Thanks! Your videos have not only saved me hours of time, but made things possible that I would've otherwise given up on out of frustration. This technique in particular frees up my Shuttle HD to record, while allowing me a lot more flexibility in the kinds of media I can play. (The Shuttle HD is notoriously difficult when you try to mix videos recorded with different frame rates, audio settings, codecs, etc.). Using your technique I can queue up openings and other clips with a lot more freedom.

Thanks again for the support Joe, massively appreciated. And yes agree with what you've said about the Hyperdecks...they like to have everything set to the same framerate etc to be able to be visible for playback. Glad to hear that using OBS as a playout system is working well for you :)

@@AlexPettitt I tested the workflow you described on the ATEM Mini Pro ISO in my office that I use for Zooms to confirm the workflow and it works flawlessly, thanks to you, Alex. I'll repeat the steps with my studio setup using the Extreme ISO and then re-think using the Shuttle for clips because as I mentioned in another comment, it doesn't seem possible to use one Shuttle HD for both playback and recording and I really need to have a backup in case it freezes again. I picked up a new SanDisk Extreme Pro that claims to have 2000 MB/s read/write speeds and this time I'm going to use exFAT to see if that prevents the problem. Either way I'll also split my final output so I can capture the program on my Atomos. Lastly, I'm re-thinking my primary cameras so I can have even more backups for the individual cameras. I know my 90D can't record to SD while exporting clean HDMI, but my Lumix G85 should be able to do this, so perhaps I'll either get another one, or a BM Pocket 4K. You can never have too many backups. :)

I have build a Raspberry Pi for the same purpose, playing video files, and for transitions on my ATEM Mini Pro. I use the OMXPlayer, from a command line. Playback is controlled via Companion, and a Stream Deck, and will also do the switching inputs automatically 😀 It’s a bit more advanced to setup, but once it is done, you have a very compact, and stable solution. The same Raspberry Pi is also used as a Streaming Brigde (like the Blacmagic version), so other ATEMs can stream to my device. Thanks for this great video 👍

Just wanted you to know that we struggled for many hours with getting our church service audio to come through on live stream until we went through OBS first. The mixer went into the ATEM Mini, then to the laptop, and the audio was baaaddd. The voice audio wasn't as bad, but the organ music was terrible. Our tech guy that set it all up (hired in) was pulling his hair out, since in person everything sounded great. Even tried adjusting the audio in the ATEM, that didn't help. But when we ran the live stream through the OBS first, the sound was fixed! Thanks for your great videos!

Hi Alex! Great tutorial. I was able to follow along, setup VT's to play after I press my computer source video on the atem and select the video in OBS. Where I'm stuck is at 8:48, I'm trying to understand how you played the video in the atem mini program feed as a clean looking video and it's not showing the obs controls like you have on your background? I don't understand what I might have missed ?? I even went back to the 5:00 mark, but my windows doesn't drag over like yours and even then I'm not sure how you could have started the video so cleanly and not displaying the obs control screen?? How?? lol.. :-/

Hey J’Mel, it sounds to me like when you connected your ATEM Mini to your computer, your computer is in MIRROR mode, instead or EXTENDED DISPLAY. Try setting to extended display in widows display settings and all should work fine. Any trouble, just give me another shout here in the comments :)

@@AlexPettitt Thank you so much !! I did have my computer in mirror mode. There is no way I would have figured that out! I didn’t even know the atem mini can serve as an extended display. I’m not sure if this is the way you did it particularly in your example, but once I moved my full screen projector window over to the mini, I put OBS into studio mode, and I was able see how you can queue other videos to preview and then cut them to the program side smoothly. These are such powerful little tools with so many possibilities! I appreciate you taking the time to help me out and thank you for teaching!

@@younken24films You're welcome! And I'll try my best to help you. I'll tell you my setup and hopefully that will help. I have my macbook pro on hdmi 4 of my atem mini (you can use hdmi 1-4). On my macbook, I have my airplay set to "use as a separate display". The hdmi out on my atem mini is going into a camlink 4k into the usb of my imac. When I'm using zoom or a quicktime movie recording.. and I press hdmi 4 on my atem mini, I'm viewing the extended display of my macbook. When I drag any window on my macbook to the far far right over to my extended screen, that is what I will see when I'm presenting in zoom (or quicktime) when I press hdmi 4. What I was sharing about OBS .. I open OBS on my macbook and I put it in "Studio Mode". I go to the program window (the right side), right-click, and select either "full screen projector (program) and select bmd hdmi" and that will automatically play whatever I'm playing in obs as the program. Or if I choose "Windowed Projector (program)" and if I move that to my extended display, whatever I play in OBS that is what will show when I'm on hdmi 4. There are multiple ways to achieve the same thing depending on your setup, but hopefully this helps you with the concept.

