@berzuhrk the first book/movie are like 98% the same biggest difference in the first is that Thomas and Theresa can speak telepathically and Brenda/Jorge worked for wicked. The 2nd and 3rd are like 2% the same so there are really too many differences to mention. I highly recommend either reading them or listening to the books as audiobooks they are really, really good, especially the prequel it answers a lot of questions.

@berzuhrk another detail that doesn't really matter is that none of the kids' names are their actual names. Wicked changed them and tortured them until they started referring to themselves by those names. That's why none of the kids have the same name

@@berzuhrk I think the main difference between the first movie and book is how they escape the maze. There is a cliff that is really close to the entrance of the maze and it looks like open sky. They figure out thats where the greivers come from, and so they jump into it, and thats how they escape. The scorch trials and death cure are insanely different, so I would read the books. They aren't hard reads (I read them in early middle school), and they are pretty good. If you still want me to try and list all the differences though, just lmk

Fun fact: in the books, the virus was way scarier. It didn’t turn people in to zombies, but slowly made them more and more insane. Which is more original imo.

To be fair the insane part is not removed entirely. Plucking your own eyes out is pretty insane. Normal zombies dont make the efford to remove their own body parts. they just are, and react to to living people. At least in most media.

Read the books 10 years ago and to this day, the book Cranks are still the scariest version of infected in fiction for me. Really freaked me out how gone they were, maniacally laughing in the distance, mutilating themselves and others with twisted logic, and smart enough to sneak and plan to some extent. And that the virus was airborne, so you would see characters randomly, gradually going off the deep end. Wish they had stuck with that for the films instead of the monotonous zombie chases and bites person, spreading the infection trope here. Missed opportunity to bring something new to the table.
@sofialu226

Yep, I Love that take on the Trop, and is one of the changes I didn't like about the movies, they tried going backwards in the 3rd by using the Insane aproch and saying the Virus evolved and now it does spread by air, but it was too late imo. I can forgave them for at least trying to rectify that, but well, it is what it is.

Yeah but it's hard to track that and fit it into a 2-hour movie which is why they kind of amped it up. To me this is one of those film series where you can just fill in the gaps by reading the books because they didn't stray as drastically as other film series have

I was struck by lightning. I don’t remember at all what happened but my friend was in the room and he told me. This is what he said happened: I was washing dishes and the house was struck by lightning. The electricity went through the pipes and into my hands. I fell down unconscious and got taken to the hospital. My heart was still beating but I was in a coma for 3 weeks. When I woke up, I didn’t remember anything except the smells from the hospital room from the last 3 weeks. The doctors told me I was struck by lightning and I was terrified. I lost all my hand-eye coordination and couldn’t walk or move my arms properly. I had to relearn how to walk and to move. I’ve had a lot more side effects since then.

the sound of thunder is actually a sonic boom caused by the air particles in the direct path of the lightening being instantaneously super heated causing them to expand so fast that their rate of expansion breaks the speed of sound. since this is happening along the entire lightening bolt it is super loud and travels super far. anything in close proximity to the lightening strike can be hit by the expanding air and be sent flying. luckily the area that is affected by the expanding air isn't all that wide, but if you are close enough to feel that blast you are probably also going to get hit by the lightening.

