it's a love letter to the tv show, taking what they did but turned up to max. the show was pure camp, silly, weird, funny and captivating, the movie does the same.. but also does it's own thing than try to br s carbon copy as there is no way to capture the tv series today. Plus it's a great movie and opened the doors to DS to people who have never heard of it before.

I LOVED "Dark Shadows", and Johnny Depp was ASTOUNDINGLY GOOD!! I think people wanted more of a Jonathan Frid-like Barnabas, and missed the utterly delicious irony, sweet humanity, and subtle sarcasm with which Johnny Depp infused HIS Barnabas. He made an icon his own, which is SUPERLATIVE acting, but suicide at the box office. However, I totally agree with Johnny Depp's refusal to compromise his art. Whenever-and whatever he performs, he remains true to his vision of that character. And good for him!!
