I just wanted to comment the same. So conscious, so much elaborated and never self-repeating. When you'd think you know the trick, he comes with something new you never would've thought about. So much appreciate how his music is consciously balancing between dark, badass and uplifting

One of the ONLY guitarist I have ever seen live and played his recorded solo note for note to the album....I don't think anyone does this, probably because they can only play it that good once....Jerry plays it EVERYTIME not only because he remembers it , he plays it like that because it is a fucking masterpiece note for note....he knows it....

Jerry is a musical natural. He was born to create music. I, for one, am glad he kept going. I know Layne wanted that for him, and supported and loved Jerry's solo work. We have to let go of Layne and give him the respect he deserves. We also have to appreciate that Jerry, Mike, and Sean are still with us; healthy and passionate about what they have chosen to do for a living. Rock on, boys!

Yeah definitely, Alice In Chains got heavier with these last 3 albums. After Layne Staley died and they couldn’t rely on his voice, they went back towards the heavy melodic sound and stuck with it. I honestly don’t know if I like the new stuff vs the old stuff.

@ASquared007
@ASquared007 9 жыл бұрын
SaltpeterTaffy No. My goal is simply to express myself. Whether others like it or not, well that's a bonus. However, in order to survive solely in the Music Industry, you have to 'play the game.' Music is just an intellectual hobby for me. I already have a career. It's just something I've always wanted to do.
@SaltpeterTaffy
@SaltpeterTaffy 9 жыл бұрын
So for you, "keeping the listener engaged" is the meaning of self-expression. I don't feel that way, myself. That just means making catchy music to me.
@ASquared007
@ASquared007 9 жыл бұрын
SaltpeterTaffy No. Perhaps I'm not explaining enough. There is a formula for hit songs. Certain things that all of them have. If you want a hit, you have to use that formula. I have researched this extensively. If you google hit song formula (or similar) I'm sure you can find the same things I did. That is what makes a song 'catchy.' Music in the right hands can control human emotion. It's actually quite powerful and has ties to Psychology and Sociology. I don't want to make 'hits,' I want to make music that speaks to people on a large scale. That is my personal goal. I will make albums (like the older artists once did) and will not succumb to the BS the industry runs on (simply cranking out catchy, meaningless hits). I have a sketchbook full of ideas. I just need to flesh them out.

I mean come on, we all loved Layney and we all were sad wheb he passed away, but this band had the courage to born again and they are still a kickass band. DuVall has the enormous mission to fill the void that Layney left, but come on, he does it amazingly !