We learn a number of things during "The Scorch Trials." We learn that the immunes can treat the Flare, but they can't cure it. The whole idea behind the Trials is to create something like engrams in the brain which would alter the brain's chemistry and so the enzyme which is used as a treatment. The idea is that if the right combination of engrams is produced through the Trials, which are complex, terrifying and potentially deadly puzzles to solve, a cure might be found. It's the trilogy's McGuffin, so you can't read too much into it, however. When Thomas and the Gladers arrive at Jansen's facility, none of the immunes is a cure. At Jansen's facility, Phase Two begins. Phase Two consists of virtual Trials which explains some of the headgear on the immunes. Simultaneously, the enzyme is extracted directly from their brains. Presumably this is for efficacy testing as well as use in treatment. When one of the boys from another Maze tells the Gladers that those chosen by Jansen are going to a farm, he's right. They're going to a "farm" to be harvested because they're the crop. In our hero's adventure-journey, Teresa clearly represents the monomyth's temptress who tries to derail Thomas. She doesn't tempt Thomas with sex, but with arguments both logical and emotional advocating WCKD's viewpoint. It's reasonable to suspect her from the very beginning. Unlike Thomas, she completely broke the Glade's paradigm. Her arrival in the Glade is untimely, she's female, and she heralds the end of the Glade's supply lifeline. Totally inauspicious. Kaya Scodelario does a good job of making her character seem suspect from the get-go. There always seems to be a mistrust-invoking aura about her. In the "Scorch Trials," she tells Thomas "Everything was fine until you ...." This implies she never approved of whatever he'd done. Thomas' drug-induced dream-vision at Marcus' party makes it clear Teresa wasn't part of Thomas' betrayal of WCKD. Thomas acted alone. The longer Teresa is in contact with Thomas through the first two films, the further she seems to move away from him. This begs the question of why Teresa was sent to the Glade. In the first film, Thomas himself even asks her if she's sure she doesn't remember more of her past life. Does he have some subconscious suspicion about her? There are interesting parallels between Teresa and Thomas. Both Teresa and Thomas are betrayers. Which one is evil depends on your answer to the films' theme: Does the end justify means? They both want a cure for the Flare. However, Teresa/WCKD are ruthless in pursuit of a cure, willing to sacrifice however many immunes it takes. Thomas, on the other hand, is completely altruistic. He will sacrifice himself but not the unwilling. In the second film, the purpose behind Thomas' questioning by Jansen was to ascertain whether Thomas has been rehabilitated and can be brought back into the WCKD fold. Thomas clearly was a very important and a valued asset to WCKD before his fall from grace. If he'd passed Jansen's test, he would have had his memory completely restored like Teresa. After Teresa's memory is restored, it's increasingly clear Teresa completely agrees with WCKD's objectives and means. She even begins subtly showing disgust or animosity towards Thomas. Her reaction as she looked at the handheld radio at Jorge's base sealed the deal. She is going to betray Thomas. The only question was under what circumstances, although you might assume it'll happen when the maximal harm will be done. Teresa is a villain. Teresa clearly didn't care about what would happen to the Right Arm personnel. In fact, we know she considered betraying Thomas et al. at Jorge's when she hesitated to release them from their upside-down restraints. We know she did take the radio at Jorge's. So, she could have alerted WCKD before they got to the Right Arm camp and prevented unnecessary bloodshed. It's almost like she was waiting until they found the Right Arm. Indeed, Teresa is so invested in WCKD she clearly wanted the Right Arm eliminated because it is a threat to WCKD and to any potential cure as she saw it. She regards the immunes as lab rats and as a means to an end (the cure). She doesn't really care about them as people per se. She cares more about Thomas because he was a valuable resource (medical doctor/researcher) to WCKD formerly, and she wants him to rejoin WCKD because he might find the