Right but bit slow especially the second one when it retracted it's landing gear and than it stumbled a little bit like it had bit less speed,I've seen other hornets take off and they were like rockets compared to this one.

@happypapi19032 жыл бұрын
That low-mid sound is common with most turbine engine startups. Back spools are spun up with bleed air from an APU or another engine or an electric motor, fuel is introduced and ignited, hot air accelerates the back spools which in turn spins up the front spools and the fan-disk or propeller and attached governor which brings in more air. That release of energy when the light-off happens is where that low-mid roar comes from. It only sounds like a rotary engine because of the distortion of the mic.

Most likely not. While the RAAF airframes were to be upgraded along with the original RCAF airframes, I don’t believe they’d be installing the now superfluous left nose searchlight that are found on the original RCAF fleet, which you see on these birds when they hit the runway.

The Hornets aren't loud, I was an Aero Engine Tech on the old CF-101 Voodoos, the Cf-188 Hornets are quiet compared to the Voodoos, especially when the Voodoos flick their Bics to light up the afterburners, they could rattle windows a 1.5 kms away.
@maryrafuse22975 жыл бұрын
Charles Damery you are correct. I attended airshows in Moncton NB in the 1970's when CF-101 Voodoos broke the sound barrier directly over the crowd. The sound was impressive.

You haven't heard a bloody Vulcan. Now those were LOUD. The Brit's brought one over for the first Maple Flag exercise at CFB Cold Lake back in 1978. I remember some Voodoos coming up from CFB Comox for that exercise. They were loud too but the Vulcan beat them for sheer noise production.
@Chuck59ish5 жыл бұрын
@@martinabest5801 I still have my 8X10 photo of the Vulcan from the 1975 Abbottsford Air Show and in 1985 we had a Vulcan transitting through CFB Trenton on it's way back to England from Red Flag at Nellis AB outside of Las Vegas. We parked it refueled them and I left them a young French Canadian air women to help them, well she came back crying about 5 minutes later, so I rushed down to find out what the problem was, the aircrew was all Cockneys and they couldn't understand her either. They just wanted a stand so they could put their luggage in the nets in the bomb bay. They also a tour of the very cramped cockpit. The next morning they started up and got permission to do a fly by, it was a cool morning, so the engine howl was at it's best.

True, they can fly. Ask the Australians how they feel about the F-35. A very mixed reaction. Perhaps Canada's going slow is a good idea on this one occasion. The reimagined/revamped F-15 would cost the same as the F-35 and perhaps be better for our challenging climate conditions. Perhaps a mix of F-15's & Super Hornets?
@LanielPhoto3 жыл бұрын
@@maryrafuse3851 - Lt Morrison now flying the same tail number (aircraft) that his father flew, and that his grandfather flew way back when first introduced. Most are flying on salvaged parts from hangar queens. F-15s as old as the F-18. Super Hornet much better but getting old also. Maybe we should just abolish our pretend fighter force and do nothing but transport and rescue. Oh yeah, and fly Trudeau around.

The Two Solitude's, there is no translation from Canadian to Francophone of the werd "HORNET".. So to get around this.. The RCAF re-christened the F-18 Hornet to the CF-188, specifically to get rounds that issue, with the Frogs..... You didn't show it clearly enough for me.. Did the CF-188's startup on the own, internal, without the need from an external power source...?? That was me BIG take away from this Tube.. the F-35 can't due that..!!
