Man ! you are simply awsome ... love how musical your compositions are, never compromising the groove in the name of technique (some shredders could learn a thing or two from you)

I enjoy every second of every video/music you do. Dat badass playing style, clean notes that you seem to never miss and musicality of songs that are exercises in shredding at the same time can't be beaten. And I love your teaching videos, they are the best in existence.

I really didn't get that feel from it. I thought the use of scales and modes complimented each other. I like mathematic stuff as much as the next guy but, sometimes you just want some 4/4 groove. This song kills it.

Also, the first four notes of the hook/chorus of the song that repeat twice, they sound just like the chorus from Love Bites by Def Leppard.

and people say that the newer generation of guitarists sucks...fuck that, that bothers me, there are a lot of great players out there, i would dare to say that a lot of then are way better than some of the considered legends guitarist from the 80's...

Gutao Abreu Those old guitarists set the scene/stage for the new guys of today. Same can be said for pop culture too lol. But to be fair, technology has risen so so high in the last 15 years, try playing an old strat/telecaster from back in the day, not a remake, and see how it feels like you are playing on a $200 guitar from wallmart. Guitars of today make me feel like I am cheating whenever I pickup something over $1000 value.

+Gutao Abreu 2 words:nostalgia factor,I see a lot of utterly dumb comments on youtube videos nowadays like:''remember when music was real?'' etc. as if there wasn't crappy music in earlier decades.Back on topic:over the last 15 years,we had a emergence of fantastic new guitarplayers not only in shred-metal but also in other genres.Just take a look at Bonamassa,he plays oldschool Blues/Classic-Rock and has mindblowing technique.Not to mention guys like Andy here or Angel Vivaldi or Marco Sfogli etc.

That one bend in the refrain.. man thats so fuckin awesome. for example 1:36 .. andy is one of the guitarists who doesnt really try to get all his skills in every part, he work with harmony and the real fact of music. i love it, nobody can deny putting andy james to the top of guitarists, next to the old godfathers and the "newcomers" like Synyster Gates. I love his music, it opens me more than anything else.

Gutao Abreu that's how the mindset of the troll works. There is no disagreement in style preference on the Internet. To a troll, everyone they disagree with is stupid and everything they don't like is also stupid and lacks value. They may not think that, but they don't realize that's pretty much what they are saying
@flagmuffin1221

Gutao Abreu There's no denying he's good...skill wise. Feeling? Definitely on a waiting list for that. He;s got potential, but from what I've heard of him playing, it's mostly speedy sweeping and alt-picking runs followed by harmonies and bending, all some sort of spooky scale. That's just from what I've heard. I'm more than willing to give him more of a listen if you point me in the direction of some more melodic and graceful stuff he plays.

Don't be overwhelmed by him. Use him as a model to shoot for. One step at a time we can get close. Break it down: scales with fast alternate picking (can do), arpeggios (can do), finger tapping (can do), legato slurs (can do), perfect string bending (listen carefully, develop the ear), great tone (good equipment), great guitar, love, dedication, hours and hours of devotion; step by step, one step at a time. move a step closer each time you practice. It is there for the asking. God Bless.

Every single time I watch someone like Andy James, Eric Calderone, or Tosin Abasi, I start thinking, "I need to work on my tapping more." And that's exactly what I would be doing except for one annoying little detail: my high e broke a couple days ago. Kind of hard to play - especially working on tapping - while only having b - B. Well, actually right now its bb - Bb, but whatever, my point's made.

So... as far as guitarists go... to be "good" now, you just need to play fast and know how to shred the modal scales? I mean, that's great and all, but I was under the impression that phrasing mattered too and not just playing on-the-beat-all-the-time. Play off the tempo, add a creative flair from time to time. Every guitarist from the current generation just... they all sound the same.

20 years of guitar playing off and on. Maybe used a neck pickup a handful of times. Andy changed my mind. This was one of the 1st songs I heard by him and have not been able to stop listening.

Anti Kyle To be fair though, I don't think "feeling" is the main focus on this type of instrumental music, it seems more like a composition in the same way Beethoven, Mozart and Bach made compositions, as is the same with guys like Jeff Loomis and Keith Merrow you know?

Tone is mostly in the fingers and play style in my opinion ;) Some people spend penny after penny and don't sound any better no matter what the rig.

James Haggart Yea,there is a lot of guitar playstyles. Andy tone is sure provided by his fingers,while players like Andy Timmons have wonderfull tone by equipament ( and skills lol ).
