I have wonderful memories of the young women at dance party's that were triggered by the way Alicia Bridges pronounced 'action'. There's absolutely nothing more precious than watching young women having fun to happy music!

I can't hear this song without remembering Disco Sally, this 70- or 80-year-old woman who was sometimes in the news in 1977-79 for being a denizen of New York discos like Studio 54. On one news segment about Studio 54, this song was playing while this bent-over old woman was being twirled around by some young man on the disco dance floor, and the association between song and image has never left my mind.

Classic disco! Ohhh to be a young man again! Rotating ball-lights overhead, Alicia Bridges and Donna Summer comin' through the loudspeakers, people sitting dressed soooo fine at their tables sipping drinks and watching those folks out on the floor! Dudes strutting their best in fitted suits and polished shoes, whirling fine ladies in their swishing too-short dresses and patent leather heels! Here's another from that era, though a bit late and I fear almost forgotten: Karla Bonoff singing her hit single, "Personally." Wait, here's one more: Nicolette Larson's classic, "Lotta' Love."

You claim to 'love' disco, but you played the radio edit of that song. Have you ever listened to the actual 'disco versions' of disco songs like 'Come into My Heart/Good Lovin'' by USA-EUROPEAN CONNECTION, or maybe 'There but for the Grace of God, Go I', by Machine? How about the classics from Voyage 'From East to West and Souvenirs'? I only ask because there is a tremendous difference in radio disco and actual disco music. Sure, you can hear the Village People's YMCA on the radio--but their more popular songs 'San Francisco/Hollywood Medley', 'Fire Island' and The Women/Cruisin' Medley' tell a different story. In the songs I have listed it is the MUSICAL breaks you are dancing toward. The lyrics--which are all that really appear on radio edits--are just there to get you to the different instruments in the breaks. I hope you will try it. I suggest you start with Claudja Berry's 'Boogie Woogie Dancin' Shoes' With earbuds and the volume cranked up, you will be mesmerized, and you will get a hint of what actually going to the discos in the `1970s was like.
