Has anyone considered that the planet that David and Elizabeth find isn't actually the Engineers home world? The civilization seemed small and centralized in one place, which would lead me to believe that this was a colony, much like what the Covenant crew were planning to build. This would explain how the crashed Juggernaut on LV426 appears to be piloted by an Engineer.

Also, David could have stored his eggs on all the Juggarnaught ships in order to get them spread across as many planets as possible.. That engineer on LV426 was probably in flight when the pathogen was released or maybe even in Stasis dtus surviving the attack, then later he probably jumped ship not realising that there were eggs on the ship... Totally agree though, all engineers couldnt have been wiped out, as that scene from Alien wouldnt make sense, if that happened..

@chris vandine Of course this people is not Engineers.. that is obvious even in their appearence which is more ....soft, less colossal and their planet looks nothing like the home of a highly developed race. This whole scenery , buldings, people and their cloths, looks like antique Rome . That's only another hybrid race created by the Engineers. IO think that it's the mlajor problem with prometheus and covenant: most people are too damn dumb to understand these movies because most of it you have to understand by watching the movie , there are no scenes meant to explain everything like you see in mlovies targeted to the average dumb ass . For real, each time I hear people shitting on these movies I quickly see that they did not understand 2 bits of it. I'm not saying that these movies are 2DEEP4U or anything, just that the narration isn't 100 explicit meaning that most people aren't used to deduce things by seeing them, instead they're used that everything is told to them . If it's not spoken, it's not there.

I reminds me of Aliens where I finally got to see the extended cut made it an even better movie it was not a lot but from what it was it made the movie flow better. Everyone's so disappointed by that revelation that they start nitpicking about everything that happened in the movie, as if Shaw was supposed to be the next Ripley yet that doesn't make sense considering these are prequels thus everyone is being absurd about it lol Once you piece together what David did to Shaw in order to pursue his research, her end makes more sense and the whole Alien franchise becomes so much more than just alien creatures that lay eggs and kill people. There's a bigger and darker theme behind all this...

In Alien Isolation there was an audio log you come across if you search for it and it's Dallas saying how he was wondering why his usual science officer was replaced which makes sense if the company knew about the alien and sent an android to make sure it was retrieved which changes the original around.

In terms of most of the bonus scenes, such as last supper, they should have actually been in the movie. These scenes are important, and nobody should have to get extremely important info from extras.

It's a shame the clips of James Franco's character weren't in the final cut of the film. It just seems like none of the couples in the film had much backstory or chemistry. Scott repeatedly had scenes reminding us they were together instead of giving them depth.

Joseph The Engineers from the opening scenes of Prometheus lived thousands, possibly millions of years before the Prometheus set sail. And the Engineer woken from stasis in Prometheus is possibly just as old. So the Engineers we see in Covenant are likely distant descendants of the pale, titan-like Engineers we know from Prometheus, descendants who have adapted not just to hundreds of generations of steady evolution, but also to the environment of the planet, which is clearly not their homeworld but more likely a colony.

Prometheus showed that the Engineers created all life on Earth, including humans, using the black goo and their own bodies. The substance isn't even alien to us. All the alien-ness has been drained out of the new films.

If you need to add so many prologues and scenes to explain what happened in the movie then you are not making the film or telling the story properly. I normally like bonus content and behind the scenes features, but a film shouldn't require it's audience to watch several long, extra bits to understand what happened in the movie they just watched.

@@danbello440 I'd have to agree about Scott making the story more about androids. It's very blatant. Honestly, I think the bigger problem is that he wanted to make a trilogy prequel. Scott could have just made Prometheus, and with some better scripting, have told the entire story and tied it right into the entry of Alien, with the Nostromo coming into view at the end, with maybe even a shot of the crew from the original as they wake up. All the critics that panned the movie complained that the alien really had little involvement in Prometheus, so Covenant was an attempt to correct that, and he did so at the expense of the engineers and the future of the third installment. And that is where David the android comes into play in taking the story over from there. Many missed opportunities by Scott, and I don't expect a third prequel movie to fix anything. Covenant made it worse, in my opinion. He'll tie it into Alien, sure, but not on the premise of the engineers but an android, and I don't think that sells the story. And that honestly takes all the last of the fun and mystery out of what could have been something truly exceptional.

ok wait too many movies are doing this and at this point it feels like "intellectual extortion" -they release a movie, cutting out bits that would make the story more complete, leaving you with a "i didn't get it" kind of feeling -then they release the ultra director cut megablurayofdeath edition including those parts, and most people will feel compelled to buy it, so they can finally get a sense of closure, and completeness from the experience fuck it, not going to the theater anymore, if this is the new trend, why bother?

