Layne, I wish I could have met you. He had the greatest voice. His videos seemed kinda "dark" i guess you would say, but he was such a goofball. I wish he could have been here still to celebrate his 42nd birthday. I bet he would have still been adorable, even at 42. RIP Layne. I cant wait to meet you someday.

Layne was cool, funny and happy here. Great 2 see. Alice In Chain's were the best new rock band of the 1990's. They were under-rated. I'm a 1980's hair metal band fan, so Layne's jokes were fun for me! We all miss him,

This is not an easy thing for me to say, being both a true fan of AIC music and a chick, but: can you f**ing blame her?!? It would have been QUITE enough for him to be the smart, sensitive, funny guy he was, on top of that the most talented, charismatic and powerfull male vocalist this earth ever saw, but - go figure - he had to be this stunning man, who can make your head spin even from the grave, too. Well, yeah, you guys - that´s more than enough to make a woman look at him that way...

idk aboute kurt but layne was deffinetly not a jerk 0.0 he offered a place for jerry cantrell to live before even knowing the guy. he beat up a nazi in sweden to:P

Layne was SO MUCH MORE than his addiction. He met Jerry Cantrell ONE TIME, found out he had no family in the area, he had little money left and Layne (drunkenly) offered Jerry a place to live, he gave Jerry the guitars and gear he needed, Layne set Jerry up with a life. He set him up with a band when he gave Jerry the number to Sean Kinney's girlfriend and found out that the girlfriend was Mike Starr's sister. He encouraged Jerry to sing more because after all they were Jerry's lyrics, Jerry should sing them. I'm sure Jerry would have made it on his own without Layne, but it would have been the long scenic route to get there. Layne set Jerry up with a life that wouldn't fail unless Jerry let it happen. Jerry wrote Rooster about his father's experiences in Vietnam and when Jerry saw his dad in the audience at one of their shows, Jerry asked Layne (and the guys) to play Rooster and they did. It was the first time Jerry's dad heard Jerry's music and knew that his son understood him through that song. It brought Jerry and his dad closer together. And Layne had a vital hand in that reunion. (Meanwhile Layne's own biological father was an opportunist) When Rolling Stone screwed AIC over in 1996 by telling the band the article would be about them, but instead made it all about Layne. Layne fought back, he never wanted to make ANYTHING about himself. He always thought of the band as a unit. HE never wanted to be singled out. The article came out and he felt horrible for the guys and his family having to see that. No matter how deep he was into his heroin addiction, he always cared about his band, friends and family. He was soft spoken, but he had a sense of humor and wit that never left him even to the end.

Kurt was not an asshole! I read his biography too and rather think he was suffering from depression and drug abuse. I know what you mean (the 75% thing), but when Nirvana became big, things got outta hand, the situation was difficult for Kurt. Layne later was an "asshole", too and didn't open the door when his bandmates came around, sooooo. I wouldn't call them assholes, both genius with each a sad fate of its own.

Yeah they actually did. They made it famous if they didn't start it. So basically, they made grunge huge. Alice in Chains was mainly heavy metal, but stuck to their Seattle gringe roots, but proved to everyone that they are the hardest, heaviest, and darkest grunge band.

I don't know enough to say for sure one way or another, but wouldn't "Junkhead" from Dirt qualify as somewhat of a heroin glorifying song? I'd say most of what I know that Layne wrote regarding heroin can accurately be described as against it or as a warning about it, but that song's kind of the opposite with it's lyrics. lol Btw I love how this video ends with that guy XD like, that was a clip worthy of defining the sum of Layne's character as a human being. lol!
