After moving to a smaller studio, I no longer had room for my Tama Artstar IIs, which was heart breaking. Recording with a DrumKat just wasn’t cutting it so I decided to try the DM10 electronic drum kit. Out of the box the setup was not unfamiliar, and the ability for me to change the entire sound of my kit on the fly was an exciting. While it’s NO replacement for my vintage Tamas, I can at least play the Alesis DM10 kit like a drummer and get my tracks played and recorded the way I need them. I wanted to share this with anyone on the fence about adding a good budget electronic kit to their smaller studio setups.

Moving to a smaller Studio Coronawise? I lost my best clients. Keep on doing this nice niche videos. I totally adore them! Greetz from Germany!

Actually this was pre-Corona but the impact is the same, no acoustic drum space. I am very sorry to hear you lost clients. The exact same thing happened to me during the “Great Recession” back in 2008. Wishing you a speedy turnaround, and all the best in the coming year. Thanks for watching and sharing. 👍🏿

@@PowercoatMusic Thank you so much. I'll be fine....focussing on my own music right now...and ... it was time that I did it. Thankfully here in Germany there is some kind of Funds for artists to keep you doing your art. Not much but, hey, never had "much". Maybe I try sometimes a youtube channel without the common bullshit... Like yours!

@@PowercoatMusic Greetings Sir. I had a question. I have the DM10 MKII PRO KIT(2021 version) and I was wondering of there is a way to switch to one kit up or one kit down by hitting a pad? I use different kits on a few songs and I need to be able to do that. I used to have a Yamaha DTXPRESS and it had that feature.

@@SuperPrDude I do'nt believe so. I've not seen a feature like that on the unit.

Great video, dude! I bought an ekit with a DM10 module from a buddy at a great price, but he lost the instructions for it. This got me going pretty quickly.

I had this exact module about 5 years ago. I still regret selling it to this day. I didn't know what I had was so good, until I started looking at e-kits again recently. I don't like any of the new modules compared to old DM10. It really is a great module, still to this day.

Hi, It's November 29, 2023. Do you find the ALESIS DM10 to still be relevant and usable in live performances? I have owned mine since 2009, but have never really learned how to do all that it is capable of. I think I gave up on it when ALESIS stopped supporting it with updates. Any tips on how to import new sounds from an outside source?
@reeread3 жыл бұрын
Yes I also use the DM10 module with mesh heads and piezo triggers. Once you do all the firmware upgrades everything works well and it’s very dynamic. The only thing Alesis could Improve Which they did in the strike pro series Is the hi hat foot controller responses, aside from that it is truly a very musical and dynamic module.

I'm a church sound man and the drummer has asked that I look into some changes. This figures since I'm a guitar player! The issue I have is the unit defaulting back to all levels full after powering on. We've spent a few hours with the kit getting levels and storing the changes but every time it's powered up the levels have defaulted. Where am I going wrong?
@PowercoatMusic3 жыл бұрын
First, you may want to try reinitializing the unit back to factory defaults and try again. Afterwards if you’re following the directions to the letter for “Storing & Copying Kits” in the DM10 manual and the unit is not saving the data, I would suggest replacing the internal battery. This is a common symptom of that issue. If the issue persists after battery replacement, I suggest having an authorized Alesis repair shop service the unit. I hope this information helps.

Ok, I really hate to say this, But I'm totally confused? on how to set evertything up on my Dm10 Module? Understand I replaced my drum kit of what I use to play on a Ludwig Blue Vistalite Octaplus drum kit with a DM 10 kit. Plus I was told that if I wanted to add more drums and Cymbals to the kit? I would either double up on the plug in's or buy another module and plug the midi into the Dm 10 to pick up sounds from the different Module. I did that I brought a DM 4, tryed to find the sounds from that couldn't to well. So I also add a Trigger I O, and added to the mix. I use to play on a big kit at one time, So to get what I wanted, I made a custom kit. I have #15 drum triggers and #13 Cymbal Triggers, with #4 Hi Hat triggers. So I'm looking to pay someone that knows the different systems to help get the sounds i want out of the modules? Any help would be totally great. Thank you all Jeff Jamm.

Hang in there and stay tuned. I used to play TAMA Artstar IIs, and had a specific setup that I miss as well. I'm planning a video soon that will show how my custom kit is setup with the DM10 (extra drums and cymbals), along with a sound demo of the unit. Thanks for watching and stay tuned. 👍🏿

I have the Legacy Mk2 version, but how would it compare to say something like a Yamaha, DTX502? I mean, as far as realism is concerned, do you think my DM10 I still have is getting out of date now? Realistic sounds are what’s important to me, but I have to say it is a very difficult user interface as far as I’m concerned and I’m looking to see if I can find something that’s enough of an upgrade So IS it still relevant in this day and age?!
@PowercoatMusic2 жыл бұрын
From my prespective I would say yes. This unit has some very good samples. All profesionally recorded by sound engineers working with Alesis. The company has always produced good sounding DMs. You have a good unit that should sound good for years to come. 👍🏿

I've got a "new" DM10 MKII Pro kit but this seems to be a better module. More sounds, kits, and inputs. How does this compare to the latest version?
@PowercoatMusic2 жыл бұрын
One of the biggest changes for me is that you can use a thumb drive plugged into the module to load additional voices. The USB MEM button on the module accesses those samples. Legacy DM10 had the ability to load other sets but the only one that was available was discontinued, so your stuck with the factory sounds/voices. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿

Hi...thank for your video...could you explain how to write sequences...? I mean accomp. seq. with base, guitar and keyboard sounds. Thanks in advance...
@PowercoatMusic3 жыл бұрын
1. Press SEQ to enter the main screen of the Sequencer. 2. Press the REC tab (F1). 3. Use the CURSOR UP / DOWN buttons to select settings to edit for that Sequence. Use the VALUE UP / DOWN buttons or the VALUE DIAL to change the settings: • Track: The track of the Sequence over which you will be recording - "DRUMS" or "ACCOMP." • Rec Type: How the performance will be recorded. When "RECORD" is selected, the performance you record will replace the recording on that Track of the Sequence. When "OVERDUB" is selected, the performance you record will be added to the existing recording on that Track of the Sequence. • Quantize: The quantization level of the recording. When on, this function will "snap" all recorded notes to the nearest interval of that measure, which you select. (For instance, if you select "1/8," any notes you record that do not fall on an eighth-note pulse will be shifted automatically to the nearest one.) The range is 1/4 - 1/64 (regular or triplet) and "OFF." • Swing: The amount of swing applied to the recording - 54%, 58%, 62%, or "OFF." 6. Press the module's REC button and record your performance. 7. When you are finished recording, press STOP. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿

hello, thank you for your answer I disassembled the module but I did not see an internal battery. Do you know where she is. Thanks
@PowercoatMusic2 жыл бұрын
I don't have an internal schematic of the unit so I don't know. I would suggest taking it to an authorized Alesis service provider for the repair at this point. If you haven't already, ensure you press the Store button when editing a kit to store it. Also press the Store button when editing Ext Trigger settings to store the Trigger settings, and press the Store button when editing a Sequence to store the sequence. Otherwise, any changes will be lost the next time you power down the module, unless they are stored in this manner.