​@Shockwave I'd like to note that there is a difference between being critical and being "toxic". In writing, film, and art in general there is such a thing as objectively poor material and objectively brilliant material. Admittedly, part of what makes the originals so amazing is the quality of writing, filmography, direction and effects for the time; you have to remember these films stood out among their contemporaries, raunchy comedies and otherwise campy horror and action films. What "the fanbase" that you dismiss as "toxic" is complaining about are the legitimate narrative problems and storytelling mistakes. It's the same sort of problem that the most recent star wars films have; plot holes, dim writing, and poor characterization that overall reduces the quality of the narrative and the film as a whole. Star Trek is in a similar situation, what once was a franchise centered on rationality, slow and careful consideration of actions and very little actual "action" has turned into the kind of "action romp" where every scene is a sequence of events specifically designed to distract the audience from the shallow and convoluted narrative taking place. Everyone is always hurrying somewhere, talking quickly and frantically, often with some kind of physical comedy, the scenes are just unfinished messes to cover up the plot holes and unexplained nonsense that is happening in the background. There is more comedy nonsense and explosions in a single JJ abrams take on Star trek than in all prior star trek films combined. (I may be wrong taking star trek 4 into account for comedic nonsense) Basically what I am saying here, is that the fanbase of all prior content for a franchise expects similar content to what they have seen. This is not to say it should be the "same" content, it should be new and new ideas should be explored and built upon, but ultimately the lore and the core tenants of the prior artwork should be respected. The argument that this is just subverting expectations, and that should be praised for some reason, is complete crap. It's like going out to eat and ordering a nice steak and some potatoes, but receiving a vegan soy dish with uncooked vegetables and a glass of blended wheat grass. Some people like the vegan dish, but the people who went in expecting their order of steak and potatoes is going to be sorely disappointed and quite rightly angry at the chef for getting the order wrong. I like the film for what is it, but I don't feel it's fair for anyone out here on the internet to dismiss criticism of the product just by calling critics "toxic". If they have points as to why, from a writing and storytelling perspective, a film is objectively "bad", why don't you spend some time proving that the film is objectively "good"? Just saying "your toxic" so your opinion doesn't matter is a pretty lame way to voice your piece on a subject, if anything the only "toxic" ideology is the one perpetuates dismissal of opinions rather than discourse over the merits and flaws of a piece of art like rational people.

I think all of the scenes help add details to the story though I know sometimes things are cut for time or could be considered too much exposition where viewers may feel like they're being spoon-fed the plot. I just want to see MORE of everything, I love this world and all of the lore!! I am most intrigued by David's transmissions, that is something I need to see! I am SUPER excited for the next chapter in this amazing story!!

So..Let me get this right: Alien is not so alien. Its mostly human after all. Engineers are also human anyways. One of the greatest mystery on cinema was the “space jockey” and what he was carriying. Just when we thought this whole thing was so “Alien” Ridley said: Its not alien, its all human. Basically He took this great alien vision from H.R.Giger and humanizing it with each new movie. Somebody stop him please!!!

Yes but the space jockey Giger visioned was a true bio-mechanoid. So was his ship. But then we were told that it was just a humanoid in a designer space suit. The whole idea was down played. Take a look at the original space jockey. Its huge. His chair doesnt even have enough room for his legs because he doesnt have legs. He was fused to his ship. Not meant to walk.

All life is an arrangement of DNA. The "alien" still have different DNA. Scott has created a real villain in the Alien series. As it was, these aliens were just mindless monsters for a horror movie. It wasn't sci-fi and it wasn't a story with a substantial villain. Scott has made David into a Satanic character and the Xenomorphs into demons. That's very much the kind of horror that Geiger would have approved of.

It’s annoying Ridley decided to focus more on David than the engineers. He’s just not that interesting. Alien fans want to know more about them. Having the film essentially say that David created the Xenomorphs is just lazy. After all these years of people wondering how they came about you’re telling me some salty android did it? Totally contradicts the first film. Never left the cinema so disappointed when I saw this. Having the Engineers make the alien makes more sense.

The problem I have with deleted scenes in the Alien movies is that they actually give way more context to the story. I don't understand why they always cut some of the most important scenes to make the movie shorter for some reason. It is really annoying that we have to see videos like this to get a better idea of what's going on in the universe of Alien. Ridley Scott needs to get with these editors and stop them from removing so much material that adds to the story.

