So, one pay leases. The details vary from company to company, but GM considers 1-pay leases as a pre-payment of the monthly charge, not as an expanded downpayment. Check your lease docs for details, but on *this lease, $6000 of the $6300 is the "base scheduled payment" and that payment is prorated on the same schedule as typical lease payments in the event of a total loss. So 1 year in, if it's a total loss, you could get refunded 1/2 of the amount ($3,000) after your insurance pays out the value of the vehicle and GAP insurance (if applicable) pays the delta between that and what's owed. The result is that it's no different than a 24 month lease other than getting a considerably lower money factor and being sheltered from sales tax increases. The main reason to do 1-pay leases is cost: you save money. How? Because generally the money factor (interest in essence) is generally lower on 1-pay deals, you're not "borrowing" as much because you paid it up front, and there can be other offers applicable to 1-pay leases not offered on term leases. On this lease deal the savings for selecting 1-pay came out to $600, or about $25 a month. Because of the base scheduled payment nature, there is no more or less risk involved than a 24-month lease with the same general parameters except that it would be more expensive to pay monthly.

Great summary Alex! GM Financial’s one-pay lease has a .00042 money factor (1% APR) reduction compared to a regular monthly lease. Makes a lot of sense here! I’m tempted to do $5,000 single-pay on an Equinox EV myself, since there’s a $3,000 bonus for current Bolt drivers.

I just signed a lease today at Concord Chevrolet in Concord, California. There are essentially 3 rebates: 1. Costco Membership - $1000 2. House hold member own an EV - 1500 3. If a member of your house hold currently on a lease vehicle, you’ll get another $1000. There is also a GM supplier program rebates. I work for Applied Materials, and I submitted a coupon code. Since my family does not have any existing lease on any vehicle. So the supplier rebates helped compensated. They ran all the numbers and I was able to pay 6077.95 for 24 months including tax license and fees. Break down to 24 months. Its 253.20 per month with 20K miles. Not a bad deal. However, I called my insurance and it would cost 1247 every 6mo. That’s on the high side.

Apple CarPlay is not important. It’s being fed to you like crack cocaine, and I’m an iPhone user. That segment about AC/AA was fear mongering bs in my opinion. There’s not nearly as much value in Apple CarPlay as Alex would like for us to believe especially in an EV where you need battery preconditioning and charging information for routes. Google assistant eliminates the need of voice commands for specific apps.

I bought the same car 2 weeks ago in California a hair below 45k out of the door. The top three asks I had is no glass roof, spacious and much leg room in the back seats, and exceptionally comfortably ride on the road. This car has it, all other features ranked last. I like the AC which is powerful, and classic knobs and button on the console. It makes changing the AC speed and temperature quick and less distracting. The charger that came with it works great after I got an adapter cable for the dryer outlet 240V. It can add about 22 miles an hour which is plenty at night charging. Most of our trips are in the city and it does a great job. The previous gasoline car I had used to leave much gas smell in the garage every time it leaves.

@whynotthinkwhynot-
@whynotthinkwhynot- 4 ай бұрын
@@ericbrown8916 - Yes, and LFP last 6k+ cycles. My current Bolt is rated at 250 mi, 2k charges NMC, that’s 500k miles before reaching the 80% drop off point. LFP are 20% heavier than NMC. If the current 65 kWh weighs 800 lbs, then the LFP would weigh 960. It would also be physically larger. This might not be significant in a car. LiS chemistry lasts only 2k charge cycles, but is cheaper, and weighs 50% NMC for the same kWh. I think taking 400 lbs off a Bolt would result in longer range- it’s basically 12% reduction in weight for that vehicle. These batteries are also non combusting, the DOD has been using the non-rechargeable version for these reasons in things like the Javelin ATGM. You can watch a Task & Purpose video on the Javelin, pause when the soldier removes the battery, and see Lyten on the cell. My EUV weighs 3800 lbs according to GM. 3400 would be more in line with an ICE vehicle of the same size. 4-500k miles is enough for most people to own a car, and the cost to replace an LiS should be ridiculously low- but you know how that goes with LFP- what they SAY and what IS are 2 different things. The only ones getting a discount are manufacturers. Lyten is USA too. Teslas LFP are CTL. GM’s LFP will be BYD. There are 🇺🇸 LFP makers, I hope GM will work with those. The UAW shut down Ford’s plans for a CTL plant in Detroit in the latest agreement- however there is a Chinese owned battery factory being built in Byhalia, MS soon, don’t know which company, but all Chinese corps are run by the CCP.

