Very few people can explain why they love Babymetal so much, but it is the whole combination of all the elements involved that make them special and unique - but as Su said "Don't think. Feel." 'Karate' is about fighting your own inner demons, getting up when you've been knocked down, you're crying and it all seems too hard, helping each other to fight on. The figures in white behind the masks were themselves (did you spot the reflections in the eyes at the end?) and they had been conjuring up the demons they had to fight. They defeated the first one, the second knocked them down, but they got up to fight on. They watched a lot of martial arts films to get ideas for the choreo - Moa catching the fly was a reference to The Karate Kid. You have so many more great songs and performances to discover from them and every one of them is different. I'd really like to see your reaction to 'Headbanger' live at Legend 1997 (Legend 1997 was the title of the show in December 2013 to celebrate the lead singer's 16th birthday - she was born in 1997).

I'd known about them for about a year but dismissed them as a gimmick group, then I saw this music video. As soon as Su-Metal stepped forward and sang her first line I was hooked. Instant fan for life. This song is all about overcoming life's obstacles no matter what, defeating your inner demons, and working together. It's such a positive message and I absolutely love it. When most metal bands are singing about death, destruction, and suffering we have BABYMETAL to sing about perseverance, moving forward, and chocolate! Love your reactions, can't wait to see more!

Great reaction Mr. Rock and Roll! I think the best way to explain why Babymetal is infectious is that it mixes the energy of metal with positivity of pop. Karate is a great example of this. I have heard this song hundreds of times but every time I hear it performed live, when Su-metal has the crowd raise their hands during the bridge and then jump when the drop beats, it gives me goosebumps. There are many more great songs to react to but I'd recommend Headbanger if you want more like this, Onedari Daisakusen if you want to see just Moa-metal and Yui-metal perform as Black Babymetal, or Death if you want some really heavy Babymetal.

If you watch closely you will see them reflected in the eyes of the "demon". 2 suggestions Pa Pa Ya a newer release and my favorite early vid favorite Megitsune (official) BUT if comes with a test question, when does Su-Metal say "Maidens are not to be underestimated" it's obvious if you pay attention.

Something I notice about bands in Japan is that they usually have highly talented musicians, decent singers, good dancers (if dancing happens), and childish lyrics. This band is a successful attempt at applying the jpop formula to a different genre. Incredibly catchy chorus and attractive young people is the usual hook. I quite enjoy Babymetal but haven't had the chance to see them here in Tokyo.

I think one of the things about Babymetal is that they are happy metal, they make you feel good/happy. Most bands when they sing about something like death, it's dark and somber, but Babymetal singing about death still makes you feel good and kick arse as well (by the way they did a song called Death). Another Japanese band you should check out is "Unlucky Morpheus - Black Pentagram", they are a technical melodic speed metal band.

Honestly, the best part of BabyMetal is... the metal, the band. The girls sing well and are certainly talented, but the music is what makes this band good. Coming from a musician, they are all so technical and clean. Not many bands out there can top them, and it's unfortunate that these musicians are not more well known. They deserve the recognition that other guitarists/drummers/bassists of big name metal bands get. And the writers are fantastic as well. A lot of talented people backing and promoting this group.

Approximate translation. Some terms are not directly converted to English so meanings are implied in the culture of Japan. Seeya Soiya are like punch one kick two militant and choreographed Japanese Karate terms like "one two punch kick" and is a very organized martial arts style combination with a guttural sound through the solar plexus the US might say, "HUTZ!" or "Keeyaay!" while making the punch or kick for power for those who have taken non-MMA martial arts.

BABYMETAL - Ijime,Dame,Zettai - Live at Sonisphere 2014,UK (OFFICIAL) Some background taken from the top comment on video, its a long read: The song title actually means "No More, Bullying, Forever". It was the ending song at this show, where they managed to turn an epic FAIL into an epic victory. - This was their first tour outside of Japan, and their first UK show - They booked a small stage but, for an unknown reason, they were moved to the main stage at the last minute. Instead of 3-5 thousand of their loyal fans they faced 30-50 thousand (?) trve metalheads. - This was a crowd waiting for Ghost, Deftones, Anthrax, and Iron Maiden. 90% of them knew absolutely nothing about BM. - BM released their debut album just a few months before. All the above mentioned bands had several albums and decades of history behind them. - They were girls between 14-16, all their songs had backing tracks, they sang not in English (the only other metal band that could get away with it recently was Rammstein). The backing band was made up of session musicians. The girls were singing about chocolate, and they were playing hide and seek on the stage, literally. They already had their own made up religion about the Fox God, and their hand sign was mocking the devil's horns. - This was NOT metal at all. They were nobodies and they didn't belong on the main stage of a metal festival. But, they knew it well, and they expected to get booed and bottled. There's a backstage photo of the girls before the show and their faces read "WE ARE F*CKED" And they went on the stage and Yui's hoodie got stuck in her hair, Moa's headset did not work and she missed the opening moves of the choreo. There was a close up of Yui's face on the projector screen at this moment, she saw what was happening, and for a moment her expression was like "ok, forget it, NOW we are f*cked..." - You can see in your video that Yui's skirt also started to fall apart at the last song, IDZ. - So what else happened? The crowd got a taste of the band at the soundcheck and they loved it. Then there was an epic (or ridiculous ?) Star-Wars style video intro showed on the screen. The first song started and 30 seconds later there were moshpits forming. In the next song, Gimme Chocco, there was a call-and-respond where Su effortlessly made the crowd sing the chorus in Japanese. Next came the solos and everybody shat themselves. Then the song titled Catch Me If You Can, then their women-empowering song, and then the ending song you saw. The biggest circle pits and WOD's of the festival. - Everybody was talking about them, and their T-shirts were top sellers even two days later. - If there's an epic entrance to the genre, this is it.
