For all the s&%t that some people talk about Alexi, he has one of the most distinctive voices on the instrument that I have heard of any player in the modern era. I do hear a clear Randy Rhoads influence along with stylistic nods to Eddie, Steve Vai, even Dime, but he is never guilty of apeing any of them. Instead he has seamlessly fused some seriously impressive technique to create a very heavy but incredibly melodic and listenable style, part heavy metal, part hard rock with a bluesy edge, very fluid and 100% Alexi. Add to this his brilliant compositional skills and that is why he is in another league to most players. Is he a bit sloppy and unfocused at times, definitely, but I would take his playing anyday over most of the supposedly superior players.

He's such a legend..uses ZERO to hide his playing...doesn't even use a solo tone with extra gain, delay, or reverb. etc..I see so many great covers of alexi that you think sound better n all, but for a fact, its literally just their tone. When he would record the albums it carries such a different sound and its some of my top fav. lead tone, style, and playing all together. You just get that rawraw when you hear play thrus..if you boosted the gain a bit, messed with the amps eq, he'd sound like any dude playing today, but with all the OG magic that he as a legend is. I always wanted to jus hear him riff n shred for hrs with jus real good live tone play thru tone in a comfy room for him..theres the play thru with roope of are you dead yet where u hear how u nails his stuff, or u can listen to albums..but dude was so punk rock in that regards to not caring about that other angle of playn and jus being the rawest cuz he did has all the capability to be able to pull it off. Jus saw Kim Goss talk about how he would not put down his guitar even on off days on the road..be practicing for hours in the hotel rooms, daily. LOVE ALEXI 4lyyyyfefefe

Josh Bennett dude the thing is that the riffs Mark's playing arent the most demadning ones in the world, but they are really creative, and they connect to each other really well, although you need to give his work some time to see how great it is ;) After some time, you'll start to see that every song that he's playing means a lot more than just a few riffs put together, and some fast solos in between of those riffs, every one of them tells a fascinating, unique story ;)

I bought the EMG ALX-HZ passive humbucking pickup and I am torn. As far as shredding, that is what that pickup excels at. The midrange and treble bands are very strong. But I can't get any bottom! I never thought a pickup would be so tailored to one specific aspect of the guitar. It is a very tight, very focused low end. So trying to play something like Black Sabbath where you need some flub on the low E string...this is not your pickup. It is like the Mick Thompson Active Blackout's. It is not a bad pickup, just very specific on what it does. My vote? If you are a pure shredder, get this. If you are more a rhythm guy, go with something more like a Seymour Duncan JB. That pickup is more general purpose and not so focused on lead playing.