I have a Kia EV6 like that - almost all the toys without having a moonroof forced on me. Until now, almost every one of my previous cars came with a moonroof, because I had no choice if I also wanted the tech goodies. And I HATE those things with a burning passion. On three of my previous cars, they developed leaking problems in the rain even though I quite literally never opened them. Completely worthless feature that actively harms my car even though I don't touch it. The only time I don't hate glass in the roof is when it doesn't have the ability to slide open (e.g. Teslas, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Toyota Venza, Rivians), because then I don't have to worry about leaking problems. I still prefer to have a solid metal roof with a headliner though.

According to the video, it looks like they shopped around online over a wide area to find this price, hence why they had to go to a dealership so far away that they needed to charge three times on the way back. The dealership's website didn't know who he was online, so I suspect that you don't need to be a car review channel, but you might need to be prepared to spend time shopping around and be willing to go on a road trip to get the best price. You could also just get lucky and have a dealership nearby who really wants to unload their inventory, but that's not within your control. There's also the factor of local incentives which you would only have access to if you are in the applicable areas.

I have been using CarPlay/AA for 7 years. After taste them 7 years ago on a leased Honda Clarity, I upgraded head units for my old Odyssey and Prius to get CarPlay and AA. I found them so much better than using build in car infotainment system, especially about voice commands. However, I don't think they are must have. Bought a Tesla in 2023. Missing CarPlay so much initially, but I gradually learned how to use built in system of Tesla. I think I can tolerate no CarPlay. Mainly because Tesla voice recognization is pretty good and navigation is also good. My take away is that CarPlay is preferred but not must have.

Depends on where do you charge. Here in Europe fast charging on Ionity is 80 euro ct per kwh which makes it ca 50% more expensive to drive on electricity. This is ok only if you have a house+garage which is minority of people. Most people live in cities in appartements and have to use public chargers which is a nightmare. If you don't charge your car in the evening after work you can't go to work tommorow so you have to fast charge at extreme prices. Only tesla has ok fast charge prices ( ca.50ct per kwh) which is about how much diesel would cost. That's why most people don't bother with EV's. And almost nobody I've ever met (and me) likes worrying about charging,that's unnecessary complication of daily life,we've got other things to worry about.

Straight up, no. I've hand calculated gas vs ev cost and where I live its 17-18c a kwh and 3.49 a gallon very consistently. The only ev that was cheaper to operate than its gas counterpart was my old hyundai ioniq ev that got 6mi/kwh. Mind you at its rated 4.6mi/kwh it would of cost me more than the hybrid version to drive, maybe evened out accounting for oil changes. But I compared my coworkers f150 lightning to the statistical average of an f150 with a 3.5 ecoboost or 5.0 v8 and it came out to about 18% more in electricity vs gas, and the powerboost hybrid cost more like 26% less to run. I don't know where you delusional ev lovers keep getting this idea, maybe the gov is paying your electric bill through a tax break because you own an ev or get some type of free charging, but for us people who pay for their electricity, gas with a hybrid makes the most sense

No one mentions the insruance on EVs is insane. My rate tripled when I got an Ioniq 5. Even though the lease is cheaper than my old car, and I have 2 years of free charging, I still pay $100/mo more because of the insurance.

@@james2042 17.5c per kWh @3mi/kWh is 5.89c per mile. My little Bolt is getting 4.5mi/kWh in the city and 3.5 highway lately. At $3.50 a gallon you'd have to get almost 60 mpg to only pay 5.89c per mile. Looking at the 'f150 ecoboost' google says it gets 20 city, 26 highway. It's possible some of the more efficient hybrids can get 60mpg, but only when they're mostly using their battery for short trips and you still have the maintenance on the gas engine to worry about. 4.6mi/kWh @17.5c per kWh is about 3.8c per mile. 2mi/kWh: that's 8.75c per mile. You'd still need 40mpg, and to ignore the extra maintenance, to break even ICE vs EV. Gas prices fluctuate wildly, and electricity can be made cheaper through charging at work, getting solar, time of day rates, etc. All of that is also ignoring the negative externalities of gas vehicles. The noise, the pollution where you live, the pollution to the planet for the constant drilling, refining, transporting, and then burning the fuel.

I’ve never had car play. I had cars for decades with cassette and CD players (cars from 80s and 90s). Now cars have Bluetooth that automatically connects to my phone and gives track info. What am I missing with CarPlay? I’ve got directions on the screen. I’ve got music and music details. What is it about CarPlay that makes it SO important that would be enough of a feature to buy a car for? It sounds like it would be a pretty minor upgrade. Mostly UI and aesthetic. Would love opinions from people with CarPlay.

