@@Nicholas_Chen_ Personally, I have my suspicion that Brett did not realize that that creature grew, by way of when he noticed and grabbed the shed skin of the creature. Brett was an assistant engineer, not a biologist nor so much so a scientist. And Brett's reaction to noticing and then grabbing that said shed alien skin was such that he certainly noted of it and regarded it, but that he also did not really truly know what to make of it, perhaps.

Just realised after watching this clip, and seeing the film so many times over the years. What an amazing cast Ridley put together. Probably one of the best casts ever.

The whole scene focusing on Brett is a masterclass of suspense. Even the cat meow sounds eerily creepy. We also had no idea the chestburster would molt upon first watch, so by the end of this scene seeing it has grown into a full adult xenomorph is a huge shock. The film plays so much on the fear of the unknown, watching it first time is such an experience, as you had no idea what to expect, how the xenomorph would evolve, and who would survive.

Fun fact: during this and other scenes, the actors had to work with the strong smell of spray paint, because Ridley Scott would spray the set down with black and then gold paint just before filming. That's what achieves the gold infused look of the set. If he had waited for the paint to dry, its colour would change. Nowadays it would all be done with digital grading

In my opinion, this segment and the one subsequent to it are the cruxes of the movie, in a sense. Either the monster was going to be potentially lame or it was going to be potentially captivating, interesting, and potentially awesome and maybe rad. This scene and the subsequent scene is either a maker or a breaker of the movie itself, in that sense. Fortunately, the monster turned out to be awesome, wicked, and quite killer, indeed; likely, one of the absolute greatest movie-monsters in all of cinema. Also, this scene and the subsequent one could have been duds, wherein there isn't really much of a point to them, if there was not a monster in it, altogether; but these scenes really made the movie, to a good share and extent.

Upon first watch we had no idea what the fully grown xenomorph would look like. This build up towards the reveal is indeed the crux of the movie. The reveal didn’t disappoint.

Alien 1979 upscaled to 4K from the Blu-ray version, with no DNR used. Edited and color graded in HDR and Dolby Vision. Although KZbin currently doesn't support Dolby Vision, the video is HDR compatible.
