Alice Waters is the FIRST woman to win the James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef. "When I was invited to New York to receive an award, out of 25 chefs, I was the only woman. We each presented a dish. All of the men had fancy French dishes-ice carvings, sautéed lobster. I had brought a salad. I will never forget how self-conscious I was. I kept saying, “I borrowed the bowl from James Beard, I made the vinaigrette, and these are the kinds of lettuces.”

Her story is good and she's achieved her goals. She worked hard all her life and broke the system and as her reward she gets to look back now and say I fought for my career and competed fully in the business place. Thats why I look back now and cry and wish I had born a child and brought life to this world. AWW hard work is so rewarding

for me taste is the most important. I don't care about 'creativity' (I don't need a deconstructed or transformed anything) , like they talk about on the TV Cooking shows (Chopped, MasterChef, Top Chef, etc). But also service is important to me, if there are competing restaurants in the area that offer a similar menu. I am going to go to the one that has better service. And i am not talking about a servers knowledge, or whether they make an honest mistake. I am talking about service people that are good with interacting with people. Where I live a lot of the servers have a a really bad attitude either they are rude or completely apathetic, so I stop going to those places. And these rude or apathetic servers just take for granted they will get 20% from all the customers, the public has become accustomed to just tipping the standard rate all the time regardless if the service is really bad.

People used to call me the other Martha stewart...nope I was the other Alice Waters...but they didn't know who Alice was...some still dont....she seems to always let the taste of the product lead..as it should be.

Phony Alice Waters, phony clientele, phony food. High prices, jaded service. Chez Panisse (phoney name) in Berkeley. The French chefs were spot on.
