I agree with you very much. Because many violent prisoners are straight predatory and act like predators, and try to violate, extort and assault other inmates for whatever reason. The problem in prisons is mostly the violent inmates. So put the violent with the violent.

They are. I work for the state as a CO, we have five different custody levels based on your offense and behavior. G1-G3 tend to be stuff like drug charges or smuggling/extended good behavior with G4-G5 being the sex offenders and murderers with much more restricted housing. Adminstrative segregation is for the worst of the worst who can't be around even others of the same custody level. We feed all the custody levels separately and house them all separately.

It's like being thrown into another country, with completely another culture and rules of society. It's kind of scary, to be honest. I think that's what they call "culture shock" too, more or less.
