In my day to day life I don’t focus on, count or obsess over protein. I get a sufficient amount by eating varied and balanced. I made this video to show that it’s very much possible to up the protein with a plant based diet 😊 All recipes are new ones from my app Fivesec Health!

No, normal protein is fine. 46 grams a day for the average woman. Excess protein causes a myriad of health issues that no one wants.
@andreastevanovich Жыл бұрын
You're right about that, but animal protein is not excreted the same way plant protein is, and an average active person following a natural lifestyle (considered spartan by some: not taking supplements, cooking their grains and legumes themselves, consuming only unrefined, unprocessed, sugar-free foods etc.) can hardly overdose on protein, unless they're a real tofu junkie... Perhaps I used the wrong syntagm when I said "high-protein"; not everyone needs the same quantity - it depends on your weight and activity/metabolism. I was referring to the active population with not much spare time for creativity in food combining, for which what is popularly termed high-protein recipes is often "normal protein" recipes. Each such an attempt is welcome. Btw, I don't live in America that has a love affair with protein and promotes it in excess. I get your point, though. :)
@thegreengoddess8850 Жыл бұрын
@@andreastevanovich yes I do live in the US and see North Americans in general eat tons of soy and garbanzo beans in huge doses at every meal. The issue for me is that people don"t use apps like Chronometer that track what you eat because calorie counting has been called bad and intuitive eating is good even though it is based on cravings which is no way to run your life. People need to look at what they are consuming, where they are getting certain nutrients and in what quantities and then make a loose meal plan so that they are getting a well rounded diet. There is a craze for protein and people have zero idea what health issues will be coming in the future. I had an 8 milimeter kidney stone that had to be ultrasounded out. I ate very little chicken at the time, no red meat. lots of tofu and spinach and lots of lemon water. My urologist told me to decrease chicken to almost nothing and stop eating spinach for the most part and up the lemon. People like to say that those with "predisposition to kidney issues" are the only ones affected. They don't understand that diet is what causes those issues and until you have kidney issues, you don't! It is a craze for high protein and the Western world has always consumed too much. Now seems to be worse with the keto craze and doctors are seeing the increased numbers of disease from it.
@andreastevanovich Жыл бұрын
@@thegreengoddess8850, True, genetics is one thing, but "predispositions" are created by lifestyle. Our cells are constantly regenerating, so luckily, on the contrary to what we are being taught in western societies, with a change of diet and some practice (I value chi kung), the body has a chance to recover and even change the gene expression! You mentioned keto: I, too, am surprised that it became such a hype. Our bodies are designed to burn glucose from calories, not fat, and I wouldn't want to have my ketone levels elevated to such an extent. But who am I to judge... everyone's the master of their own body and is free to choose how to treat it. Time will show. As for the calories, I don't count them, but I carefully choose what I eat, avoiding junk as much as I can. Ok, I admit, I do enjoy a bag of plain chips/crisps occasionally, I am aware it contains highly processed oils, but it isn't something I can't handle, as I only select bags without MSG, disodium inosinate or other flavour enhancers, and don't eat it on a daily basis. Besides, being totally rigid on yourself isn't ok either, so I decided crisps will be my deviation... I think we should always listen to our body, it's a good compass. I'm glad you solved the kidney stones issue and that you've discovered what works for you health-wise! Best regards from the Old Continent 🍀
@thegreengoddess8850 Жыл бұрын
@@andreastevanovich I wasn’t saying that you mess to count calories forever, but if you never educate yourself on what nutrients you are getting to little or are deficient in, then you can be adversely harming your body even though you have a vegan diet or think you are eating healthy. Logging food is about so much more than calorie counting and it seems that there is a lack of education in that area of nutrition. For example, if you eat a sweet potato and have sunflower seeds in a salad you are getting many more times the recommended daily allowance for a day. So I try to alternate days that I consume eat thing. If you don’t know what vitamins and minerals are in which food, you have no idea what a toxic body you might be creating. I see some vegans eat 5 sweet potatoes a day or 10 bananas and it hurts me to know why just being vegan isn’t enough when people over indulge in certain nutrients. They all can create disease or disharmony in the body. Glad you are aware and care! Nice talking with you!

I had some of this in the beginning but it has faded away and don't have issues now. I remember that I sometimes added half half so if a recipe had 1 can legumes I used 1/2 can and rest tofu or tempeh because it's easier on the stomach (at least mine back then). But also maybe try the ones that are canned in water with no salt added ☺️

Thanks for another fun and informative video! I've been watching your vids for some time now, but the value of your recipes and tips sky rocketed to me after I've learnt more about current nutrition. It's so important to eat enough protein as well as healthy fats. One tip for people - protein gets digested better if your stomach pH is 1-3 (acidity frequently gets lower than that) so you can consume apple cider vinegar either in capsules (with food only) or liquid diluted in water to increase stomach acid. Cheers!

Tofu is pretty neutral so you can flavor it pretty well, baked tofu use to be my favorite. Some may say it has a beanie taste though. Tempeh has a fermented sour taste, which some people may dislike. Eventually you get use to it though. I really can’t have soy too much (due to health reasons), so I would look for subs. If you can eat wheat I would say seitan (I have hard time finding wo soy, so I make my own). Also there are some new products on the market that is soy free “tofu” usually made with chickpeas or pumpkin seeds (I’ve seen in the states). But the flavors are very different. Best

Hi! Hope you see this comment. I love your recipes and use the app daily :) the lasagna recipe, however, needs a note regarding salt and the uncooked lentils - any added salt (even from the veggie stock) will stop the lentils from cooking properly. Mine came out very tough (raw) and I did a quick google search and adding salt is the issue. Very good second time around though! Edit: I should say I just used canned lentils second time around.

Soaking them overnight and discarding that water before cooking removes or lowers the lectin content, helping absorption. You can add a few drops of lemon juice to neutralize the phytic acid, or add a bit of sodium bicarbonate when cooking legumes, it will soften them too. Soaking has lots of benefits, it also initiates the sprouting process, thus boosting the vitamin-mineral contents in your food. Lectins can cause increased gut permeability and autoimmune diseases in sensitive individuals. Another good measure besides soaking is pressure-cooking. The third one is chewing well - a lot more times than people are used to, until food has been almost liquidized - this helps to minimize gas issues, as digestion starts in the mouth and chewing promotes enzymatic activity (chloride ions from the saliva activate the enzyme ptyalin). This way, you can enjoy most foods and remain on a varied diet :) Good luck!
