I almost got sucked into the whole conspiracy genre back in the early to mid 90's. What got me out of it was an interest I took in philosophy, specifically having to do with logic and critical thinking. Fallacies, such as cherry picking, hasty generalization, and ad hoc reasoning began to jump out at me, and that's what got me out of the whole world of conspiracy theory.

I’m not an Alex Jones fan at all but Dr Grande like many other people fail to realize that events like the moon landing, Sandy Hook and all other places that people haven’t witnessed with their own eyes are scientifically non falsifiable. There is no way to observe those events in real time or question the “conspirators.” That’s the blind spot that Jones operates in and people though they may not know what falsifiability is instinctively feel it. So saying that “No one believes” his claims though he attracts masses of people to his shows does what to those people? It is better to say that he’s mad for believing his own imagination, to attack the mechanism that comes up with these conspiracies than to say that he’s wrong. Because from both perspective the events are non falsifiable.

Litterally EVERY episode commences with the same monologue stating that Dr. Grande is "SPECULATING" about what COULD be occurring in similar situations. It's specifically his own opinion, NOT a comparative examination of MULTIPLE viewpoints or arguments. I believe Dr. Grande as being honest about this & he might have a different conclusion than you, me, or anyone - & that's fine. I have a conspiracy theory that Alex Jones is a CIA disinformation agent. Some of his "conspiracies theories" seem pretty legit if you really look into them, but then he slaps on a bunch of nonsense about lizard people and demons. This discredits any truth that he speaks and lumps it all into a big pile of nonsense. If you think about it, it's the perfect way to hide a real conspiracy that can't otherwise be kept a secret. But if you look back, he was right about a lot of stuff, the biggest and craziest being the whole Epstein thing. The more Alex Jones keeps rattling off about Epstein inbetween rants about the blood sucking, child sacrificing elites, the less people are going to take it seriously.

I worked in legal services with people like the forensic accountant mentioned. Enormous sums of money can be difficult to determine due to the nature of our credit and equity system in higher financial markets. For instance, on paper Jones may control hundreds of millions of dollars worth of merchandise that is already contracted to distributors, warehoused or in transit on container ships or is simply awaiting liquidation to profit. Much of this enterprise is done on lines of extended credit and the banks will carve away their fees, etc. In most cases the only way to determine the cash flow of someone like Jones is to track the filings of the legit companies and agencies he does business with

I think it's important to not disparage conspiracy believers just for believing conspiracy theories, but for believing in highly implausible theories. Real conspiracies can and do occur. This current rise in influence from evangelicals and far-right Christian conservatives has encouraged a marriage between religion and politics. They support a system of government called Christian Dominionism, where Biblical law is implemented in legislative decisions. Naturally, their interpretation of scripture coincidentally always aligns with their personal politics. They also seek to remove any and all non-Christians from government positions. They're very much involved with these "alt-right" conspiracy groups. Any story they concoct to denigrate anyone they deem to be subversive is automatically believed no matter how far fetched and ridiculous the narrative. Keep in mind, I'm not talking about all people of faith, not at all! I'm specifically speaking of religious people with an extreme far-right, self-righteous POV.

I once watched an internet documentary that was completely sympathetic to his point of view. It still made him look like a paranoid idiot. There was a 10 minute scene about him and his plan to go from his hotel to a different nearby hotel where a seminar for some association of world bankers was going on. He planned to go there to protest or something. Any way, the fire alarm went off in his hotel for about 10-15 seconds before it was reset. But, rather than A.) writing it off as a test or B.) seeking to evacuate a potential fire, he opted for C.) He literally spend the next 3-5 minutes running around his hotel room trying to figure out what was the best plan of escape from the black hawk helicopters that were coming to get HIM. Yes, this 10-15 second blast on the fire alarms was ALL ABOUT HIM and the giant "THEY" that was coming for him. If this guy has the ability to get people to listen to him, he is seriously dangerous.

@@notinterested8452 One of my favorite bits is how Alex explained his Rolex on air. Had trouble finding it, but it's pretty funny. Something like, in order to get information on the elites, he has to be able to pass as one? He's a multi-millionaire, don't think he's gonna have trouble passing "as one". Like Tucker Carlsen railing against the elites when he grew up in a fucking castle, decrying vaccines and masks while working for a company which had the most stringent vaccination, mask and testing protocols in corporate media. That's right, while Fox and Friends were talking people into dying of Covid for no reason, at their job, they were all vaccinated, wearing masks, and taking hourly tests at a rate more strict than any other network. It's just hypocrisy, lies, and public endangerment at the same time. The tri-fecta! Re: crony capitalism. When all of the wealth is concentrated into a small number of companies and individuals, crony capitalism and capitalism are basically without difference. it's not an open market when 99% of the population is excluded by birth. America may not have Kings or Dukes or titled lords, but the genetic lottery puts more resources into the hands of people whose parents were successful, essentially punishing children without means who may be as talented and capable as anyone else. Thus, it's a market of the few making decisions for the many, cronies if you will. Anti-trust laws are meaningless. And, with the information coming out at trial, it looks like Alex Jones is quite comfortable with crony capitalism, since he shuffles around the same group of people he has been warned about just to bring in money. He exploits people's fears, their desire for comfort against chaos, and reinforces what they're predisposed to believing anyway. This creates an intellectually stagnant echo chamber where no one really brokers dissent or debate, as debate is not about what's right anymore, but who's right. Which you might realize as, um, not the fucking point of learning. Being wrong is a functional mechanic of educating yourself. When someone can't admit to being wrong and insists on inerrancy, they are functionally incapable of intellectual growth. And Billy, oh Billy, that stick in your ass is going to make you cross eyed. Take your brain force pills, and get your fucking shine box.