cure. Basically, Teresa and WCKD are one and the same. The reason why both Thomas and Teresa were implanted with the mantra "WCKD is good" was to prep them for reintroduction into WCKD. Since WCKD can control memories via its brain implants, it wanted to wipe Thomas' memories of his opposition to WCKD while making him think WCKD was pursuing the proper course with regard to finding a cure to Flare. This didn't work with Thomas, however, because he was able to remember WCKD wasn't good in his view. Thomas even tells Jansen he knows how WCKD attempted to manipulate him into rejoining when he says: "Let me guess, WCKD is good" as he and the others are escaping. At that point, Jansen realises Thomas is a lost cause as far as WCKD is concerned and gives up trying to persuade Thomas. In "Scorch Trials" we discover why Thomas was in the Glade. He'd betrayed WCKD to the Right Arm. Specifically, he informed the Right Arm about the locations of all WCKD's facilities. Presumably, Thomas was sent to the Glade in lieu of immediate death because he was an immune, and WCKD didn't want to "waste" him. His WCKD tag readout at Jorge's did say "To be killed." On the other hand, since Thomas was the best and brightest of the immunes, WCKD may have hoped he'd serve as a catalyst for the Gladers and bring the experiment to completion quickly. Thomas volunteered to go into the Maze. After his betrayal of WCKD, Thomas was given the choice by Dr. Paige: Shape-up or ship-out. Thomas volunteering is also consistent with the Theseus Myth. It's clear from what both Jansen and Ava Paige do and say in the second film that they want Thomas back in WCKD if possible. Thomas clearly was important before the Glade, and his importance doesn't seem to have diminished. What does Ava Paige say at the end of the first film: "Thomas continues to surprise and impress. He may be the key." There's an especially interesting scene near the end of "Scorch Trials." WCKD has seized control of the Right Arm base because of Teresa's treachery and is ready to evacuate the immunes and kill the Right Arm personnel. Thomas, who had escaped, surrenders himself. This is really an act of desperation. He has a bomb, and he's trying to make a bargain with WCKD. He suspects WCKD wants him. This is confirmed by Jansen who says: "Where's Thomas?" He might not like Thomas at this point, but he wants him alive. Thomas threatens to blow himself up unless Ava Paige/WCKD releases the immunes, but Ava Paige rejects his offer. Here's where Thomas being selfless to a fault has created a dilemma. If he kills himself, he accomplishes nothing. Yeah, he escapes WCKD and probably frustrates their purpose, but he doesn't save the others. Saving the others is his goal. As always, he doesn't care about himself. When the others indicate they are willing to die, too, to escape WCKD, Thomas has a tough choice to make. Does he kill them all? This is a kind of mercy-killing, and although TMR champions self-sacrifice for others, it's uncomfortable with the concept of mercy-killing. Again, yes, if Thomas kills them all, they escape WCKD, but Thomas really wants them to live and live free from WCKD. If he relents, then they are all under WCKD control. He obviously doesn't want that, either. That's the dilemma. The choice should be the one that's the closest to the actual objective. That must be life, of a sort, under WCKD. While there's life, there's hope. But that doesn't seem to be the direction Thomas is inclining towards. Very out of character for Thomas. Clearly, he's struggling with what to do, and we don't often make good choices when emotions are high. Teresa and Ava Paige plead with Thomas to relent. Ava Paige even tells him "Everything can go back to the way it was." Teresa said basically the same thing earlier. This is what WCKD has always wanted, of course. In other words, Thomas can have his memory back and rejoin WCKD. She meant it, too, because Ava Paige was actually a foster mother figure for Thomas. He is her prodigal son. The brutal killing of Mary by Jansen coupled with this counteroffer from Ava Paige, which probably tempted him, may be what was pushing Thomas towards blowing them all up. Fortunately, Jorge rescues Thomas from his dilemma. The tragic, tragic irony is that WCKD should have accepted Thomas' offer and let the other immunes go free. "Scorch Trials" is a very good sequel to "Maze Runner."

