The reason these first three parts of algebra for beginnners is so helpful to me is because I have not reviewed these basic concepts since high school and am in college algrebra now where such things are not reviewed. So grateful for this channel.

Overall, this is a great series, however, people are here because we don't have the money to waste on 99 level College Algebra and are trying to test out of that so we can actually get on with our educational careers, and then only maybe some day have the money to throw around at "would be nice to haves."

Highlighted comment Stan Lee 2 weeks ago (edited) Thought process for exponents 1) To Multiply or Divide exponents: Write the letter once and (+ or -) add or subtract the actual exponents together . 2) To ADD or SUBTRACT an equation that contains exponents: (+ or -) add or subtract the numbers but then write down the matching letter once and their matching exponent once, (HINT) if the letters match but the exponent doesnt they cant be added or subtracted...................................... They need to tell you things like : When you use "multiplication" and there are like letters that have exponents above them you write down that letter once and you "add the exponents together" . If its "division" you do the same thing except you "SUBTRACT" the exponents . There are a lot of little things like this they dont tell you out right and that is why algebra is confusing. They say these things when they are solving the problem, when you have 4 concepts you are juggling and your brain can handle any more and you get confused. If they would say ' now we are going to do this multiplication problem , be looking out for matching letters with exponents , use the letters ONCE and add their exponents together" and then you would get it. ..............................................................................Now you we are "adding exponents" look for letters that match that have the same exponent too 1 X3 + 2 X3 = 3 X3 so you have 3 Xcubes, you add the numbers up but write the matching letters with matching exponents just one time. so 3 Xcube 3 X3 , if the exponenst dont match then nothing changes 1 X2 + 2 X3 ................................................ If you are "subtracting" its the same but you subtract the numbers instead of adding them 1 X3 - 2 X3 = 1X or just X . .............................................................................................lets make this even simpler if you Multiply or Divide exponents write the letter once and add or subtract the exponents . If you add or subtract exponents add or subtract the numbers and write down the matching letter once and the matching exponent once. ................................................................. Simpler yet whne it comes to exponents : if you see a a multiplication or division symbol look fore macthing letters , write that letter down and add or subtract the exponents... if you see a plus or minus sign look for macthing letters with matching exponenst and write it down , then add or subtract the numbers. Mult /Div : match letters add/sub exponents. Add/Sub: match letters and exponents then add/sub the numbers. Multiplication: add exponents DIVISION: Subtract exponents Addition: add the numbers Subtraction: Subtract then letters and exponents must match

The way I understand it is like this. For the sake of discussion and to distinguish one from the other I will capitalize the variables of the first polynomial while the second polynomial will be in small letters. Thus to expand will give us: (2A+3B)(2a+3b). You take the first polynomial (2A+3B) and multiply each of its term with the second polynomial, thus 2A(2a+3b) + 3B(2a+3b). Does that make sense? Or at least, that's how I understand it. I'm 53 yo and also just learning also.

I get lost at the 10:00 mark (2a+3b)(2a+3b) does not seem like it can equal 2a(2a+3b)+3b(2a+3b) To me these two numbers are proportioal but not equal. 2a(2a+3b)+3b(2a+3b) is a much larger number. This is how I always get lost in math. When a step is not logically explained I can not make the jump and then I am stranded at that point. Going ahead only adds to the confusion.

Could you explain the equation at 9:41 a little more? I'm wondering why you can't say 2a*2a=4a² 3b*3b=9b² 4a²*9b² Also, where does the 2a and 3b outside the parentheses come from when you work this out? 2a(2a+3b) * 3b(2a+3b)
@lowandhigh7044
@lowandhigh7044 5 жыл бұрын
Because its like (2a+3b)(2a+3b) Try to calculate it in the long way 2a+3b × 2a+3b = 4a^2+6ab 6ab+9b^2 = 4a^2+12ab+9b^2 I hope you get it ❤

I just don't get where the square came from in the result, on "a" and "b" also why not on "ab"? I just can't leave anything without understanding, it pains me lol. it probably came from the exponent on the first statement but I thought that was resolved in the process. Teachers teach "how" and usually not the "why" this is why overthinkers have many unanswered questions about every lesson. great explanation though I really appreciate it, I learnt a lot from part 1 to this part.,

Thought process for exponents 1) To Multiply or Divide exponents: Write the letter once and (+ or -) add or subtract the actual exponents together .

It's been over 20 years since I graduated HS. I recently started college, and before I get to a math class, decided to refresh (ie, completely learn from scratch again lol) math. I was good with videos 1 and 2, but you completely lost me on this one. I. AM. SO. SCREWED. 😬 lol

If you can afford our UltimateAlgebra Course. I'll encourage you to get it. It's $34. It will be the best investment you'll make in math. Teaching on KZbin is harder. How many examples do you put in the video? In the course we are able to teach a topic and use examples videos to separate portions of it. We even use text, where it's more appropriate than video. You really don't have to buy if you cannot afford ... this is me genuinely trying to help you.

Think of it as (-5)(-5)(-5). Multiply -5 by -5 and you get 25. Now multiply 25 by -5 and you get -125. Make sense?
