I know, right? It would be super cool for them to explore the whole concept and how Jughead deals with losing his hearing but gaining the ability to read thoughts, and I would LOVE to see a similar concept done by a semi-competent writer someday. It will also be interesting to see if they carry the whole "Jughead is deaf/hard-of-hearing" thing through to future seasons or, if like the superpowers, it'll go away at the end of the season.

tbh a lot of things in riverdale are really really interesting, but executed just horribly. like even just with jughead being deaf but reading minds, it's not consistent and is pretty much only acknowledged when it's necessary to the plot. like especially when cheryl/abigail tried poisoning them, jughead couldn't tell what was going on before he was vocally told even if he could've easily read cheryl's, betty's or archie's mind

In those tropes they usually can't see their own aura but they can add a character to be sus about it only to reveal they were by the crash site and also got aura powers but they didn't want anything to do with the mcs so they've just been playing it cool. The later twist can be that he's not seeing people's auras but their like health or something so the darker it is the closer they are to their death day and that's why Betty's was so dark but until that's revealed Betty can angst about the things she's done. Then it could be a Final Destination plotline where they try to avoid her dying and angst about their mortality.

When Riverdale was originally announced I was really excited because I was a big fan of the comics when I was younger, but the show is a mess. If they wanted to do a paranormal/supernatural type of show they should have based it on the cartoon Archie's Weird Mysteries. That could have been really fun to watch and it would have made much more sense that jumping from one crazy plot/theme to another. I really liked what they did with the recent 2019 Nancy Drew series. They embrace the supernatural and it still seems way more realistic that Riverdale 😆 and way more entertaining 😜

Riverdale on the other hand wants to be this big serious epic drama with, bee queens and cult leaders with rockets when it is clearly failing. The last time Riverdale made sense was season 2, and the last time that Riverdale had charm was season 4. Plus the actors look miserable doing it so that didnt make things better.

I guess if people actually enjoy watching it as a "fun but totally absurd" show, then that sounds great for the writers and cast (Sorry if this sounds rude in any way, I don't mean to, I just suck as writing stuff)

It actually really reminds me of Mystery Incorporated, where it was all literal Scooby Doo villains and then gradually turned darker and more supernatural in the second season. It’s just that when they did it in the second season it worked. RD pulling it out for season five just shows they’re out of ideas.

When you're getting your first job & they offer you 7 seasons (for syndication) you usually just go along with it because more often than not you don't get there & if you do, you get residuals for repeats for life. The CW seems to get away with far more rubbish for far longer than any other TV company (or whoever they are) I've ever seen. We don't have it in Australia, just some of it's shows. I do know Riverdale was on here but it disappeared ages ago. Same for quite a number of other shows on there. We get them for a season or 2 then pop, off they go.

The thing with Supernatural was it was supposed to end in season 5, then got popular with the fans to last for 10 more seasons. Riverdale doesn't have that, it lost whatever spark made it great, to the point where even the actors/actresses take a dig on it for lack of direction. If it somehow lasts for more seasons, I think everyone who makes it possible (not the creator, though) deserves a raise.

at least the cast in Supernatural actually had fun doing it and it had wacky episodes that made it fun, like yea it still had plots like "oh god's sister is back and shes trying to end the world to get it at her brother" but it also had filler episodes like "what if they find out some school is doing a musical production of Supernatural" "here Dean is slowly turning into a dog" "lets bring their father back for an episode" "theyre going to a LARP convention" that had interesting premises and either didnt have much to do with the main plot of the season or at least didnt contradict it. Riverdale has none of that. Actors are trapped acting while absolutely despising their jobs wondering when this will end, episodes are dumb and there are no funny filler shit going around.......