A problem with conspiracy theorists is at its heart a difficulty with understanding context. Any two people agreeing to take a course of action in secret is a conspiracy. What conspiracy theorists do is invent dark forces behind everything. Back before science and evidence became the dominant paradigm, people would explain anything they could not understand by reference to the devil, witches, evil spirits and magic. Conspiracy theories are simply the modern incarnation of this magical thinking.

With that said, he couldn't help but add a lot of tabloid sensationalism to all of his stuff. What he said about Sandy Hook was so far out there and in such bad taste, you have to question this guy's judgement. He should have seen this outcome coming from a hundred miles away.

Jones was one of the "internet outlaws" who rose to prominence after the 9/11 attacks. There was a whole constellation of pretty creative people pumping out material for mass consumption. The radio host Art Bell who's highly successful overnight radio show garnered millions of listeners as he explored the unexplained including conspiracy theories, was a pioneer in a type of citizen investigative researcher using the web for any leads. Early on Jones was humorous with clever insights. When he claimed, "crisis actors" were used at Sandy Hook, it really pissed me off and I relegated him as persona non grata. He probably took his millions and put it in crypto or an offshore bank account. Getting him to pay up on all the judgements will require a skilled accountant and attorney.

I love ppl calling Alex Jones a conspiracy theorist. While he explained why he was wrong, he also explained that ppl in high places have staged and lied about so many things in history, he had an attack of psychosis. How can anyone sit there and call him crazy? He got this wrong. I'm not doubting that. But. If you go back to alot of things he's said since the 90s, he was, and is RIGHT about tons of things. You all see him portrait on the mainstream news media and he seems like a nut. And he is for sure, but he's funny to. Top notch comedian. He never told ppl to harass those parents. He told ppl to stop. The parents lawyer wants the jury to "end his business permanently". So the man can't even sell his merchandise to make a living. Its insane. How is he supposed to make a living?? He should be cast out into the streets and banished from human society?? That's not what good followers of Jesus do! He seems like a crack pot. But Alex has been correct about alot. He's not responsible for what other ppl do. He looks so old and run down because of how much ppl come after him. He speaks out about things ppl should know. Everyone is allowed to be wrong once in a while. We're human. I challenge ppl who think he's a looney, to look into other things he has said. Its eye opening. And he's on many ppls podcast and becoming popular again because so many ppl see he was calling stuff out years before it came to light. And I like how he goes after crooked politicians too. I'm sure the ppl who think I'll of him are the same ppl who voted for the current president, think it's ok for men to compete against woman in woman's sports, it's ok for kids to pick genders, and that 100 genders exist. Don't condemn ppl until you study and look into what their saying and what they have said. Don't pick just 1 thing.

They're both naive and grossly suffering from inferiority complexes about their place in reality, hence reality destroyers. The US tendency to polarise is now amplified by internet algorithm, and Jones knows he has a vicious cycle to generate followers and income. You can pathologise him as narcissistic or paranoid, but in fact that's naive. He's just a callous conman.

I think you've confused what Dr Grande's videos are about... the _whole point_ is to discuss the underlying pathology of a conman like Jones. 'Conman' is just a description of his actions... identifying narcissistic & paranoid traits tells you _why_ he does them. The naivety is in assuming that all 'conmen' are the same - they definitely are not.
@Prospro8

@@medea27 Narcissism is a term so devalued that it means nothing. In order to MAKE it mean something, you employ a nice sliding scale checklist. That is comforting for labels but useless in treatment. Jones plays on the paranoia of OTHERS, not his own. If you accept he's a lying conman, then you accept he's not paranoid. He plays also on American misconceptions about 'freedom' easily manipulatable. But here's a thing: is there not also something ever so slightly narcissistic about professional psychologists making KZbin channels about sensationalised crime cases? Y'know, blood and guts, bread & circuses, voyeurism, see the bearded lady? Many's a good professional psychologist would eschew such, for the sake of their own reputation at least. But then, it's America, isn't it?

His fans harassed families, and I remember there was a lady that got arrested for threatening a victim's family. Alex Jones wanted to know what was happening in this world and report his discoveries to anyone interested in his stories he told. This is what a journalist does and some stories are very difficult to believe because of what source the journalist gets his stories from. Alex knew a lot of stories about the FBI, CIA, etc. and learned how they operate so he came to the conclusion that they could not be trusted at all. This lack of trust can cause the mind of a journalist to think of how the FBI or CIA might have been involved in these school shootings because many times, the killer was well known by the teachers, the police and the FBI before the shootings took place. This can lead a journalist like Alex Jones to talk about the possibility it was a set-up by the FBI and not believe the killer acted on his own, that he was given some kind of messaging through social media by the FBI or CIA to commit such heinous acts. We all learned how the FBI and CIA were being used to set up Donald Trump before the election on 2016 and afterwards so Alex Jones was not totally wrong in his suspicion of what these people can and have done in the past.