They had the nerve to tell her to drive it until she had 1500 miles on it & then they could do an alignment. It was like….what? You can’t align it now? So after much heated discussion they aligned it. Didn’t fix it. She thought she’d try driving another GM EV so she went to Cadillac. Their EV did the exact same thing. We believe that this is likely more of a computer issue. It’s hard to accept this problem in a brand new vehicle. Anyone else have this issue?

This is a great deal, I just don’t know anyone who could make use of only 10k miles per year. My car already has 9k miles after 6 months and my brother, who would love something slightly larger than his Bolt EUV, has put more than 30k miles in 18 months. The significantly reduced efficiency of the Blazer would also be an issue for him. He regularly gets 4.5mi/kwh throughout the spring and summer on his backroad commute, I’m guessing the Blazer would struggle to get 3.1-3.2mi/kwh based off of the testing I’ve seen. The charging speed of the Ultium platform vehicles is pretty depressing across the board, especially given that it is new and just now coming out. So many manufacturers have been doing better, faster charging for years now. Even on an appropriate high power charger, most of the Ultium cars take about as long to charge from 10-80% as my 6 year old Tesla. The Nexo is an interesting car, it’s just completely irrelevant for anyone who doesn’t live within and drive exclusively within a very specific part of California. For better or for worse, hydrogen fueling infrastructure is basically non-existent.

No need for Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. And what is up with that crazy motorized charge door? Looks like something that would easily get broken.

Everyone should lease EVs right now if it has the CCS charge port. In the next two years those will go away and all EVs in the US will have the NACS (J3400) connector. Not only that but automakers will get better at the technology so by the time they have the NACS connectors they should be really good and worth buying.
@AAutoBuyersGuide
@AAutoBuyersGuide 3 ай бұрын
I don't think I would go that far. The truth is that adapters will be a way of life for a solid decade at least. We won't see the first non-Tesla with a J3400 until calendar year 2025 but we won't see a majority of EVs (non Tesla mind you) with J3400 for several years yet. The major OEMs have said or implied (depending on the company) that they will update ports as products get released and redesigned. There will be new 2026 and possibly 2027 model year cars with CCS. The other oddity is that CCS is now growing faster than the Supercharger network and most estimates show that if CCS does peak, it won't be until 2026 at which point it may well outnumber J3400. It's just a big big mess with so many different players and plans in place to support one or the other. In a realistic world where CCS continues to improve, J3400 vehicles will increasingly want to have a CCS adapter around and CCS cars will certainly want to have a J3400 adapter if their car is supported by the Tesla network.

The only part of the lease deal that I question is paying the tax on the lease up front as opposed to monthly. In the unfortunate event that something bad happens like an accident that totals the vehicle, a fire (which GM has had some issues with), or something akin to either of the aforementioned, you probably won't get back any of the tax fees that were paid. Having leased several vehicles in my lifetime, I never once paid sales tax up front for that reason.
@AAutoBuyersGuide
@AAutoBuyersGuide 4 ай бұрын
It's a calculated risk. You could in theory get a refund of the sales tax, but that's a hoop to jump through and probably not worth it. The likelihood the car would be a total loss in 2 years is very low. On average insured drivers file a claim of any kind once every 15-18 years and it's rare that that claim ends up being a total loss. Yes it could happen, but you're betting against it.

Alex I understand why you are mad about Carplay, but hear me out. Car companies have to continually invest time and effort making sure these systems get along with their hardware, and probably have to pay a hefty sum to Apple and Google for the privilege as well. There are good reasons for getting off the carousel. Just make the in-car systems good. Carmakers had been getting way with putting sub-standard navigation and media player functionality because everyone was just using their phone. Without that safety net, they HAVE to make these apps good. And then if they don't, people won't buy the cars. I think its a good move by GM to get away from it all. Just focus on making a good product that people want to use without modifications. If I'm a customer and spending 50k on a new EV, I want to be able to sit down, open a navigation app, and have it just work. If I'm a car company, I don't want to suffer the complaints when people upgrade their phone or Google/Apple decide to release a new OS, and suddenly Carplay/AA loses some feature.

Unfortunately they stopped the Costco discount in August so I missed out on that. I still don’t have a home charger other than what came with the vehicle. Do you have any recommendations for the most affordable setup for fast charging. I know I need a 240V outlet which I will have to call an electrician to install. But that’s all I know so far. As a side note, I also test drove the EV Equinox, but like the bigger size and higher quality of materials the Blazer uses. Take a look at the window trim on any new Equinox EV and you will notice it looks cheap and sun faded right out of the factory. The Blazer on the other hand used much higher quality window trim, and other materials in my opinion. Just putting that out there for any other people out there looking for their first or next EV.
