Our very first attempt at Toy Cinema from 1998 for local community-access cable TV. Originally Filmed and Edited in-camera with a VHS camcorder. Later digitally re-edited. Primitive low budget special effects, but still has its charms.

@@probotanimation Not before, but when I first discovered KZbin. I was just roaming around in Alien videos and this particular, nostalgic video popped up in my recommendation; I didn't think much of it until I watched it, and I found myself watching almost everything every day.

Guys what happened to your sequel, it's been deleted. I have been following you since you made these on your website and I waited for years for part 3. You inspired me to make my own movie with my collection, but time it's a bit difficult. I even customized a lot of my Kenner figures to make them more movie accurate.

Yeah, sort of. This was my first attempt at “toy cinema.” We just started shooting with nothing more than a basic outline in our heads, telling the story visually. The only line we knew was going to be in the film was Ripley saying “the only good alien is a torched alien,” which was the quote on the cardback of the Kenner Lt. Ripley action figure, and so utterly ridiculous that we wrote the whole story around it. We shot the entire thing in sequence and essentially edited the first version in camera, just as a personal challenge. Then, after it was all shot, Sebastian wrote and recorded the dialogue and sampled sound effects and edited it all on an analog 4-track tape recorder. Then we made a VHS master tape marrying the video and audio onto a vcr. That was way back in 1998 and it took about six months to complete. Originally aired on local community access cable TV in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This version has been digitally re-edited, trimming a little of the fat to help speed up the pacing, which dragged a little more than this version, if you can believe that’s possible.

Yes, we most certainly did first distribute ALIEN 5 on VHS back in the last century. I don't have any left, other than the original, but I can send you a dvd copy if you'd like.

It was a variant from the Kenner line that I found in the Kay-Bee Toys clearance bin back in 1997 or '98.

Yes. Recorded on a VHS camera, shot in sequence, and initially edited in-camera. I have since tightened up the edit a bit digitally, but that's how we did it. This technique is not recommended.

The first time I posted this to KZbin there were size limits, so I had to cut the video into 4 parts at very low quality. So I re-digitized and re-edited the video for a higher quality, complete video.

I first uploaded both broken up into several parts, but now have them up full length. First is 20 minutes and the sequel is 30 minutes.

I agree. Of course it didn't exist in 1998. Toys have improved a lot in 20 years. It was a rather silly toy line, so we made a silly movie.

They're better in terms of accuracy, but for play i'll take the Kenner line any day. The Kenner figures were always durable and made for ease of play. Even NECA had to make some of the Kenner hybrids as a tribute.

Robert Taffoya neca didn't exist back in 1998 well at least didn't have the rights to the Alien franchise
