How was this game underrated?!! When this game was release 2002, everyone was talking about it at my school. Even the guys that didn’t watch wrestling much was into this game. This one and shut your mouth was a huge hit for me and my friends. So I’m not sure what this guy meant by “underrated”. One thing for sure is that I’ll play this game over any 2k WWE games today. Word life!

In terms of the best wrestling games ever made, here comes the pain, no mercy and all stars are always brought up constantly. Whereas SYM is never really mentioned in that conversation even though it’s just as good as any of those other games. That’s why I think it’s underrated

Shut Your Mouth had the best Season mode in my opinion it went on for 6 years and if you won every title in the game you'd be in every match on the card when it was time to do the PPV.

sym only had a 2 year season mode and then it defaults back to the default champions. that was the only issue really about the game. hctp although has only one year in season mode but it keeps the champions as the way before the season ended and it gives you more exploring opportunities for the season to explore other stories that you haven't done, kind of giving it unlimited stories.

I've always played this over Here Comes The Pain because of the many opportunities in Season Mode that can happen with just about ANY wrestler somewhat. Especially since it adds 2 years in Season Mode instead of one which honestly shocked the hell out of me.

My favorite wrestling game of all time. I still think Here Comes The Pain is the best one they've ever put out, but SYM has a special place in my heart. The roster, the story mode, the soundtrack, the gameplay, the time period. Everything rocks!!! Glad to see it get some recognition!!

@@I_Am_The_Social_Reject I can agree in that way, but I feel the gameplay really improved. With it, Yukes formed the basis for the Smackdown vs Raw games going forward. Every move connects perfectly. Shut Your Mouth is still my favorite but I really feel the gameplay in Here Comes the Pain is it's strong suit.

@@mattsetzer The game play upgrades don't really replace content that keeps me playing. If Shut your mouth was massively worse then yeah I could see it. Smackdown Vs Raw was a massive downgrade in several ways. Then 2006 was back to being amazing. Then 2007 had one of the worst season mode ever since Just Bring It. Almost 50% text. Like that's how WWE storylines play out. Then 2008 was bad but in a different way. But gameplay was improved. But didn't make up for boring 247 mode. Then 2009 happened and I was done

This was my first game for the WWF when I knew anything about it, I was introduced to No Mercy before I had any idea about wrestling. And let me tell you, the draft itself was great, the roster, gameplay, story, just great. And I think it’s where I started giving my main CAW Super Saiyan hair and it last for years. A VERY long time. Love it, man.

In *Season mode* there is a storyline where the rival GMs (Vince and Flair) join forces, go on a power trip and take the tag team titles. Then it’s your job to find a partner to take down the bosses and re-cap the titles. You can pick from a selection of guys backstage BUT if you already have a team created you can choose that partner. I made a team with Vince for the lols and there he was in the locker room. So I chose him, and then Vince and i went on to challenge Vince and Flair for the championships. Yes, there were 2 Vinces in the ring. Yes, i broke the game. And yes, it was awesome. Great video btw ^^

It’s astonishing how todays wrestling game can’t get it right. They focus too much on realism. Wrestling isn’t real, it makes no sense treating it like a real fighting game. The old games understood that we wanted fun games where we could do extreme stuff like jumping out of helicopters, off of the stage, and put people through tables. Todays game focus on how to appease the IWC and Meltzer with 5 start matches and pretending to be Vince with running the show.

They used to be good when THQ and Jacks/Yukes were the ones making them. IMO 2K just hasn’t compared since then. That’s why HCTP is still the best ever. And SVR are well loved as well. The smackdown games prior to HCTP are good too. Those games are what set the tone going forward, learning from mistakes and adding the right features.

One of the best games, best rosters, best moves, you could make your own taunts, could make wrestlers not in the game easily as their gear was available (you could even make David Beckham as they had the England kit in it) and flexibility in a long story mode to choose if you were always the champ or go for other belts.

Smackdown Shut Your Mouth was the first wrestling game I ever owned and it is my all time favourite. I’m so glad you were able to do this game justice! I actually skipped HCTP and didn’t actually play it until 2009/2010. The two of them respectively are the best wrestling games produced on the PS2. The main reason is the charm and style behind the game. Not to mention every character has a specific move set and everyone plays completely different! I just discovered your channel and the amount of work and commentary is fucking great man. 10/10 can’t wait to hear you review more Wrestling games. You gotta do Day of Reckoning.

The only thing wrong with Here Comes the Pain is they removed Jeff Hardy before it released due to him being fired and refusing to go to rehab. Yes you could create a great version of him with the online CAW templates(remember those) but it wasn't the same. Shut Your Mouth had Jeff so it has that over Here Comes the Pain, just no paint since it was right b4 he started doing that.

I got this game late and never grew up with HCTP, this game lasted me years and years probably until I got SVR 2006, and still then I played it over, and to this day I’ll run story mode with new characters and still feel as though there’s more interactions/pathways to experience. The only perfect 10/10 wrestling game, over HCTP , better story mode unlockables and roster, and actually has commentary!

I remember when my older brother was looking in the create a wrestler for this game, he saw the hairstyles, and found the Super Saiyan Goku hair, and because we were big DBZ fans so he decided then and there to recreate Goku in game, couldn't find the top for him at the time so we just made him shirtless like when he went Super Saiyan the first time. Also for some reason he decided to use Undertaker's entrance for him because in our dumb 12 and 6 year old brains thought it was the coolest thing ever seeing Goku come in on a motorcycle, not to mention being able to drive it around.
