Most of the actors openly hate Riverdale, and Cole especially has gone in interviews numerous times to talk about how awful the writing of Jughead has become. He's even refused to do certain things, like appear in musical numbers, in a desperate attempt to maintain the OG writing of his character. Sadly they're all stuck in a 7-season contract and can't leave until then. But if you look at any interviews with literally any of the actors in the main cast it's very clear they're all waiting for it to end so they can GTFO

Me and my mom both loved the comics and where really surprised and exited that they were making a show of it, but kinda confused about why the adds looked so Moody. Then the show came out. I hated the existence of this show at first and would not watch it but my mom watched it and was very confused. I mean, didn’t Archie like date Miss Grundy or something? And they made her wayyy younger than in the comics. When I heard about that I knew this show would make no sense. My hatred for it calmed down because at least it’s bad enough to be interesting, but when looking for anything related to the Archie comics my hatred is reignited when I am bombarded with Riverdale crap as if the much better comics haven’t existed for decades.

I think she's the only one who knows exactly what type of show she's in, and therefore plays the over-the-top wackiness with just enough conviction to make it believable, in its own bizarre way (I mean, YOU try saying half of Cheryl's lines without having fits of hysterical laughter, the fact that she can breeze through them while still displaying such charisma and personality really demonstrates her skill). In every episode of Riverdale, Betty and Jughead are always the most boring characters, because you can practically feel Lili Reinhardt and Cole Sprouse dying on camera, trying to somehow make the most ridiculous lines and the most ludicrous plot twists sound heavy and important, whereas I feel like both Madeleine and the writer Roberto Aguirre Sacasa have really latched onto Cheryl, making her this crazy camp icon utterly detached from any sort of realism, and therefore fitting Riverdale like a glove.

Cheryl didn't burn down her house she just burnt like a patch of wood above the stove while trying to cook stovetop popcorn. The entire story was a crazy series of YA novels Jughead wrote and they're just toasting him at a book signing or something. People would lose their minds lol.
