How is -(4) became positive?

If you are referring to the first line. we have -4 / (2)(-2) = -4 / -4 = 4/4 = 1

son of a gun I thought the a Value had to be positive, so I divided the whole equation by -1. Got the same numbers for vortex, just wrong signs. (I only watched as far as figuring the vortex.) edit I fully watched, and yeah the step I took that messed me up I would only take if completing the square to solve for the x values. Cool video and love the bow tie. (reminds me of my dad he always wore one and was a great man)

Was it given to you in the form of an equation? y = -x^2 - 4x - 5 ? This graph opens downward. Note that - (5)^2 = - 25 and - (-5)^2 = - 25