@wilhelm-z4t
@wilhelm-z4t 3 ай бұрын
True, although we don't get to see much of Aris in the films, he still comes across as similar to Thomas. He's kind of cute, too. Anyway, it's interesting how the test subjects are kept off-balance at Jansen's. Obviously not all, but most suffer from a kind of ex-prisoners' delusion. They're being manipulated by WCKD. "I'm the reason you're still alive," right? They think they've escaped from a horrible situation, and they're now in this "heaven" where they have nice beds, new clothes, warm showers, good food and the prospect of going to someplace even better! Is it surprising they'd be very accepting in the short term? Not so with Aris and Thomas. I suppose with Aris it was a matter of this is too good to be true, and Thomas is always questioning things. Since they are adept at puzzles, it's not surprising Aris would explore the "maze" of vents while trying to ascertain what's really going-on. When Aris sees Thomas questioning what's happening with Teresa, he correctly guesses Thomas is a kindred spirit and seeks him out. I got a kick out of Aris when Jansen was calling names, he was clearly terrified of being called. Also, WCKD processed new arrivals very quickly while they were still docile. Aris had been there the longest, and he'd only been there a week. Yep, process them quickly before anyone started asking embarrassing questions.

I didn't actually get anything other than ringing ears for a couple of hours from the sound. The car insulated me from the actual electricity. I might of peed a little...

I wasn't actually struck, but the bolt of lightning flew over my head and struck the top of my garage instead. It wasn't blue like you see in the movies, it was purple. You could really feel the force behind it too. The collateral effects were classic, knocked backwards, hair stood on end, skin tingling, pressure in the chest like I'd been kicked. The hole it left in the garage was no bigger than what a large nail might make, yet the power was incredible. Too close for comfort.

On a serious note. I was living in Tennessee and the tree right behind our condo is hit by lightning. It split the tree in like in half now the left side grew like a regular tree but the two branches that split only grew white leaves. Like they would have a really hint of green in spots but they were just White. It was so interesting the news came out and they aired it like at 4 a.m.

I read the books, and don't mind the movies as, like a different comment said, I can see them as separate things. But there is one thing from the books that I wish they would've kept. In the movies, the Cranks are basically zombies. Mindless. In the books, while they were often injured and dirty which made them resemble zombies, they were people slowing losing their sanity. While they eventually reached "the Gone", where they were much more like their movies versions (but even those ones spoke),a lot of the Cranks they encountered weren't. They would talk, laugh, threaten and even cry as they chased the group, depending on how far gone they were. Some people in the cities would be infected but seem completely normal except that they were crueler and more paranoid. Those, in my opinion, were scarier than the ones completely gone. I think the book's Cranks would be much more interesting, especially if they added the one Brenda and Thomas encountered in the tunnels who lead a group. "Rose took my nose, I suppose..."
@sofialu226

The "Nooosse" persecution is still the most terrifying part of the whole saga imo, the fact Those cranck were smart enough to act as if they were gone for so long to create a feeling of safety to try and catch Brenda and Thomas is so scary. I've never been struck by lightning, but I was about 20 feet from a tree that got hit by ball lightning once. It rolled on the ground, blew a large hole in the side of a house and went in and blew up the TV. The tree was split in half and I had tinnitus from the boom for about 5 years after.
@wilhelm-z4t
@wilhelm-z4t 3 ай бұрын
Interesting. I had something similar happen to me, but it wasn't ball lighting, which is, supposedly, an even rarer phenomenon. I was by a very tall tree when it was struck by lightning. Totally out of the blue, by the way. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been standing by the tree. It was extremely loud, deafening in fact. It zippered the bark off the tree from the top to the ground, and I could smell it burning. Too say it shook me up is an understatement. Another time, I was in my apartment and lightning must have struck the power line or connection. Again, both a flash and a tremendously loud bang. A repeat of me on the floor/ground. It destroyed all my electronics. Later, i took my tv apart and all the bits after the power cord were nothing but powder or black splotches. Actually, I've had three close calls with lightning.

Every sunday there would be a thunder & lightning storm. We are positioned in a grass field just a bit smaller than a football field, trees around the edges, and a river to the left & back of the field *if looking from the road*. I brought a meta teatherball pole & planted it in the center of the field. I had an idea to have my friends & i try to bottle flip a plastic water bottle up onto the metal pole. This is when there was rain & lightning. The next thing i know is i was 4 feet from the pole & it struck the pole. I saw white for around 30+ seconds and can't hear anything besides the loudest ringing I've ever heard.

It can strike MANY miles away from the actual storm. She went back outside at their cabin and both her and her son were struck. He died she didn’t. Only cause her husband resuscitated her. I remember her saying he said he had to choose who he was going to save. 😭 She had some gold chains on and they melted into her skin. Super scary.

Honestly, I had read the first book and part of the second, and I didn't hate the movies. There were some *BIG* changes, but most of them I could kinda see why they made those calls; certain things would be really hard to adapt and fit into a movie. I can't remember too many specifics, cause it was a while ago now, but I distinctly remember talking with my friend that had read the books (all of them), and the two of us agreeing about this opinion.
