We're the best in the west, as our intro accent suggests. But soon thereafter, we jump into analyzing quadratic graphs and functions in vertex form. That includes transformations such as vertical shift, horizontal shift, and stretch. We graph as well, using symmetry. The last problem is to create an equation of a quadratic function, given the vertex and a point. YAY MATH!

9a=-3 You want to solve for a; therefore, you want to get a on its own. You divide both sides by 9 to get a = 9a/9= -3/9 the 9s will cancel leaving the following:- a=-3/9=-1/3.

Teachers should understand why students ask questions. When the student asked "How did you get that" in reference to the 9a=-4; she did not realised that the equation was multiplied, and there was a separation of the numbers from the literals through a transposition. While you are an excellent teacher, sometimes for teaching efficacy, you need to understand that students do not always follow your tacit instructions.

How to solve this problem in quadratic equation y=x^2-2x-15. What are coordinates of the vertex of the parabola? where to apply this formula -b/ 2a any help is appreciated.

@Deez_Nubz
@Deez_Nubz 6 жыл бұрын
You are correct about -b/2a part. But that is for only finding the vertex. So for that equation -2 would be b and 1 would be a. So if I am correct that should equal to 1. Now plug in 1 to x^2 -2x-15. 1^2 -2(1) -15. So the vertex is (1,16). Now you need two x-intercepts. You can use the quadratic formula but the easiest method for me would be the "complete the square" method. What you do is you factor the x^2-2x-15. I believe that comes out to (x-5)(x+3). What you do is have them equal to 0. So for example it would be x-5=0 and x+3 = 0. So your solution set (5,-3). So you have two x intercepts now. The last thing you need is a y-intercept. All you have to do is set x as 0. So 0^2 -2(0)-15. The y-int is -15, so all you have to do is plot the points. I hope this helps you even though you posted this a year ago
