My god, these talks with Pierre Grimes are extraordinary ... Jeffrey M does a great job. Where has Pierre been hiding all my life? I’ve run out of words. An absolute joy to listen to! Thank you.

Hello, actually what this gentleman is describing in his early anecdote are the principles of Depth Psychology working in the setting of a pattern of addiction, that is an engram fixated in the early emotional history of the patient in relation to his mother's expectations, this goes beyond cognitive psychology and it's actually psychodynamic psychology. This happens to be my specialization and the creator of the theory passed away recently, Dr. Werner Meinhold from Germany, recognized to create a method to work with this engrams through hypnosis and depth psychology principles. I find these videos very enlightening and interesting to see how knowledge becomes connected in different fields of study.

If we could learn from joyful resonant truthful experiences as much and as quickly as we could from unconscious pathological experiences then we could excel in wisdom but we could also not get to this realisation without this process

Are you referring to the point at 23 min? I am contemplating that as well. "A most profound and interesting learning that stays with you" if we could use that to instantly learn meditation for example. Wow! At 13 min he kinda gives some insight into how these pathologos are formed. The man felt attended to and felt beauty and kind get from Pierre's description that the man experienced a sense of timelessness. We need to figure this out!

I'm not sure that you made the connection between Self and transcendence quite complete in this conversation, but it was a stimulating one, all the same. It is reassuring to think that there are a finite number of pathologos (How I want to say 'pathologies'!) for an individual (excepting the possible infinity of past lives.) In passing, I would love to hear the two of you discuss the distinction between the Germanic and the Austrian mentalities. It seems there is a sort of distinction between the two that has shown itself in politics, philosophy, economics, and music, as well as psychology.

Thx 4 sharing this great insight. Perhaps if past life dilemmas do carry over, maybe soul groups travel together too, as has been suggested for some time now. In which case, we may be continually looking for a common order or idea for ourselves to unite our disharmony into harmony (or bliss), lest we drink or dance ourselves into oblivion eternally. That could be why the planets around us appear uninhabited as others have found their way forward and now live in finer, etheric realms more harmoniously.

What Pierre seems to me to be talking about here is, to use the Jungian term, “individuation” - or the integration of the elements of the psyche (which, following Plato, Pierre says are three) to achieve complete “self-hood.” “Pathologoi” are beliefs that a person maintains (whether they know it or not) which hijack the individuation process, thereby preventing them from realizing their true self. Thus, as Dr. Mishlove put it, “The psyche is ultimately reaching toward self-hood.” Unclear, however, is what Pierre means by the “self.” Is it, for example, the acquired “ego” of psychology, or the recovered “original nature” of Buddhism? Or is it something else since his approach seems to focus on, not so much acquisition or recovery, but growth...

Self can be described in Plato's dialogue Parmenides, The first hypothesis. Psychology does not come up to the idea of Self that Pierre is talking about. Pathologos are false beliefs about the Self that has been accepted as true. Discovering the reason for accepting the pathologos can also make understandable why the beliefs remain or persist.
@petera.93626 жыл бұрын
The first hypothesis of Plato's Parmenides is that One is. The reasoning provided is as follows. The One cannot be many. Therefore, the One cannot have parts, nor can it be whole (since a whole is that which lacks no part). Having no parts, the One does not have a beginning, middle, or end (since each of these is said to be a part). Having no beginning, middle, or end, the One must be limitless and, therefore, non-linear and shapeless. As non-linear and shapeless, the One does not occupy a set position in space; that is to say, the One is not anywhere. Not being anywhere, the One is not at rest, nor can it be in motion. Because the One cannot be in motion, it does not come-to-be. Since the One does not come-to-be, it cannot be younger or older; the One is timeless. Because the One is timeless, it cannot partake of being-hood. Because it does not partake of being-hood, the One in no way is. I fail to see how this conclusion differs from, for example, that of Zen Buddhism -- i.e., the "emptiness" (which is also "fullness") of Zen Buddhism. Whereas emptiness in Zen is arrived at through meditation (zazen), here it is arrived at through logic. However, Pierre (and, I assume, you) insists on adding "self" to the One, terming it the "One-Self" (which, I understand, is claimed to be a restoration of the original meaning). Is this intended to get someone to the realization that the self is as "empty" as the One? Is the project, then, to use Plato's Parmenides as an intellectual way of doing what Zen (again, for example) does through meditation? However, you say that "Pathologos are false beliefs about the Self that has [sic] been accepted as true. Discovering the reason for accepting the pathologos can also make understandable why the beliefs remain or persist." What, then, is an example of a false belief about the "Self'? If, as you say, the first hypothesis describes it, then it seems to me that a false belief about the Self can only be that it is not empty since, anything else, and we are in the realm of the personal "ego" of psychology (which you claim "does not come up to the idea of Self that Pierre is talking about"). Herein lies the confusion.

Peter A. Very thoughtful questions Peter, ones that came to me as well. He says the 3 parts make up the soul or psyche. And I conceptualize in his model the appetitive is the ego (not necessarily sure about that being correct). I think the most fundamental thing we can say by what he means of the Self is that it's the irreducible aspect of being. Whether that's the one God and non soul of the Buddhist or the one God and the individual soul being the same thing as in Hinduism. Brahman is the Atman.
@haveaniceday79505 жыл бұрын
Also you say as growth. Or a processes we could say. He does say that to continually question what is the Self. Maybe this is better than an already decided destination as in Buddhism.
