The song is about fighting your old self so that you can progress and improve,they used Karate as a metaphor I think , it also talks about not giving up after you've been knocked down, which is why I love Babymetal they promote positive thoughts in a negative world. BTW cute puppy.

"Karate" is very much about having to put in the work to become strong enough so you can face all challenges that life throws your way. Notice how the white "ghosts" are actually the three girls themselves? I interpret that as representing fighting your inner demons to become a better person. Most of Babymetal's songs are actually very positive and empowering.

They have crazy talented musicians behind them. When i saw them live, the bassist shredded like many metal guitarists couldn't do on a guitar. One of the guitarists is Takayoshi Ohmura. Check out his video The Cataclysm (Simply search it on KZbin). That dude is absolutely talented too. All of the musicians were well-known in the japanese music scene and they were put together to be their band and it's awesome.

It's nice that you gave Babymetal another chance since I don't think that Gimme Chocolate really shows how awesome they are! (It's still a nice song though) The song Karate pretty much is about to fight your inner demons / problems and get over it btw. Babymetal splits the metal fanbase since some just really love them but of course a lot of people hate them because they are no "real metal". In fact though, if you listen to all of their songs, you'll see how much the person behind Babymetal (it was kind of one guy who had the idea for Babymetal) loves metal since they're doing so many of the subgenres of metal in their songs. And for me as a guy who listens to metal for years now Babymetal is just a breathe of fresh air cause of their mix of metal and pop. You should definitely check out some live videos from them though since this is where they really shine. They have an amazing live band backing them up and just to see three japanese girls dance to metal is so weird but awesome at the same time! Also the vocalist just nails it live, they are all super talented! To be honest, they are way better live than a lot of the "real" metal bands to say it like the haters. Also I think you should really check out other japanese Bands! Most "Maximum The Hormone" and "Dir en grey". Both of them are amazing and have a really unique sound to them! Oh and maybe some fun fact for your interest: Matt Heafy, the vocalist of Trivium, likes Babymetal and Maximum The Hormone too and supported them by having pictures taken with Babymetal for a magazine or posting a picture of him with one of the Maximum The Hormone guys! Also, sorry for the super long text :D

Hi Alex, just thought I'd say that I love BabyMetal so damn much. I discovered them last year and dove in hard after their guitarist died last January (RIP Mikio Fujioka), What I found is UN-BE-FREAKING-LEAVABLE. I listen or watch their vids almost every day and I'm a 53 year old, long time metal bassist, guitarist, singer-songwriter myself, I wouldn't listen to lame shit, this stuff is next level. You gotta go to Road of Resistance, Live In Japan next. >One of the GREATEST performances of all time.< Not a lie! They have two albums but they are a live show band, Some of the best stuff ever created. Their live shows from japan especially are absolutely insane. Tokyo Dome, Saitama Super Arena 2015, and their ground breaking show at Wimbley Stadium, where they became the first Japanese act to ever headline the British venue and set an all-time merchandise sales record to boot. Seriously, they are so fn good. Peace!

BOH is the man, isn't he ? ! What I'm always amazed by is Babymetal at festivals or smaller venues, no frills, just pure energy on stage. Have you seen Metrock 2015 ? Glad I could be part of the merchandise sales record LOL :-)

Oh yea, BOH is one of the greatest bassists of all time! And yes, I have watched Metrock, the crowd becomes an organism, and at times there are so many simultaneous pits that it blows my mind. I saw them here in Charlotte a couple months ago on this latest tour, but I would have loved to have been at Wembley, what a show!

Do you know BOH was looking up to when he started playing bass or 6-string bass ? Well, there are lot of other shows I'm jealous off as well, but yes, Wembley was amazing. I especially like how Babymetal fans are the kindest people I have ever met. They go the extra mile to be kind to others.

Hi Gary, good to meet you. my name is Randal and I use to play in Miami in the 80s and 90s (I am in the Carolinas nowadays), My bands were Ka-os and Red Eyed Rod and we did a LOT of Judas Priest, Ted Nugent, Fastway, Cars, Night Ranger, Motley Crue, Hendrix, AC/DC, and a lot of originals. I did it for about 20 years in South Florida. I know a Jimmy Beaver that played guitar but not Beaver Felton. I have been meaning to listen to the new JP, perhaps I will even do that tonight.

Long story short, the song is about fighting your inner demons to become a better person. Even if you get knocked down, get back up a fight harder. There is a guy on blogspot, Duane Metal who is a native Japanese speaker that does translations of babymetal songs if you want to do more of their songs. You can't just translate Japanese to English because a lot gets lost in translation. He adds annotations to clarify meanings for lines that don't translate well.

Seen Babymetal at a festival earlier this year, such a great performance, once you accept the gimmicks. The main singer's got some pipes on her! Also, being a basic white dude, I am all about the chorus... and Babymetal can smash a good chorus!

Time for some European symphonic metal. Epica or Nightwish are great bands and they seem to be even better live. For Epica I would recommend Consign to Oblivion (live at Zenith), Essence of Silence (official live video), or Design your Universe. For Nighwish I would recommend anything live at Wacken but Ghost Love Score would be the top of that list. Also Phantom of the Opera live (with Tarja; a previous singer of theirs).
