Fuckin sucks man, this one hit hard. CoB was my first concert, they served as an introduction to my first and thus far lifelong metalhead friends. My hyper Christian dad, who was very against me listening to metal, heard CoB and bought me tickets immediately saying "you're not missing this one bud." My gf in high school didn't like metal much, but even she liked CoB, which was the coolest thing to me at the time. Alexi brought so much lasting joy to my life.

This guy writes riffs that people would kill for. Even though he can shred, so can a million other players, but in my opinion a good riff is harder to write and more original. He was a true original. A monumental talent and guitar player. Sadly destined to become almost a mythical figure given his untimely passing. Thank you alexi. 🤘

This, the discussion always tend to lean towards his solos and shredding, but what has kept me CoB and Alexi fan all these year was his riffs. And the influence of classical music which Alexi brought to metal and nowadays so many bands and artist are doing the same. He is still my hero, he won't die in my mind before I die too.

The riffs in this particular song has everything. Going from heavy chugging into a fast thrash metal riff into an even faster gallop. Laiho churned out riffs like that for fun.

I perfectly understand the reaction of most. The two songs on EMG are really far from COB highlights. Truth is, Alexi is an amazing talented guitarist and seriously, after seeing him live a few times, following his bands for years, the last 2 or even 3 albums have been a lot less technical and more groovy. Good stuff but if you're looking for technical stuff, not the right albums to buy. Alexi's technique is excellent and is above pretty anyone posting here. The guy was already impressing your parents when they were 16 years old lol. I was listening to this band back in highschool in the 90s.

Rushil Gupta well hey now, loomis is great but he works around scales, so he makes complex sound out of simple progression. which makes him amazing. alexi uses lots of tension notes which is very complex because its not natural. therefore loomis and laiho CANNOT be compared because its far from the same style. trust me, i play too.

lol, imo hatebreeder sucks as much as dude ranch by blink182 (except the fact that blink182 don't pretend to be "hardcore"), it's just cheesy, just saying, no need to insult. anyway, i understand if you really love the music (i hate it, but this is subjective) but you must not know many guitarists if you find technical playing perfection in some random pop-deathmetal riffs, a load of very fast (and very banal) solos, 100%standard drums, constant 4/4 signature, obnoxious vocals.. blink182 only miss solos and high tempo. just IMO, don't get angry!

Just to remind some of you who obviously don't know nordic people: Alexi's lack of face expressions is totally natural for being finnish and there is actually impossible to see if he's drunk, bored, having a hangover and so on... He also seperates from most nordic people by the fact that he probably has Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD. His bodylanguage, lack of eye contact and things he has told about his personal life indicates this... I'm quite sure he's not drunk here.

what's the tattoo on his left hand mean? he was def one of the best metal guitarist out there, he wanted a Randy Rhoads type flying v but as u see here it's very different in the design. the solo he did here was mostly improv..man he was one of the best. nobody can take that from him... he was incredible and is missed very much

alexi is incredible yes, and he uses alot more technical/theory in his playing but you cannot deny that synyster gates is an incredible guitarist in his own right, they just have very different styles of playing and its down to the listener which they prefer

I have EMG pickups in all of my guitars. And while they are awesome and give you a great starting point I would have to agree with the above comment that alot of the tone is coming from that ENGL amp he is using. I have been LUSTING after a powerball model forever but would have to sell my firstborn to get one :(

joedell71 A Powerball isn't that expensive. But if you have to save some money, then the Ironball might be an interesting alternative. 20 watts is more than enough for every situation ever, as long as you can live with fever features.

Thanks for the tip man. I actually just went out and traded in my old Marshall JCM200 and got a brand new Orange OR100. It's got 4 different power setting 100,70,50,and 30 watts. so it has a power setting for every situation. And it sounds AWESOME. much richer and more detailed sound than my old marshall. Im not even running any OD pedals anymore cuz the amps dirty channel is just that killer sounding. thanks again. CHEERS

It's a harmonic (not pinch) that matches the chord. Basically making it sound fuller. If he played just the chord on it's own and then with the harmonic, you'd hear the difference.
