that you could talk about with a judge is the way reoccurring penalties work, and why it’s so important to call a judge for any infraction so it’s recorded for the future. Thanks for reading my recommendation, I was waiting for this podcast to get some guests on in the yugioh space to spice things up.

The big issue with Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl was that it was a 1:1 remake, whereas every other remake in Pokemon is an updated, modern experience. People want Heart Gold/Soul Silver, not the same exact game again- if I wanted to play Gen 4 exactly as it was, I would go play that!

yeah i am playing shining pearl and i am kinda regretting buying it. the game was fairly easy until i got to cynthia whom apparently has a complete competitive team which curve stomped my entire team. i am more of a casual Pokemon fan , however the fact that most everything from platinum was missing was kind of disappointing as well as things like trade Pokemon were brought back which made no sense. certain tms that were available like earthquake and other powerful moves the original gen 4 games were now only after the elite four. i do agree that the brilliant and shining Pokemon games were just a 1:1 remake.

Also the lack of inclusion of gen 4 evolutions still being locked to the post game. It reverted to the same issues of the original games that people forgot they were mad about all those years ago. The grand underground helped a little bit but didnt solve the issue. I’m not going anywhere near the complains of the art style

1:22:16 Zane Truesdale answered this question on skill vs competency back in GX. The defining line is knowing how to use a card rather than just playing a card. Anyone can play a card but a skilled duelist can maximize the effect of a card by correct timing, targeting, knowing the flow of the duel, making judgement calls, skills like that. I just had a duel against a Tenpai player that couple play Tenpai but couldn’t do anything outside of unga bunga try to FTK battles swing at me, mistimed their battle phase synchro into black rose dragon but it got immediately flipped face down and couldn’t activate because they did it during an active chain, my chain link 1 was an effect to flip all opposing monsters face down and they scooped since they couldn’t nuke my board or deal damage to me.

The Netflix thing is kinda unnecessary. There’s already something called Audio Description that very quickly describes what’s on screen without interrupting dialogue, I believe it’s for blind or impaired vision users. I tried it for Daredevil a bit, it never detracted from the action and sometimes gave a new perspective from how few words it had time to use.

GX is a perfect choice to promote new Rush Duel line and Yubel, Cydra, Evil Hero.. for Modern 😅 The perfect mix of nostalgia and modern since not a lot of us watched all GX episodes too. New Anime might still face criticism if it's not good so this is safe stuff to bring Yugioh to KZbin

problem is the new gx focus main box in japan doesnt do that well compared to the earlier deck build pack, they promote gx because its probably the weakest series in yugioh franchise.

@@r3zaful understandable, but statistic shows otherwise, GX series has an IMDb rating of 6.8, based on approximately 5,500 votes, Zexal 5.4- 1200 votes, Arc-V and Vrains with 6.0 (GX only behind to 5D's and DM), so it's not that weak haha. Focus main box is also selling big with Yubel box with Phantom Nightmare and prosper.

I can't name a large amount of cards since I dont play modern YGO but I play a bunch of HAT format and some Edison format and some of the staples in those formats are a little pricey since they havent been reprinted in a long time or not reprinted in any other set at all. Royal Oppression, Trap Dustshoot, Dimensional Prison, Atlantean Heavy Infantry, Atlantean Marksman, Mermail Abyssgaios, Mermail Abysslinde, Abyss-Sphere & Mermail Abysspike. These are just a few cards that could really use reprints in the TCG.

I didn't dislike Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl as much as others, but it did have some legitimate issues. For example, they included the feature where you can have your Pokemon follow behind you, but for some reason, they had some Pokemon literally remain completely static and just slide along the ground. I remember it happening with serpentine Pokemon like Ekans or Rayquaza. Then there's the fact that they changed how the Shiny Charm, the reward for completing the dex, works. It's supposed to increase your odds of finding a shiny via encounters and breeding, but in BDSP, it only works for breeding for some reason.

SP and BD were bad remakes because they bucked the standard that Game Freak had kinda set with all of the prior remakes matching the visuals and direction of the current gen. SP and BP were a huge step back in what we had come to expect out of Pokémon remakes and were just the ds games essentially upscaled a little bit.

The anime news sounds interesting, the archetype anime going for shorts is OK, was hoping for fully fleshed out shows for each archetype but this is more feasable, & the GX rerelease? considdering that the DM one ( like they said) was just a slapdash upscale & crop job, this will be very mid. Would be cool if they got the voice actors & animators back to do this. But Konami will probably just airbrush out Air Neos & thats it

Although it is expensive right now (because it is in the current meta), Ryzeal is a solid rank 4 turbo deck and simple to pickup and play. It even sort of works with suships ironically. For a non-meta fun xyz deck I'd recommend goblin bikers or purrely. Hope this helps!

@@diamondcarreon8377 Mimighoul is fun, it just unfortunately gets floodgated out of the game by Dominous Impulse's restriction of not being able to activate earth monsters. For non-xyz decks Primite (a new archetype that supports normal monstars) Blue-Eyes is pretty good (after we get the new structure deck this February), HERO is getting a negate (finally) in supreme darkness this month, Ancient Gear is also pretty fun as a going 2nd deck and Centur-ion is also fun in my opinion if you want a good synchro deck.

Concerning the whole issue with Netflix, I have a younger friend I watch anime with and he spends half of this time looking at his phone. Once while watching a show, I stopped the show and started looking for something else. He turned and asked me why I did that. I said he clearly wasn't interested in the anime so we could watch something else instead. He then told me that's how his generation watches shows these day. He said it's more like listening to an audio book. I think today's generation would have a seizure if they couldn't be on their phones 24/7. LOL XD

Some quick thoughts: Remakes >> new IPs (nostalgia, guaranteed enjoyment, and a complete package instead of live service or half games with the rest cut into dlc) New IPs need to compete with all the other entertainment media we have today as well any old one (obviously difficult). Higher expectations on visuals and live features also make it harder for new IP to make an impact. Making story tellers cut a tv/movie story for people half watching is dystopian. I am guilty of scrolling and background watching too, but I don't want the media to cater to me doing that. I want it to be so good I put the phone down. AI populated social media is a terrible idea. Social media already creates disconnects in socialization by avoiding eye contact, body language, and social stigma, but this takes socialization away from people entirely which is a step further.

to be fair, games with branching paths usually feel incomplete because it gets pulled in so many different directions. After all, a set game can only have so much before the price of the game has to go up. I've played two games that do multiple endings really well. That being "Beyond 2 Souls" and "Baldur's Gate 3." BG3 basically has three endings with a bunch of ways to get there, B2S has like fourteen or so different endings and so many ways it could spiral depending on your choices.
