I've been playing drums for 20 years now, and instead of criticizing, these people should just watch, there's always something to learn.
@el_wilder88608 жыл бұрын
kyokushinkuma I been drumming since 1999 and agree w/you but there is absolutely nothing to learn from this guy... this should be a what NOT to do if youre a begginner drummer or a veteran drummer. Unless you want to learn how to not diversify your playing and stay stuck in the same mindset and learn how to play the same generic blast beat or thrash beat on every single song he plays then go ahead. But this dudes style/technique is garbage. Im always open to keeping an open mind thats how I still learn and keep it fresh after all these years. But I try to keep begginners away from this guy or drummers like him because some kids will get stuck in the mindset of oh I wanna blast beat all day and the fall into a bad habit of picking up terrible technique and keeping a closed mind to anything else and then they find themselves stuck in a rut and next thing you know they dont know how to advance their skillset.

Example; food critics - they pretty much never cook, they only eat; like how people listen to music and have the right to comment on it without having to play it. How is this such a hard concept for you to understand (and for millions of pther idiotic KZbin commenters)? I don't know. Alex is a great drummer seen them many times and he always delivers and sounds great. I myself have played LIVE SHOWS for 15 years. Before anyone gets technical about it I have played many shows with Drowning pool, Strait line stitch ect played with many professionals for along time. For everyone bitching about his blast beats. He does half time cymbal accents because it sounds better than the lawnmower garbage you guys want to hear from a kit. Lawnmower drumming is appropriate in spots but not an entire song. So guys please give it a break on bitching about why he’s not doing every song 290 bpm or hyper blasts through every song. No one wants to hear that it’s overkill.

can someone tell me some information about this senseless monitoring amplification for the drummers on nearly every stage? aint it stupid to throw all the monitoring through the drums into the microphones again? i mean, yes - the most use in ear monitoring, but i mean monitoring as usual...
@patrickm.43105 жыл бұрын
Depends. I don't really understand drummers who want themselves on the monitors. Most times these are the really hard hitting drummers, who hit cymbals so hard, that they don't hear their kick(s) or toms loud enough anymore without reinforcment. I as a drummer tell these people to play lighter, I as a soundguy keep my mouth shut, because some musicians become easily offended. However you need to hear the rest of the band, don't you? This is the real/original reason for monitoring, but I guess you did already know this. You shouldn't be too worried about the monitors feeding the drum mics. The shells are close-miced and if the sound engineers do a proper gain staging (and gating), the mic won't pick up a lot of the monitor sound. It's a bit different with the overheads. These usually are the mics picking up the most unwanted sound sources. Usually good sound technicians/engineers pay attention to the fact that the drum-fill (as the monitoring system for the drummer is often called) points away from the overheads. Every microphone and every loudspeaker has a pick-up-characteristic. (I am too lazy to look up what it is really called in english. I word-to-word translated it from German.) Most of the microphones and loudspeakers used in life audio are so called cardioid systems, which mostly pick up/put out the sound to their front and a little to their side. If you position overheads and drum fill wisely, the won't interfere very much with each other. However on this video right here it seems the drumfill is located behind Alex and blasting directly in the overhead-mics. Don't know why they did this. Maybe it was because of missing space to the side. Always remember life audio is focused on functioning under given conditions in the first place. If it works you can try to work out a good sound, but life audio is always rougher than post produced audio. You can only achieve a great life sound only on good conditions.

No way those blasts are cutting through the mix during the death metal sections, because he hits so hard on the breakdowns. Help the sound guy out by evening out the dynamics or do a blast on a side snare which is miked more sensitively otherwise it will sound like a soup of bass drums and hihats. Great drummer to watch though, and powerful!
@IslamFalmi7 жыл бұрын
BigWill2k I've always wondered that. I still do my rimshots a lot, but I don't know if that will be good for recording and live shows when the kit is miked cos I do a lot of blast beats too. I would say he is hitting pretty hard on the blasts too.. but yeah, they don't compare to the breakdown and skank beat parts. Do you bother to rimshot when your kit is miked? What is your opinion on this to 'help the soundman out' while still trying to get the best sound possible?
