Alien Covenant: an overhated gem - my thoughts and review

I'm also a Covenant apologist but a couple things.. You don't remember the main character's name because she's not memorable. The captain, along with the rest of the crew, are unbelievably stupid. Whether it's taking off their helmets that allow them to be infected by the spores, or looking directly into the egg to become hit with a facehugger. Contrast this with the original Alien where everyone was highly intelligent and if they acted irrationally, it was out of fear or greed, not merely because the plot required them to. They were realistic and not merely horror movie characters. The writing is the #1 reason Covenant is hated, it didn't know whether to be a Prometheus sequel or a new Alien movie and it failed at both. Other than that, the gore, the Alien designs and the environments were really incredible. There's a great movie in there and like you said, that's the way the cookie crumbles. The fact that Romulus includes Prometheus in it shows the prequels are definitely part of the lore now. Whether David created the Alien or just reversed engineered it is something that is a mystery. I prefer it to be some ancient species the engineers brought back like Jurassic Park and realized how bad they f'd up.

@@bp-yo4nh I 100 percent agree. Ironically, I remembered her name was Daniels right after recording. These are also the dumbest people to ever grace the franchise, I even brought that up twice about the captain.

@@DeathTrooperReviews They make the spec ops team in Resurrection look like tactical geniuses. Lol. But I don't even remember the finer details of Covenant, I should rewatch it. Apparently, there is a highly coveted fan rework called the Chaos Edition that does a lot to right some of its wrongs. Unfortunately, it seems to be scrubbed from the internet. Worth looking into tho!

I thought the soundtrack was among the top three best. Story and writing was so so though.

@@koslisted9458 the soundtrack gave me chills every single time. It made the xenomorphs a lot scarier

My only gripe with the movie is that I don't like the characters except for David and Tallahassee.

@@LordJ-k2i yeah, most of the characters are kind of bland and forgettable. I did really like the character who got half his face burnt off by acid, shame he died.