Also i always think, with bluray technology these days, it should be possible to re-enter extended and deleted scenes WITHOUT completely re-editing the whole movie. they should be able to have a different sets of scene-intervals. like you pick the option for normal movie mode and you get the standard scenes and bluray scene selection version. then there should be another option that splices all deleted and extended scenes back into the movie via a different scene selection timeline. i dont know if anyone can follow my train of thought about how this could work on disc but i hope you get my idea... like the normal scene timeline for the standard version of the movie would be 1,2,3,4,5,.....etc. then the deleted and extended scenes would be accessible on their own through the menu but ALSO get scene selection designations like D1, D2, D3, D4, X1, X2, X3 and then the scene timeline for the spliced in version could be like 1,2,3,D1,4,X1,D2,5,6,X2,7....and so on.... in that way fans of the movie could choose to watch either the theatrical version or a directors cut (if existing) AND on top of that a FULL VERSION with ALL the scenes. normal, extended and deleted.

This exact thing, the ability to insert deleted scenes into the original "movie", was a feature on DVDs of the TV series "24", quite a while ago. Would work well for "Covenant" too, I believe.

Alot of bluray movies have those deleted scenes in them. Look at the lord of the ring movies each one on blue ray is almost 3 hiurs long because they have all the deleted scenes which make the movies make SO much more sense and add massive amounts of entertainment.

I wanted to see both prologues shown online in the beginning of Alien Covenant. Along with all of the deleted scenes shown on the Blu-Ray. I think it would have helped improve the story. I liked some things about the movie, but was disappointed in the lack of more back story with Shaw, David and the engineers.

The whole Advent scene should have been in the movie. while watching it the first time in cinema i felt like it had a good start and strong ending but the whole middle part didnt really work for me, it went to fast and didnt explain anything really well enough to get the connections or thoughts behind Davids doings right away. therefor the movie left more of a bad taste after first viewing (without the chance of watching it right again immediatly... ok i COULD have, but who pays again to see a movie they thought wasnt that good?!). so having the ADVENT scene in the movie would have made A LOT of plot threads and ideas in not only Covenant but also Prometheus and, like Jen mentioned, teases to the next movie, MUCH more transparent and intriguing.

Seeing as, if the first Engineer is anything to judge by, they don't look too fondly on Humans. So they're not likely to help in a Human vs Xeno situation. Then you have to have set it up so there were already a couple Xeno's before Humans and Engineers show up. Because a bunch of Xenos is far more threatening than one. Especially if that Xeno is going up against a group. That sort of set up takes time. I don't see Ridley tying this up in one movie. Just seems like a lot of info to try and convey.

I think I've finally hit on what is so deeply wrong with the two 'prequels'. Neither has a sympathetic human protagonist. Ripley arguably carries us through the first three movies of the franchise as the fierce, fragile, powerful female hero, who is driven by the essence of frustrated motherhood. There is no such character in the two recent movies; Shaw isn't fleshed out enough to be a compelling protagonist and I've tried to watch covenant twice just to fail part-way through because I couldn't care less for any of the characters. Instead, the two movies concentrate on bad bio-science and an unnecessarily pissed off android. There may be some convoluted storyline behind them but I really don't care. Why should I care a damn if a glorified automatic toaster builds a race of nasty monsters in a fake future to destroy a bunch of non-existent humans that I don't have any feelings for? It doesn't matter how ingenious or beautifully produced these films are, they're just badly written.

Any one remember a movie called 'Predator 2'? If you watch towards the end of the movie, you will see the skull of an Alien on the wall. And remember that this movie takes place in the 1990's. So there is no way that David could have created the Aliens, since the Predators have been hunting them for a long time. And in 'AvP', the Predators were sending their new warriors to hunt the Aliens in a structure that they had built to do this. So how did the Aliens show up in these movies if David is starting to create them? Looking forward to the answers on this one.

Imo the prequels were a mistake. They took away the appeal of the xenomorphs and sidelined the space jockey race. Weyland Yutani is an incredibly interesting corporation in its malevolence but one android with a god complex being the originator of the xenomorphs is an unsound decision and really does a terrible disservice to the lore. I personally wouldve much preferred the origin of the xenomoprphs to remain a mystery.

I had a bit of a mixed reaction when I saw this film. At first I was excited to see the potential evolution of the xenomorphs to where we eventually see them on LV426. On the other hand, it felt like there was way too much build up to an unsatisfying payoff that adds more plot holes that are purposely made in anticipation of a new movie. I can't say its a horrible movie, but its a far cry from a great one, and barely tolerable as a decent one (If that)

None of this have any sense... Aliens were already there, before prometheus, even before avp. And if david have had any succees, we should have seen it in alien 1, 2, 3 or 4... Next movie will probably show , in an improvised way, how david´s creations get destroyed or lost, and weyland yutani trying to restart and recover from scratch that creation, explaining why theres so much interest in preserving any alien specimen.... But as usual, have for sure that the next movie will be dissapointing. Anyway, these "explaining videos" never nail it on anything.

The AVP films aren't canon anymore (if they ever were). Ridley Scott has publicly disowned them while developing Prometheus. In fact, he refused to make any Alien Universe films while the AVP films were still being made because he hated them so much.