When scored, I press record and then it keeps the last 10 secs since I pressed. Hi Alex … I truly appreciate your videos as they’re clear and helpful! I’m an online music teacher, and over the past few years, I’ve had inconsistencies and some difficulties live streaming videos of my students’ seasonal performances. I’d like to NOW stream directly (via Ethernet) into a platform that’s accessible by ANYONE (ie NOT Facebook LIVE), but without a subscription service, as I’ve used before (with mixed results) If possible, could you verify if the following livestream “signal path” seems correct: 1. OBS (on a MacBook) accesses video file(s) that reside on the same MacBook 2. Video and Audio (configured as you described) are sent out of OBS, via HDMI to the ATEM mini 3. ATEM mini is connected via Ethernet to a router (ATEM webcam out is disconnected from the desktop Mac I use for interactive classes) 4. Streaming platform of choice then accesses the ATEM mini, ie video files, live cameras, live audio I suppose that monitoring the livestream broadcast should be from another device (not the same MacBook) THANKS!

On the Mac, there's a video server app called Mitti, which can be configured to emulate a HyperDeck Studio player. That gives you the unique ability to launch video playback from the ATEM Software Control app, or via a macro button programmed on an ATEM Mini. The main drawback to Mitti is the licensing fee, but it's worth it for those who prefer to use hardware controllers rather than a mouse.

I tried this solution but had some frame rate issues, but maybe it was due to my paricular setup, or the frame rate of the videos themselves. Also, I wanted to use the DownStreamKey on the ATEM, so I tried combining h2r graphics with a window capture in OBS, projecting over itself the Program of OBS. It somewhat worked, but was laggy and less clean than the « native » output of H2R graphics. I’d love to see Blackmagic update their more powerful ATEM’s with the feature of the Mini’s. With 2 cameras + videos/slides + Key&fill, I’m quickly out of available ports on the Mini. 😅

1) Make sure no other program is running that might be trying to access the BM. 2) Restart everything :) Its likely something is running in the background that is requesting access to the BM and blocking other apps from using it at the same time.

Hello, could you explain me one thing about ATEM mini pro… I will record a video from all the camers to a usb-c hard disk. Can I download these files on my computer directly from ATEM, if I use only the ethernet connection with ATEM mini pro?

Hello Alex - how to write on two disks at the same time using Atem Mini Pro ISO? Thanks
@AlexPettitt
@AlexPettitt 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, unfortunately it's not possible as the ATEM Mini has one USB-C port and can only write to one disk at a time. You could come out of the HDMI Port to a HDMI based recorder if you need a second recording

if you do not see the BMD HDMI for the full screen projector it is because you have your display set to duplicate/mirror and not extend this display. Hope this helps someone in the future

For some reason I can not get the Atem Mini Pro to show us as a projectable device. I can set the audio output to BMD HDMI, but when I right click on the preview and go to full screen project it doesn't show up as an option to project to. Anything I am missing?

Hi, hope you can help me. the BMDI HDMI button isn't showing in OBS when clicking Fullscreen/Windowed projector (Preview). HDMI is plugged in from the computer (iMac BigSur) to the ATM mini Pro (Input 4). What could be the possible problem? Thanks

Being new to the ATEM world, is there a way to access the ATEM control panel on an iPad so I don't have to use the MacBook I'd be outputting videos/graphics to an ATEM (would you lose the video output because you're switching apps on the MacBook ?)

So this works but I stream from OBS and use Atem as a capture. This setup creates a weird loop but if I had a separate Laptop with OBS and this is gold

Some people might prefer doing this with VLC. It can also use a separate fullscreen "projector" /window that you can put on the external monitor output, so into the Atem Mini. In this case, you have to ensure that VLC stops playback at the end of a clip. Which one is better for the purpose, VLC or OBS, depends on your taste. VLC is a bit easier, you can just construct a playlist from all kinds of media (also images). OBS allows for adding text, doing effects, even chroma keys and also has this multiview window that can be operated via touchscreen.... but requires more preparation.

Im actually using it the other way around, im sending the atem into obs. its easier to have the graphics and animated things in obs rather than the default ones in the graphic h2r. the only problem that i have is the audio doesnt instantly cut when switching scenes.

same here, because I have a team when working on a stream, it becomes such a breeze if there's a lot of inputs like powerpoint slides, videos, or what not.

Will this OBS work with a computer that has a display port out (used with a display port to HDMI cable) and will that work with a convertor that then goes from HDMI to SDI? (I have the MINI Extreme Iso SDI version.)

G'Day Alex, Great presentation well done. I have downloaded OBS 27.1.3 Following you instructions in this video everything was good until I right click on the main preview window. Full Screen Projector is visible but... when I hover over "Fullscreen Projector (Preview)", the only option available reads "(1) 1920x 1080 @ 0,0". Blackmagic device is not there as an option. Nor is it available when I try and set up the audio. Many Thanks.

Thanks again!! There is a new update to the Atem Software and it is not as interesting as it could be. A nice upgrade would be to be able to use chroma key and overlays at the same time. Currently if I use the chroma key I cannot use third lowers at the same time. All this to continue streaming directly through the Atem Mini Pro. Or does anyone know a trick for this? As an annotation, with Restream and Streamyard you can do something similar but with the Atem connected as a webcam and I do not know if that in the end deteriorates the quality.

So obs would recognize the atem as a single source even though you would have multiple cameras connected to it? And you could select the atem as the obs source and then use the atem to switch cameras? Could you preview the atem camera inputs in obs before switching between them?

I don't own an ATEM, but I use OBS in combination with a capture card, StreamDeck and a GoXLR. And I wonder, what is the advantage of using an ATEM? To me currently it looks somewhat redundant to the possibilities of OBS.
